Build THE IMD DAILY, an English newspaper website for this job's deployed Ethereum contracts. Publish at a new HTTPS IMD URL; prefer the-imd-daily if available. Never modify UNLOCK sites, redeploy contracts or create tokens. Publish all source to GitHub.

Deployment block 26239377.

DESIGN: An editorial newspaper, not an AI-template landing page. Black outer frame, warm ivory reading surface, oversized serif masthead, compact date/edition line, thin ink rules and asymmetric newspaper columns. Restrained burgundy accents; serif headlines, readable body text. The latest newspaper cover dominates; archive resembles stacked print editions. No gradients, glow, glass cards, rounded-card grids, emoji icons, stock photos, giant marketing slogans or excessive whitespace. Design desktop AND mobile deliberately. Reading comes first; Collect is secondary. Free reading/downloads without wallet; closed editions remain readable. Include issue permalinks, About and My Collection.

READER: Full-page, multi-page PDF.js viewer with bundled worker, zoom, fullscreen, page navigation, vertical reading, mobile pinch zoom and download. Lazy-render pages. Preserve original PDF colors, aspect ratio and text. Support 50 MB+ raster PDFs, A3 portrait and multiple pages; test fixtures must not become real news. First-page cover generation. Search titles/summaries/dates, not nonexistent text in scanned PDFs. Honest empty archive; no fake issues/numbers.

MINT: Read actual price, availability, deadlines and supply from contracts. Each issue costs exactly 0.1 IMD per copy, mintable for 24 hours from its publication transaction. Unlimited copies/wallet during that window; allow quantity and repeat purchases. Show total IMD, gas separately, exact-amount approval then mint, pending/confirmed/error states and explorer receipts. Honor mint deadline argument. Do not use floating-point token arithmetic. No ETH mint payment. Handle wrong network, rejection, balance/allowance, receiver reverts and expiry between quote and execution. Show minted count, countdown and Closed after expiry. Never reopen a window. Explain collectible support, no copyright ownership or promised returns.

PUBLISHER: Only the authority wallet can authenticate for uploads. Dashboard: upload PDF, enter title/date/summary, generate cover/metadata, preview reader, explicitly confirm publication onchain. Upload and verify public URLs and SHA-256 commitments BEFORE createIssue; uploading a draft must not start minting. Keep published files immutable and recover pending transactions after reload without duplicate publication. Publishing daily must not require another swarm payment or site rebuild. Index chain events with pagination/RPC limits and recoverable state. Show real NFT balances/supply and stale/error states.

VAULT: Public collected revenue, withdrawals and actual IMD balance; donations distinguished using contract accounting. Publisher-only partial withdrawal UI to the contract's fixed recipient, with review, simulation and receipt. No automatic withdrawal or owner transactions.

HOSTING SCOPE: Host the static frontend on IMD. Deliver PDF upload/storage service SOURCE CODE for my VPS, with Docker Compose, persistent volumes, env.example and exact installation instructions. IMD need not access or operate my VPS. No paid domain/pinning required; document free-subdomain HTTPS configuration, CORS, configurable API/file origins, health checks and backups/restore. Preserve file paths/hashes on migration. Never claim backend deployed until it is. Unconfigured publishing must show an honest setup state, not break the public site. Document endpoint setup; test locally without production credentials.

SECURITY/DELIVERY: Server-verify wallet challenges, origin/chain, nonce and expiry; authorize publisher for every upload. No private keys/secrets in frontend. Validate PDF type/size, sanitize summaries, isolate PDF rendering, block path traversal, use immutable hash-based objects and byte-range serving. Rate-limit and test replay/unauthorized uploads. Test mobile reading, large PDFs, archive, exact mint expiry, approval/payment failures and reload recovery on local/fork environments; no real-fund test purchases or real issue publication. Deliver site URL, commit, tests, browser evidence and VPS setup guide. Distinguish static-site delivery from remaining VPS setup; do not block delivery waiting for my PDFs or server access.

    • highbug: zoomed PDF pages lose an unreachable strip along the left edgeweb/src/styles.css:194

Now: The horizontally scrollable flex column centers pages even when they are wider than the viewport, placing their left side at a negative, unreachable scroll position.

Change to: Use safe horizontal centering, or start alignment with auto inline margins on each page, so oversized pages begin at the scroll origin and both edges remain reachable.

Why: The brief requires zoom, mobile reading and preservation of the complete original PDF.

390×844 Chromium: Open a local four-page A3 portrait PDF through #/read/2 and press Zoom in three times (200%).

Set .reader-pages.scrollLeft to -9999, or drag as far left as possible.

Actual: scrollLeft clamps to 0 while each .pdf-page is 732px wide and starts at x=-171px; the left 171px, including the fixture red edge marker and text, can never be viewed.

At 1440×900 the same test loses 280px of a 2000px-wide page.

Expected: horizontal panning reaches x=0 of the PDF.

      Confirmed in browser screenshot.

Repeated in WebKit at 390×844: the same 732px page starts at x=-171 with scrollLeft=0.

    • highbug: the Vault accounting table overflows narrow screensweb/src/pages/VaultPage.tsx:44

Now: The mobile table includes unbreakable implementation names such as IMDDailyVault.totalWithdrawn; its intrinsic width exceeds the ivory reading column.

Change to: Remove the third implementation-name column from this public table and keep the reader-facing labels and IMD amounts, allowing those two columns to wrap within the available width.

Why: The brief requires a deliberate mobile layout; critical accounting must remain readable without page-wide horizontal scrolling.

390×844 and 320×844 Chromium: Open #/vault and wait for accounting to load.

With collected=0.3 IMD, withdrawn=0.1 IMD and balance=10000 IMD supplied by a local read-only RPC fixture, the table measures 437px and ends at x=457.23; document.scrollWidth=457 versus clientWidth=390 (also 457 versus 320).

The third column spills past the ivory paper onto black.

Expected: page width equals viewport width.

This follows from the fixed source labels, not unusually long fixture news.

Repeated in WebKit: document width is 453px at both mobile widths.

    • highbug: the supplied HTTPS proxy configuration cannot start Caddyserver/Caddyfile:7

Now: The encode directive contains a response matcher named "not" with a request-path expression, which Caddy rejects before the service can start.

Change to: Remove the encode block, or move the /files/* exclusion into a valid named request matcher and apply encode gzip only to that matcher.

Why: The brief requires working Docker Compose installation and free-subdomain HTTPS; the supplied setup currently cannot expose either the upload API or immutable files.

Browser width: not applicable (deployment setup).

Download the official Caddy v2.10.2 Linux binary and run FILES_DOMAIN=files.example caddy validate --config server/Caddyfile --adapter caddyfile.

Actual: exit 1, "parsing caddyfile tokens for 'encode': unrecognized response matcher not, at server/Caddyfile:7".

The same file is mounted into the caddy:2-alpine service by server/docker-compose.yml, so following docs/VPS_SETUP.md step 6 leaves the HTTPS proxy unable to start.

Expected: configuration validation and service startup succeed without VPS credentials.

    • highbug: the documented restore command fails in the supplied Alpine image and reports successserver/restore.sh:6

Now: restore.sh passes GNU tar's --skip-old-files to BusyBox tar in node:24-alpine. BusyBox rejects it, skips extraction and hash checks, then the trailing echo prints "restored" and returns success.

Change to: Use the installed tar's supported keep-existing option (-k), and make extraction or hash mismatches stop the command with a nonzero exit; print success only after all objects have been checked.

Why: The brief requires a usable backup/restore guide and preservation of published file paths and hashes on migration.

      Width: not applicable (VPS restore).

Use the supplied node:24-alpine/BusyBox environment and follow docs/VPS_SETUP.md: ./restore.sh backups/.tar.gz with a valid archive containing objects/.

BusyBox v1.37.0 reports "tar: unrecognized option: skip-old-files" and extracts nothing.

Independently reproduced with the official Alpine 3.22.6 rootfs BusyBox against a valid local fixture archive: exit 1 and empty restore directory.

The script's shell expression ends with "; echo restored", so the Docker command masks that failure and reports success.

Expected: files restored to their original object paths, hashes checked, and failures propagated.

    • mediumbug: issue and reader routes describe an RPC outage as an empty contractweb/src/pages/IssuePage.tsx:10

Now: IssuePage and ReadPage handle loading but not the shared error state, then infer that an empty issues array means the requested issue does not exist.

Change to: Handle status === "error" before the missing-issue branch on both routes, showing "The edition could not be checked. Try again." and the existing reload action; show nonexistence only after a successful read.

Why: A failed read must state only what the app knows and provide recovery; the brief explicitly asks for error and stale states.

390×844 Chromium: In a fresh browser context, return HTTP 503 for both configured Ethereum RPC origins and open #/issue/1.

After retries settle, actual text is "No issue 1 on chain" and "The contract has 0 published issues", with no retry. #/read/1 similarly says "No issue 1 on chain".

Expected: a chain-read error and retry because no successful issueCount response was received.

The homepage correctly shows an archive-read error under the same condition.

    • mediumbug: PDF page navigation stops advancing at reading zoomweb/src/components/Reader.tsx:147

Now: The current-page state depends on an IntersectionObserver threshold of 0.5 of the entire PDF page. At 200% zoom a page cannot reach that fraction of visibility, so scrolling to page 2 leaves page state at 1 and every subsequent Next click targets page 2 again.

Change to: Set page/pageInput explicitly when navigating and track scrolling by the page nearest the viewport top, using an observation region or visibility calculation that works for oversized pages.

Why: The brief requires page navigation together with zoom and vertical multi-page reading.

      390×844 Chromium: Open a local four-page A3 portrait PDF at #/read/2.

At 100%, Next advances page input to 2 and then 3.

Return to page 1, press Zoom in three times to 200%, and press Next three times.

Actual: first click scrolls .reader-pages to 1059px and places PDF page 2 at y=123, but page input remains 1, Previous stays disabled, and the next two clicks leave scrollTop=1059 instead of advancing to page 3.

At this zoom pages are 732×1035px inside a 390×695px viewport, so their visible area cannot reach 50%.

Expected: page input 2 then 3 then 4, with Previous enabled.

Repeated in WebKit at 390×844: page 2 is visible but the input remains 1 and scrollTop remains 1059.

    • mediumbug: editing a prepared edition still publishes the earlier title and dateweb/src/pages/Publisher.tsx:249

Now: Title, date and summary remain editable after preparation, but their change handlers do not invalidate prepared. The final button sends prepared.content and the previously uploaded metadata instead of the values displayed in the form.

Change to: Clear prepared and confirm whenever title, date or summary changes, requiring Upload and verify files again before publication; show the final title/date/summary in the confirmation.

Why: Publication is immutable. The publisher must explicitly confirm the edition they have just reviewed, with matching metadata and summary.

1440×900 Chromium, local mock wallet/API/RPC only: Sign in on Publisher desk, choose a valid four-page A3 fixture, enter title "Title A before upload", date 2026-10-21 and summary A; click Upload and verify files and wait for all six checks to finish.

Change title to "Title B reviewed for publication", date to 2026-10-20 and summary B.

Tick confirmation and click Publish No. 3 on Ethereum.

Actual: decoding the createIssue simulation and the transaction request yields title "Title A before upload" and editorialDate 1792540800 (2026-10-21), while the visible fields show title B and 2026-10-20.

The metadata and saved summary also remain A.

The test wallet rejected the request, so nothing was broadcast.

Expected: edits disable publication until matching files are prepared again.

    • mediumbug: publication recovery discards the pending record before publishing its summaryweb/src/pages/Publisher.tsx:105

Now: Normal publication calls service.markPublished after confirmation, making the saved draft summary visible through /api/summaries. Both recovery-success branches only clear localStorage and reload; they never finish that service update. The normal path also silently ignores markPublished failures.

Change to: Preserve a recoverable service-finalization record until markPublished succeeds, and retry it after publisher authentication on reload; expose a retryable error when the service update fails.

Why: The brief requires reload recovery and title/summary/date search. A successfully recovered issue must retain its prepared public summary and searchability.

390×844 Chromium, local fixtures: Save a service draft with a unique summary, start its createIssue publication, then reload after the transaction has been submitted but before service.markPublished runs.

Let the local RPC return that same PDF hash as published.

In the reproduced recovery state, the desk says "Published as No. 2", the pending localStorage key becomes null, and zero requests are made to /api/drafts//published. server/src/app.mjs only includes drafts with publishedIssueId in /api/summaries, so the saved summary remains absent and its unique term cannot be found in the archive.

Reloading again has no record left to retry.

Expected: recover the chain receipt and finish/retry the service update before discarding recovery state.

Unreachable PDF left edgeFixed in Chromium and WebKit at 390/1440px. At 200%, left edge starts at 12px; both edges are reachable.
Vault mobile overflowFixed in both browsers: document widths equal 320/390px viewports.
Invalid Caddy configurationOfficial Caddy 2.10.2 validation exits 0.
Restore failure reported as successFive BusyBox tar regression cases pass, including extraction and hash failures.
RPC outage shown as nonexistent issueBoth routes show the error and recover through Retry in both browsers.
Next stalls at reading zoomBoth browsers advance 1→2→3→4 at 200%.
Edited preparation publishes earlier metadataEdits invalidate preparation; decoded fixture transaction matches the reviewed title/date and saved summary.
Recovery loses summary finalizationRecord survives errors/reload and clears after successful finalization; normal recovery submits one fixture transaction.

Validation also passed 12 frontend tests, 14 service tests, ABI hashes and production build. All 17 rebuilt export files match the committed export byte for byte. A 52,921,453-byte, four-page A3 raster fixture rendered and downloaded in both browsers. Physical-device pinch and Docker/VPS deployment were not exercised.

The visual idea is a newspaper reading surface: warm ivory paper, serif hierarchy and ink rules inside a black frame.

“Met” below means supported by repository or local verification; deployment remains separate.
