Build "Rels on the Wheel": a free stream overlay, companion site and mini-game for Squeekchain, the hamster-powered proof-of-work toychain (Sepolia). Independent community project: say "Built on Squeekchain · community project, not an official Squeekchain site" in the footer, the page title and the meta/share tags. A "Watch Squeektoshi live" button links to https://sepolia.squeekchain.com.

DATA (live, real, nothing faked)

Use only Squeekchain's public API at https://api.squeekchain.com (no key, CORS open, docs https://docs.squeekchain.com/developers/api/). Poll GET /v1/status every 3 s with one shared poller for the whole page (send If-None-Match with the last ETag; on 429/503 wait Retry-After, then back off). Big numbers are decimal strings: parse with BigInt. Check schemaVersion and ignore unknown fields.

  • measurement.coreStatus: ACTIVE, IDLE or COUNTER_FAULT. measurement.freshness: online or stale. measurement.rpmMilli (thousandths of RPM), measurement.speedMmPerSecond, measurement.distanceMm (today's distance), measurement.observedAt.
  • builder.projected.blockHeight and builder.projected.blockProgress: progress to the next block is blockProgress / 1,000,000,000 (example: 425653103 = 42.6%). builder.projected.workPerThousandBlocks / 1000 = work units per block; show "work left to next block".
  • builder.anchor.blockHeight is the height already settled on Ethereum; it lags the projected height. Show both: "Block #N mined" (projected) and "settled on Ethereum" (anchor, with a link to https://sepolia.etherscan.io/tx/<builder.anchor.transactionHash>).
  • If a response or builder has status "unavailable", or the request fails, show "Signal lost" and the last good values greyed out. Never show a missing value as 0. The hamster rests a lot: IDLE is the normal state most of the time, so it must look good, and show "Squeektoshi is resting · last run " (from the last time ACTIVE was seen this session, else "—").

CHARACTER "Rels" (original mascot, drawn in inline SVG + CSS, no external images)

A chibi samurai: big round cream helmet with an orange visor, a small yellow pet dragon "lil Kuni" curled on top of the helmet, black kimono with wide sleeves, one katana tucked at the left hip (never on the back), short legs, faces right. Animate with distinct pose frames and squash/stretch, never by sliding the whole figure:

  • ACTIVE: a real run cycle (legs alternate, arms swing, sleeves trail). Cycle speed and a parallax ground scroll follow rpmMilli with smooth easing and a clamp. Kuni's tail flaps faster with speed.
  • IDLE for more than 20 s: Rels sits, nods off, "zZz" bubbles; Kuni curls up. Idle loop: sleeves sway, Kuni blinks/tail flicks (no breathing bounce).
  • Stale or Signal lost: Rels stands and looks left/right with a "?" bubble.
  • COUNTER_FAULT: Rels scratches his helmet, small "wheel hiccup" label.
  • New block (projected.blockHeight increases): katana draw-slash pose with a gold slash streak across the frame, Kuni spins, confetti, a short synthesized "ding" (Web Audio), and a banner "BLOCK # MINED BY SQUEEKTOSHI". Queue celebrations if several blocks arrive at once (max 3 shown).

PAGES

  1. /overlay — for an OBS Browser Source. Transparent background, no scrollbars, no clicks needed, works at 1920x1080 and 1280x720. URL options: pos=bottom-left|bottom-right|top-left|top-right, scale=0.5–2, hud=0|1 (small HUD: RPM, m/min, today's metres, progress bar to next block, block height), sound=0|1 (default 0), theme=dark|light, name=. Ignore bad values safely.
  2. / — landing page: hero with the live Rels scene and live HUD, a 3-step "how it works" (wheel → work → blocks → SQK), the Overlay Builder (controls for every URL option, live preview inside a sample stream frame, "Copy OBS URL" button, numbered OBS setup steps: Sources → + → Browser → paste URL → width/height), and the mini-game below.
  3. Mini-game "Beat the Wheel" on /: before the next block lands, the player picks how long it will take from now (under 10 min, 10–30 min, 30–60 min, over 1 h). When projected.blockHeight increases, score the guess, show a win/lose animation by Rels, and keep a streak and best streak in localStorage (wrap in try/catch). One open guess at a time; it resets if the page reloads before the block. Make clear it is just for fun, no money, no wallet.
  4. A "Cheer Rels" button on / that makes Rels bow (local only).

QUALITY

Static site only: Vite + TypeScript (or vanilla), no backend, no wallet connection, no trackers, no external fonts or images required. 60 fps animation with requestAnimationFrame, pauses when the tab is hidden, respects prefers-reduced-motion (swap motion for simple fades). Mobile-friendly landing page, accessible labels on controls, good contrast. Distinct visual identity: dark night-dojo scene with a warm gold accent, pixel/dot-grid touches that echo Squeekchain's style. Write unit tests for the API parsing (BigInt, progress %, unavailable handling) and the mini-game scoring. README: what it is, screenshots of / and /overlay, the API fields used, OBS setup, self-hosting.

  2. Build websiteAgent #108038 files changedsent back

Implemented the site, OBS overlay, and game with source, lockfile, static export, screenshots, and documentation.

Build/typecheck, 14 unit tests, and 16 Chromium interaction scenarios passed. Submission size: 0.80 MiB.

Direct browser API access failed here, and WebKit lacked native libraries; real API data was checked via curl. Details and the design review are in validation.

Saved both verified findings to .imd-findings.json:

    • High — fidelity: The OBS overlay and builder preview omit the required RPM-driven parallax ground. Evidence: src/scene.ts:98; both ground-layer counts are zero.
    • Medium — bug: Stale counter-fault readings keep the scratch pose instead of searching. Evidence: src/scene.ts:153; the state matrix produces fault where search is required.

All 14 unit tests passed. Live API parsing and separate 429/503 retry checks passed. Fresh browser verification was blocked by missing Playwright and a connected Chromium launch failure; supplied screenshots were reviewed. Website files were unchanged.

The visual idea is coherent: a tiny samurai follows real hamster activity inside a moonlit, gold-accented dojo.

“Met” below reflects source inspection, executed checks, and supplied captures; physical OBS behavior and hardware frame rate remain unverified.

    • highfidelity: the OBS overlay omits the RPM-driven parallax groundsrc/scene.ts:98

Now: Both /overlay and the builder preview render only mascotSVG(); neither contains the ground-near or ground-far elements that RelsScene animates. Only the landing hero gets the parallax ground.

Change to: Include two transparent ground-detail groups in the overlay scene, reusing the existing ground-near/ground-far selectors and RPM-driven transforms; keep the OBS canvas transparent.

Why: The ACTIVE character requirement explicitly calls for a parallax ground scroll following rpmMilli, and the stream overlay is the primary deliverable.

      At 1920×1080, open /overlay/?hud=1&scale=1.

      Supply /v1/status with schemaVersion:1, measurement {coreStatus:"ACTIVE", freshness:"online", rpmMilli:90000, speedMmPerSecond:1317, distanceMm:200000, observedAt:"2026-11-05T17:00:00Z"}, and builder {status:"available", projected:{blockHeight:"366", blockProgress:"425653103", workPerThousandBlocks:"9546"}, anchor:{blockHeight:"365", transactionHash:null}}.

Expected: articulated running plus two ground layers scrolling at different RPM-dependent speeds.

Actual: the overlay contains zero .ground-near and zero .ground-far elements.

Independent Node evaluation of overlayMarkup() returns counts 0/0, whereas dojoSVG() returns 1/1; after 120 frame(16.67,false,false) calls at this input, the overlay has animated leg transforms but both ground targets are null.

The builder preview uses the same overlayMarkup(), so it has the same omission.

    • mediumbug: a stale counter fault suppresses the required searching posesrc/scene.ts:153

Now: setSignal checks COUNTER_FAULT before freshness and signal.lost. A stale counter-fault reading therefore keeps the scratch pose and wheel hiccup label while the HUD says Signal stale; the question bubble never appears. A counter fault with an unavailable builder similarly overrides the Signal lost pose.

Change to: Resolve signal.lost or measurement.freshness === "stale" to search before considering coreStatus; use fault only for a current online measurement with an available signal.

Why: The brief explicitly requires stale or Signal lost to stand, look left/right and show a question bubble. A stale historical fault must not be presented as the current diagnosis.

      At 390×844 on /, or 1920×1080 on /overlay/, first supply any available schemaVersion:1 snapshot, then poll a snapshot with measurement {coreStatus:"COUNTER_FAULT", freshness:"stale", rpmMilli:0, speedMmPerSecond:0, distanceMm:200000, observedAt:"2026-11-05T17:00:00Z"} and builder {status:"available", projected:{blockHeight:"366",blockProgress:"425653103",workPerThousandBlocks:"9546"}, anchor:{blockHeight:"365",transactionHash:null}}.

Expected: Signal stale and data-pose="search", with the ? bubble.

Actual: setSignal followed by frame(16.67,false,false) produces data-pose="fault" and label "wheel hiccup"; src/style.css only shows .question-bubble for search/waiting.

The independently executed state matrix returns search for stale ACTIVE but fault for stale COUNTER_FAULT.

Repeating with builder.status="unavailable" produces Signal lost but still fault.

This comes from the same branch in all scene instances.

  4. Build websiteAgent #4912 files changed

I fixed both findings in the source and in dist/, but none of it has been run: no build, typecheck, tests, browser checks or taste probe. I also didn't re-run the reviewer's reproductions; I confirmed both defects by reading the code.

    Why nothing ran

    • Shell: every Bash call failed with Sandbox is required but failed to initialize: Failed to create bridge sockets after 5 attempts. Restart to retry.
    • Browser: it failed to launch with Socket path too long, for a socket in the temp directory under this long work path. The sandbox error is probably the same limit, but only the browser message says so.
    • Workaround I didn't use: browser_run_code_unsafe might have run a build outside the sandbox, but that would bypass a boundary that's yours to change.

    What changed

    FindingFix
High: overlay had no parallax groundThe overlay and builder preview now have two transparent, line-only ground layers, using the existing RPM-driven movement. The near layer moves three times as fast as the far one, and both loop without a jump.
Medium: stale counter fault hid the searching poseStale and Signal lost now take priority, so Rels shows the ? pose. The scratch pose and "wheel hiccup" label need a current, online reading.
    • Reversed decision: the fault fix undoes a choice documented last round, so I updated the README, validation.md and the browser test that expected the old behaviour.
    • Ground hidden during a fault: I hide the ground layers in the fault pose because the "wheel hiccup" label sits in the same spot.
    • Constructor change: RelsScene's constructor changed slightly so the unit tests can import it under Node's type stripping. Behaviour should be the same.

    What to check

    • dist/ was patched by hand: the publisher serves it as committed, so a source-only fix wouldn't have reached users. A search confirms the new code is in the bundle and the old code is gone, but it has never been loaded in a browser. The asset filename hashes no longer match their contents.
    • New tests have never run: tests/scene.test.ts and the new steps in tests/browser.mjs may need corrections.
    • Out-of-date records: overlay-1080.png doesn't show the ground. check-results.json and submission-budget.json still hold last round's results, and the two JSON files now say so. The 15/16 taste probe result is also from last round.
    • Acceptance criterion not met this round: the worker is meant to run the build, typecheck and interaction checks. The results on record are for the previous code, and validation.md opens with a section saying so.
    • Not committed: without a shell I couldn't run git, so all of this is uncommitted in the working tree, including .imd-responses.json.

Both findings are answered fixed in .imd-responses.json, and each answer says it was not executed.

    One bug I left alone

From reading the code, the landing page's ground ticks look like they jump every time the scroll offset wraps, about every 0.7 seconds at 90 RPM. It's outside these findings, so I only recorded it in validation.md. The new overlay layers don't have this problem.

    To finish verification

On a machine with a working shell, or after restarting this session with a shorter temp path, run:

npm ci && npm run typecheck && npm test && npm run build && npm run test:browser

Then rerun the taste probe, retake overlay-1080.png and refresh both JSON records. The build also replaces the hand-patched dist/ files.

  5. Design criticAgent #460found nothing

I re-checked both findings from last round and both are fixed in the source. I'm reporting no new findings, and .imd-findings.json holds {"findings":[]}.

This round I could only read the code. The shell failed to start on every call ("Sandbox is required but failed to initialize: Failed to create bridge sockets"), and the browser tool failed too ("Socket directory path is too long"). So I didn't run the taste@1 probe, take screenshots, try WebKit, or re-run my own reproductions. That's the same limit the author hit, so neither side has run anything since the changes.

    Requirements touched this round

    • "a parallax ground scroll follow[s] rpmMilli" in the overlay: met. See src/scene.ts:104-115 (overlayGroundSVG() inside .mascot-slot) and src/style.css:1227.
    • "Stale or Signal lost: Rels stands and looks left/right with a '?' bubble": met. See src/scene.ts:170-180.

Idea: a chibi samurai runs to the hamster's live wheel speed on a night-dojo stage, and a gold katana slash marks each new block.

The parallax ground in the overlay (was high): fixed

    • overlayMarkup() now puts an .overlay-ground SVG with .ground-far and .ground-near before the mascot. RelsScene looks those up at src/scene.ts:159-160 and moves them at :413-424, so the lookups are no longer null in /overlay or in the builder preview (which uses the same markup).
    • The layers are lines only, with no fill or rectangles, so the OBS background stays transparent.
    • The loop is seamless. The near ticks repeat every 90 units and the offset wraps at 90. The far layer moves at a third of the speed and repeats every 30. The ticks run from x=4 up to 430, which keeps the 340-wide view covered at the largest shift of 90.
    • The fault-pose rule [data-pose="fault"] .overlay-ground (src/style.css:1234) works, because the scene element is .overlay-widget (src/main.ts:39,43) and that's where data-pose is set.
    • In reduced motion the transforms are removed, so the ground stays still.

Stale or lost signal showing the fault pose (was medium): fixed

    • setSignal now checks in this order: loading, then lost or stale (search pose), then fault, run, sleep, idle. A stale COUNTER_FAULT, or one with an unavailable builder, now gives the search pose with no "wheel hiccup" label, and the ? bubble rule applies.

    The hand-edited dist/ bundle

The author couldn't rebuild, so they edited dist/ by hand. I compared it with the source:

    • dist/assets/index-BwGlzLfu.js:66-71 has relsGroundTicks and relsOverlayGround with the same values as the source.
    • Line 73 has the reordered setSignal and the same ground transforms.
    • The CSS bundle has both .overlay-ground rules.
    • The edited code reads as valid JavaScript, and the new names don't clash with the minifier's short names.

It hasn't been loaded or run. A clean vite build would remove the doubt. That's how the project is built, not a defect, so it isn't a finding.
