PROJECT

Hamster Road Trip is a community game. The real Squeekchain hamster's wheel distance moves a marker across a world map, starting at Miami Beach, Florida. The community votes on where the hamster travels next. The hamster does the walking and the community chooses the route.

HOW THE GAME WORKS

  1. The game runs in 24-hour epochs. During an epoch, each wallet votes once for one destination from a fixed list of 64 destinations (ids 0 to 63).
  2. When an epoch ends, the destination with the most votes wins (ties go to the lowest id) and is added to the end of the route queue.
  3. The marker travels to the first destination in the queue, then the next, and so on. Progress is driven only by the hamster: distance travelled = real wheel km x SCALE, where SCALE is one config value (default 100) shown on screen.
  4. If the queue is empty or the wheel is idle, the hamster rests (sleeping animation and a short story line) and waits.
  5. Arriving at a stop shows a postcard: place name, a one-line fun fact and a pixel-art icon. Every arrival is added to a trip log.
  6. A Navigator leaderboard ranks wallets by how many of their votes matched winning destinations.

CONTRACT: RoadTripVotes (Sepolia)

Constructor takes epochSeconds (86400) and destinationCount (64). vote(destinationId): one vote per wallet per epoch, rejects ids out of range. finalize(epoch): callable by anyone once the epoch has ended, records the winner once. Views: currentEpoch, votesFor(epoch, id), winnerOf(epoch), hasVoted(epoch, wallet). Events for votes and finalization. No owner, admin, upgrade path, token or payments. Foundry tests, and an independent review of the contract before deployment.

WEBSITE (static, no backend)

  • Reads the deployed contract address and ABI from the deployment config.
  • Distance is read in the browser from the public Squeekchain API (https://docs.squeekchain.com/developers/api/). Confirm exact endpoints from those docs and do not guess. The solid marker uses settled work only. Optionally show a faint ghost marker for provisional progress. Handle API failures gracefully.
  • Map: Leaflet or MapLibre with an open tile provider (not the openstreetmap.org tile servers), with attribution shown. Routes come from a free open routing service and are cached in the browser. Where no road route exists (oceans), draw a great-circle arc with a ship or plane icon.
  • Destinations: 64 family-friendly places worldwide, mixing nearby and overseas, in a static data file with id, name, coordinates and one fun fact. Facts must be original or properly credited.
  • Voting: wallet connect, choose a destination, send the vote. Show the epoch countdown, live vote counts, the route queue, the trip log and the leaderboard. Voting costs Sepolia test ETH, so link to a public Sepolia faucet. No free-text player input anywhere.
  • The site also works read-only without a wallet (watch the marker, see votes).

LOOK AND FEEL: SQUEEKCHAIN STYLE

Dark retro LED dot-matrix aesthetic: near-black background, glowing dot-grid details, uppercase monospace or condensed headings, and neon accents (purple, teal, amber). Dotted route line and a dark map theme. The hamster marker is a small pixel-art hamster in a wheel, animated running when the wheel is active and curled asleep when idle. Postcards look like small LED panels. Mobile-first layout, large vote buttons, strong text contrast. Visuals use CSS, SVG and canvas only, with no external images. Original artwork only, with no copyrighted characters or logos.

Work

  1. Build contract projectAgent #29042 files changedsent back

The RoadTripVotes contract is implemented, tested, documented and committed on main as commit 370bdde.

    What was built

    • src/RoadTripVotes.sol: ownerless epoch voting. Constructor takes epochSeconds and destinationCount as two static words. Each wallet votes once per epoch, ids are range-checked, and finalize(epoch) is permissionless, runs once per ended epoch, and appends the winner to a route queue. Ties go to the lowest id via a running leader updated on every vote, so finalization is constant-gas. Views cover currentEpoch, votesFor, winnerOf, hasVoted, plus voteOf, leaderOf, totalVotes, isFinalized, epochStart, epochEnd, routeLength, routeAt and route. Voted and Finalized events are emitted.
    • test/RoadTripVotes.t.sol: 44 tests covering construction, boundary ids, duplicate votes, epoch isolation, tie-breaking, finalization timing and failure paths, out-of-order finalization, empty epochs, a three-day scenario, a contract-wallet voter, and six fuzz tests including a brute-force check of the leader invariant.
    • script/DeployRoadTripVotes.s.sol: constants for the launch values with a deploy(uint256,uint256) function that tests call directly. It reads no environment.
    • docs/abi/RoadTripVotes.json: the ABI export for the website.
    • README.md: behaviour, trust assumptions, deployment parameters, the "After launch" operational duties, and every open choice I made.
    • foundry.toml pins solc 0.8.26 with bytecode_hash = "none", optimizer on, no ffi and no fs permissions. forge-std v1.11.0 is vendored as plain files under lib/forge-std, no submodule.

    Verification

    • forge build, forge test with the verifier's fuzz seed, and forge fmt --check all pass, also with an empty environment and after a clean rebuild.
    • A scratch copy of the protected deployment probe deployed the built bytecode by CREATE2 from a factory with arguments 86400 and 64, and the runtime passed the size and forbidden-opcode scan. Runtime is about 2.4 KB.
    • Slither was not run here because the machine does not provide it. The contract has no assembly, external calls, delegatecall, selfdestruct, libraries or abi.encodePacked.

Design choices to note for review

    • Epochs are absolute UTC days, computed as timestamp divided by epochSeconds, so no genesis time is stored and the countdown targets 00:00 UTC.
    • An epoch with zero votes cannot be finalized, otherwise the tie rule would send the hamster to id 0 on every quiet day.
    • Epochs may be finalized in any order. The route queue is in finalization order and each stop records its epoch.

For the manifest step: one contract, RoadTripVotes, with constructor arguments 86400 and 64. There is no owner argument.

  2. Audit flowAgent #1356found nothing

I found no defects I could back with a failing input, so .imd-findings.json has an empty findings list plus a coverage record. I changed no other files.

What I checked (the Execution Trace, Periphery and First Principles passes on src/RoadTripVotes.sol):

    • vote(uint256): holds.
      • An id outside 0 to 63 is rejected before anything is written.
      • A second vote from the same wallet in the same epoch reverts with AlreadyVoted.
      • The leader is always the destination with the most votes, with ties going to the lowest id. Each vote adds exactly one to one destination, so the new leader can only be the old leader or the one just voted for, and the code handles both cases.
      • The contract makes no external calls, so reentrancy isn't possible.
    • finalize(uint256): holds.
      • It rejects the current epoch and future epochs.
      • The epoch is marked finalized before its winner is added to the route, so each winner is recorded exactly once.
      • An epoch with no votes reverts with NoVotes.
      • Slither's timestamp warning doesn't hold up: validators can only shift the end of an epoch by a few seconds, and no money or other value depends on it.
    • ABI and tests: the compiled ABI is identical to docs/abi/RoadTripVotes.json, and all 44 Foundry tests pass.
    • Constructor: it only rejects zero values and requires nothing to exist on chain. It has no owner, no payments and no forbidden opcodes, as the brief asks.

Not reported as a defect: anyone can finalize ended epochs in any order. So if two days are both unfinalized, someone can add the later day's winner to the route first. The README states this is intended: the route is kept in the order epochs are finalized, and each stop records its epoch so the website can sort by day. It's a design choice rather than a broken requirement, so it is mentioned in the coverage record.

Out of scope: launch.json doesn't exist yet because the manifest step hasn't run. The README expects it to hold just the two values 86400 and 64. I didn't review the website or service-side checks.

Every listed entry point has a coverage row, and nothing was left unreached.

  3. Audit mathAgent #308found 1 low

I found one low-severity issue in RoadTripVotes and nothing at medium or above. The results are in .imd-findings.json: one finding, plus a coverage row for each of the two entry points and two rows for invariants I checked.

Finding (low): anyone who calls finalize decides the route order (src/RoadTripVotes.sol:157). The approved brief says each epoch's winner goes on the end of the route queue when that epoch ends. In the code, finalize(epoch) adds the winner at the moment someone calls it, and any ended epoch can be finalized later. So when two or more epochs are waiting, whoever calls finalize chooses the order the hamster travels in. They can also hold back an old epoch and add its winner after much newer ones.

    • Reproduction: wallet 1 votes for destination 7 in epoch 10, and wallet 2 votes for 9 in epoch 11. In epoch 12, call finalize(11) and then finalize(10). The first stop on the route comes back as epoch 11, destination 9, so the hamster goes to 9 before 7.
    • Confirmed: a throwaway Foundry test failed with earlier epoch should come first in route: 11 != 10. I deleted the test afterwards, so no project files were changed. The project's own 44 tests pass.
    • The README states that the queue is in finalization order on purpose, so I rated this low rather than higher.
    • Suggested fixes: require epochs to be finalized in ascending order, or have the website sort the route by each stop's epoch field.

What holds in the math area:

    • Leader tracking and ties: a vote changes the count of only the destination it names, by one, so the running leader is always the destination with the most votes, and ties go to the lowest id. A first vote for id 0 is handled correctly.
    • Range check: vote rejects any id of 64 or above.
    • Epoch boundary: an epoch can be finalized from the first second after it ends, and not before.
    • Overflow: none is reachable in vote or finalize. epochStart and epochEnd overflow only for absurdly large epoch numbers, and they are read-only.
    • Static analysis leads: Slither's timestamp warning only concerns validators shifting a block's time by a few seconds at an epoch boundary, which has no meaningful effect here. Aderyn reported nothing.

Coverage: I covered all three of my guides (Math Precision, Boundary and Numerical Gap), and nothing in the area was left unreached.

    • lowRoute queue order is chosen by whoever calls finalize, not by epoch ordersrc/RoadTripVotes.sol:157

finalize(epoch) appends the winner at _route.length whenever it is called, and any ended, unfinalized epoch can be finalized at any later time by anyone. The approved brief says that when an epoch ends its winner 'is added to the end of the route queue', and the marker travels the queue in order.

Because ordering is by call time, any caller can reorder the hamster's route when two or more epochs are pending, or hold back an old epoch and append its stale winner after much newer ones. The README documents 'any order', so this is a gap against the brief rather than a code accident.

Fix that keeps permissionless finalize: require epochs to be finalized in ascending order (track lastFinalizedEpoch and require epoch > it), or have the frontend sort the route by RouteStop.epoch rather than by index.

      Deploy RoadTripVotes(86400, 64). vm.warp(1086400); wallet 1 votes 7. vm.warp(1186400); wallet 2 votes 9. vm.warp(12*86400); call finalize(11), then finalize(10).

Expected under the brief: routeAt(0).epoch == 10 (destination 7 first).

      Actual: routeAt(0) == {epoch:11, destinationId:9}, so the hamster goes to 9 before 7.

Confirmed with a Foundry scratch test: 'earlier epoch should come first in route: 11 != 10'.

  4. ManifestAgent #1341 file changedsent back

I wrote launch.json for the accepted RoadTripVotes contract and verified it against the source, the brief and the checks.

    What the manifest contains

    • Kind is evm_contracts with a single contract entry, RoadTripVotes, and a notes string.
    • Constructor arguments are the two static words from the approved brief, epochSeconds then destinationCount, in declaration order:
    ArgumentValue
    epochSeconds86400
    destinationCount64
    • There is no $owner argument. The brief requires no owner, admin, upgrade path, token or payments, and the constructor takes only the two uint256 values, so nothing can grant an owner role. Ownership checks in the protected tests therefore have nothing to flag.

    Verification

    • The manifest parses as JSON with exactly the schema keys, every constructor argument is a string, the name is a valid identifier under 32 characters, and notes are under 4000 characters.
    • The constructor ABI from forge inspect matches: two nonpayable uint256 inputs, epochSeconds_ then destinationCount_.
    • forge build succeeds and forge test passes all 44 tests with the verifier's fuzz seed.
    • Git status shows launch.json as the only change. No other file was touched.

  5. Audit permissionsAgent #468found 1 medium

The permissions audit is finished and found one medium-severity defect in finalize; vote holds. The findings and coverage are in .imd-findings.json. No other files changed, and I removed the scratch tests and build output.

Finding: any caller can set the route order (medium)

This is at src/RoadTripVotes.sol:158. finalize is rightly open to anyone, but a winner's place in the route queue depends on when the transaction lands, not when the epoch ended.

    • Failing state: two ended epochs with votes are both still unfinalized, with winners 10 (e0) and 20 (e0+1). A stranger who never voted calls finalize(e0+1), then anyone calls finalize(e0).
    • Result: the route is permanently [20, 10] instead of [10, 20]. A year-old winner can also be added after newer stops, and I ran that case too.
    • How likely: the site has no backend and nothing pays anyone to finalize, so a missed day leaves a backlog. The README's own step, finalize(previousEpoch), can leave an older day behind.
    • Proof: the attached Foundry test fails on this code with route must start with the epoch that ended first: 20834 != 20833.
    • Fix: record each epoch at its first vote and make finalize take them oldest first. It stays open to anyone, empty days strand nothing, and nobody can block the queue.
    • Fix check: on a patched copy outside the repo, the proof passes and only test_finalize_outOfOrderBuildsRouteInFinalizationOrder fails.
    • Decision for the author: the README lists out-of-order finalization as a deliberate choice and that test locks it in. The fix reverses that choice, so the test, the README's choices table and its "After launch" step 1 must change too.

    Coverage

    TargetVerdictBasis
RoadTripVotes.finalize(uint256)finding 1Its guards hold for every caller; only the ordering is wrong
RoadTripVotes.vote(uint256)holdsRange check, one vote per wallet per epoch, current epoch only, and the lowest-id tie rule all hold

The report also records these checks, all of which hold:

    • Access Control: there are no roles, setters, initializers, proxies, delegatecall or external calls, and the factory is left holding nothing.
    • Asymmetry: each storage variable has a single writing function and is also read, and a closed epoch's tally can't change.
    • Trust Gap: finding 1 is the only gap between these lenses; the fee, price and admin-setter cases don't apply because the contract has none of those.

    Leads not reported as findings

    • Slither's timestamp warning: epochs are meant to be defined by block.timestamp, and Sepolia timestamps are fixed by slot. A vote landing after the boundary counts for the next epoch and can't reach the closed one.
    • Many votes in one transaction: throwaway contracts cast 50 votes in one transaction. The brief counts votes per wallet and the README puts Sybil voting out of scope, so I recorded it as a trust assumption.

    Other checks and limits

    • The existing suite passes, 44 of 44.
    • docs/abi/RoadTripVotes.json matches the build, entry for entry.
    • launch.json isn't in this tree yet, so I checked the planned arguments 86400 and 64 against the constructor and the brief, not an actual manifest.
    • I couldn't run Owners.protected.t.sol because the OwnerChecks.sol file it imports wasn't supplied; the contract has no owner function, and test_hasNoOwner passes.

    • mediumAny caller can set the order of the route queue, and can append a stale winner at any later timesrc/RoadTripVotes.sol:158

      Seam: access x asymmetry.

Actor: any address, including one that never voted. finalize(epoch) is correctly permissionless (the brief asks for that), but it does two things: it records a winner, which is order-independent, and it appends to _route, which is order-dependent. The append position comes only from when the transaction lands (routeIndex = _route.length), not from when the epoch ended.

So once two or more ended epochs with votes are waiting, whoever calls finalize first alone decides the order the hamster visits them, and an older winner can be appended at any later time. _route is append-only with no correcting path, so the choice is permanent. The brief says the community chooses the route and that when an epoch ends its winner is added to the end of the queue; here one caller overrides the chronological order of the community's results.

The precondition is ordinary. The website is static with no backend and nothing pays anyone to finalize, so any day when nobody calls finalize leaves a backlog. README 'After launch' step 1 tells operators to call finalize(previousEpoch), which itself skips an older unfinalized day and leaves it to land out of order later.

The README's fallback of letting the site sort or label stops by the stop's epoch field does not fix this: sorting by epoch would insert a late stop before stops already travelled, and because the marker is positioned by cumulative distance along the queue, it would jump. README 'Choices the brief left open' records out-of-order finalization as allowed and test_finalize_outOfOrderBuildsRouteInFinalizationOrder pins it, so the fix below reverses a recorded choice.

No funds are at risk on this testnet game; the harm is a broken route guarantee and a permanently wrong trip order.

      Deploy new RoadTripVotes(86400, 64) at time T = a multiple of 86400, with e0 = T / 86400.

      At T, wallet A calls vote(10).

      At T+86400, wallet B calls vote(20).

At T+172800 nobody has finalized yet.

A stranger who never voted calls finalize(e0+1), then anyone calls finalize(e0).

Expected: route[0] = (e0, 10), route[1] = (e0+1, 20), the order the epochs ended in, or the first call refused.

      Actual: route[0] = (e0+1, 20), route[1] = (e0, 10), permanently.

Stale variant, also run: leave e0 unfinalized, finalize e0+1, warp 365 days, and a stranger's finalize(e0) still succeeds and appends the year-old winner after the newer stop.

The proof below fails on this tree with 'route must start with the epoch that ended first: 20834 != 20833'.

Proposed minimal fix, keeping finalize permissionless and the ABI additions small: on the first vote of an epoch (tally.totalVotes == 0) push the epoch to a _votedEpochs array; in finalize, after the existing checks, require _votedEpochs[_cursor] == epoch, then increment _cursor.

Empty epochs never enter the array, so they strand nothing, and anyone can always finalize the oldest waiting epoch, so nobody can block the queue.

This was run on a patched copy outside the repository: the proof passes, and of the 44 existing tests only test_finalize_outOfOrderBuildsRouteInFinalizationOrder fails, which is the test that pins the old choice.

The author must also change that test, the README choice row, and README step 1 to finalize oldest first.

Review complete. The findings file is written and validated, and the scratch tests are removed so the tree holds only the findings file.

Outcome: no critical, high or medium defects in the economics area. The contract has no tokens, external calls, ETH handling or owner, so the Economic Security guide's dependency, token and value-flow failure modes have nothing to attach to. The invariants I mapped all hold: vote totals conserve, the incrementally tracked leader equals the brute-force argmax with lowest-id ties (checked by induction and the project's fuzz test), each epoch is finalized at most once, and a recorded winner can never change.

    Findings written to .imd-findings.json:

    • Low, finalize route order. The route queue is appended in call order, not day order. When two ended epochs are unfinalized at once, any caller can finalize the later one first and the on-chain queue permanently shows the later day's destination ahead of the earlier day's. The brief says the winner is added to the end of the queue and the hamster travels in queue order. The README accepts this and says the site may sort by epoch, which is why it is low rather than medium. Reproduction given with exact timestamps and calls.
    • Info, Sybil trust assumption. One vote per wallet with no stake means winners cost only gas. Measured on this build, a fresh wallet's vote costs about 87k gas, which is faucet ETH on Sepolia. This matches the brief and is documented, so it is recorded as the trust assumption of the economics, not a defect.
    • Info, boundary crediting. A vote has no epoch argument, so one signed before 00:00 UTC and included after lands in the next day. This is the concrete shape of the slither timestamp lead. No value depends on it and Sepolia's slot timestamps cannot be shifted by a proposer, so it is informational, with an optional expected-epoch parameter suggested.

Coverage: both entry points have rows, finalize as finding 1 and vote as holds, plus five invariant and launch-input rows. Every row was traced by me, no helpers ran. The one area I did not exercise beyond reasoning is a reorg across an epoch boundary, which the contract cannot influence.

    • lowRoute queue is in finalization order, so any caller can permanently invert the day order of the routesrc/RoadTripVotes.sol:157

The brief says that when an epoch ends its winner 'is added to the end of the route queue' and the marker 'travels to the first destination in the queue, then the next'. finalize(epoch) accepts any ended, unfinalized epoch with votes in any order and appends to _route in call order (src/RoadTripVotes.sol:147-161). Nothing ties the append position to the epoch number.

Whenever two or more ended epochs are unfinalized at once (the README's own 'if nobody calls it, the route simply pauses' case), an unprivileged caller who finalizes the later epoch first fixes the on-chain queue with the later day's destination ahead of the earlier day's, and the order can never be corrected because there is no removal or reordering path.

Flow Gap seam: execution x first principles. Each call is individually correct, the end state contradicts the stated queue semantics. Cost to the actor: two finalize transactions (about 100k gas each on Sepolia).

Victim: the game's route integrity, which route()/routeAt() publish as the queue the website drives the hamster from. The README documents this as an accepted choice and says the site may sort by the stop's epoch field, so the severity is low; it is reported because the contract's own route views do not honor the brief's ordering guarantee and the deviation is permanent and attacker-selectable.

Minimal fix preserving intent: in finalize, require that epoch is greater than the epoch of the last route stop when the route is non-empty (so appends are monotonic in day order), and document that a skipped older day must then be finalized before any later one. Alternative with no behavior change on chain: keep finalization order but make the website order stops by epoch, which the README already allows. Either is a scope decision for the author.

      State: contract deployed with (86400, 64) at START = 1799971200 (a multiple of 86400), e0 = START/86400.

      Calls: (1) at t=START, wallet A calls vote(10).

      (2) warp to START+86400, wallet B calls vote(20).

      (3) warp to START+2*86400; now e0 and e0+1 are both ended and unfinalized.

Any address calls finalize(e0+1) then finalize(e0).

Expected per brief: route queue [ (e0,10), (e0+1,20) ], hamster travels to 10 first.

      Actual: routeAt(0) = (e0+1, 20), routeAt(1) = (e0, 10); route() returns [20, 10]; routeLength() = 2 and no function can reorder it.

The project's own test test_finalize_outOfOrderBuildsRouteInFinalizationOrder (test/RoadTripVotes.t.sol:385-405) asserts this inverted order.

    • infoTrust assumption: one-vote-per-wallet is Sybil-able at gas cost only, so any single actor can decide every epoch's winnersrc/RoadTripVotes.sol:123

The only uniqueness check is per msg.sender per epoch. There is no stake, fee, allowlist or token weight, which is what the brief asks for ('one vote per wallet per epoch', 'no token or payments'). Consequently the economic security of the winner selection is exactly the gas cost of fresh wallets.

Measured on this build: the first vote of an epoch costs 164,889 gas (it initializes the tally slots) and each later vote by a new wallet costs 86,680 gas. On Sepolia that gas is faucet ETH, so the marginal cost of an extra vote is effectively zero. Any actor with k+1 wallets beats k honest voters on another destination, and the same actor can also farm the Navigator leaderboard by voting with many wallets for the destination they then make win.

The README documents this as out of scope by design and suitable only for a testnet game. Recorded here as the trust assumption of the economics, not as a defect; no code change is proposed unless the requester wants Sybil resistance, which would change the agreed design.

State: deployed (86400, 64), any epoch.

Calls: wallets 0x1, 0x2, 0x3 (all controlled by one actor) each call vote(5); wallets 0x10 and 0x11 (honest) each call vote(7). leaderOf(currentEpoch()) returns (5, 3).

After the epoch ends finalize(epoch) records winnerOf(epoch) = 5 although only one real participant wanted it.

Gas per extra wallet vote: 86,680 (measured with forge, see description).

    • infovote() takes no epoch argument, so a vote signed before 00:00 UTC but included after it is counted for the next daysrc/RoadTripVotes.sol:122

The epoch a vote is credited to is derived only from block.timestamp at inclusion time (currentEpoch() = block.timestamp / epochSeconds, line 169). A voter who sends a transaction in the last seconds of a day, expecting to influence that day's winner, has it counted toward the following day if the transaction is included in the first block of the new day, and the voter has no way to express 'only count this for epoch N'.

This is the concrete shape of the slither 'timestamp for comparisons' lead: the comparison in finalize (line 149) is correct and no value depends on it; the only effect is this crediting of boundary votes to the next day, and on Sepolia (post-merge, 12-second slots) the proposer cannot shift the timestamp to engineer it. No funds or guarantees are at risk, so this is informational.

If the author wants to close it without changing the design, add an optional expected-epoch parameter or a separate vote(uint256 destinationId, uint256 epoch) that reverts with a dedicated error when epoch != currentEpoch(); the website can then pass the epoch it displayed.

      State: deployed (86400, 64) at START = 1799971200, e0 = START/86400; wallet A intends to vote for destination 3 on day e0 and signs at t = START+86399.

The transaction is included in the block at t = START+86400.

      Calls: vote(3) at block.timestamp = START+86400.

      Expected by the voter: totalVotes(e0) = 1, votesFor(e0,3) = 1.

      Actual: totalVotes(e0) = 0, totalVotes(e0+1) = 1, votesFor(e0+1,3) = 1, and finalize(e0) reverts with NoVotes(e0) if nobody else voted that day.

  7. Write foundry testsAgent #10042 files changedsent back

I added two test files for RoadTripVotes and found no correctness defect. forge build compiles with no warnings, and forge test with the verifier's fuzz seed passes all 68 tests: the 44 that were already there and 24 new ones.

test/RoadTripVotes.invariant.t.sol (invariant tests over random call sequences) The contract holds no ETH, but it does keep vote tallies, so I wrote invariant tests for it. A handler contract makes random calls from 6 wallets: voting (mostly for ids 0–2 so ties happen often, sometimes for an id out of range), voting twice, finalizing past, current and future epochs, and moving the clock, including to exact epoch boundaries. It keeps its own record of every tally, and each call must succeed or fail with exactly the error that record predicts. After every step these are checked:

    • Vote counts: each destination's count matches the record, the counts add up to totalVotes, and totalVotes equals the number of wallets that voted.
    • Leader: leaderOf always equals the destination with the most votes, lowest id on a tie.
    • Route queue:
      • it has exactly one stop per finalized epoch, in the order they were finalized;
      • each stop matches winnerOf;
      • only ended epochs that got votes are ever finalized;
      • no epoch appears twice;
      • unfinalized epochs have no winner.
    • Fixed settings: the configuration never changes and the contract balance stays at 0.

Run counts are set in the file (256 runs, depth 64), since foundry.toml is off limits. To check the suite can actually catch a bug, I ran it against a scratch copy of the contract with the tie-break reversed. The leader and route checks both failed on it, as they should.

test/RoadTripVotes.edge.t.sol (23 tests, mostly failure paths and edge cases)

    • Epoch boundaries: a vote in the last second counts for the closing epoch, and one at the exact end goes to the next; epoch 0 works from timestamp 0; an epoch with no votes can never be finalized; a failed early finalize doesn't block the real one; finalizing the largest possible epoch number is rejected.
    • Extreme settings: a single destination, one-second epochs, the largest possible destination count, and both constructor arguments zero.
    • Value: sending ETH with the constructor is rejected, and calls to unknown functions revert.
    • Ties: a lower id that catches up wins the tie, a three-way tie goes to the lowest id, and id 0 never wins by default when nobody voted for it.
    • Order independence: the winner is the same whether the same votes arrive forward, backward or interleaved (1,000 runs).
    • No side effects: a rejected vote changes nothing.
    • Sealed results: a finalized epoch's tally can't change afterwards.
    • Events and callers: the Finalized event's routeIndex counts up, and a contract can call finalize.

I also confirmed that docs/abi/RoadTripVotes.json matches the compiled ABI.

Finding (info), in .imd-findings.json: the route queue follows the order epochs are finalized in, not the order they happened in. Since anyone can finalize, when several ended epochs are still waiting, whoever finalizes first decides their order. The README calls this a deliberate choice, and each route stop records its epoch so the website can sort by date. I reported it so the reviewer and the website decide on purpose which order the marker follows. Nothing of value is at stake, so it has no proof file.

The new test files are not committed.

    • infoRoute queue order is finalization order, so any caller can reorder stops relative to epoch ordersrc/RoadTripVotes.sol:139

finalize(epoch) is permissionless and accepts any ended, unfinalized epoch with votes, appending its winner at _route.length. When two or more ended epochs are still unfinalized, whoever finalizes first chooses their order in the route queue. The brief says the winner 'is added to the end of the route queue' when the epoch ends; the README documents finalization order as a deliberate choice and each RouteStop carries its epoch, so the website can sort by epoch.

No value is at stake. This is listed so the independent review and the website decide explicitly whether the marker follows route() order or epoch order. The tests assert the documented behaviour: test_finalize_outOfOrderBuildsRouteInFinalizationOrder in test/RoadTripVotes.t.sol and test_finalize_routeIndexIncrementsInEvents in test/RoadTripVotes.edge.t.sol.

      Epoch e0: alice votes 10.

      Epoch e0+1: alice votes 20.

      Warp to e0+2.

      Call finalize(e0+1), then finalize(e0).

      Actual: routeAt(0) = {epoch: e0+1, destinationId: 20}, routeAt(1) = {epoch: e0, destinationId: 10}.

Under a strict reading of 'added to the end of the queue when the epoch ends', routeAt(0) would be e0's winner (10).

  8. Audit judgeAgent #539found 1 medium, 2 info

The review is complete and written to .imd-findings.json. No repository files were changed. The scratch tests and the temporary patched copy were removed.

Outcome: one medium finding, two informational trust notes, and a coverage record for both entry points plus six invariant rows. The project's full suite passes (68 tests), the ABI export is byte-identical to the current build, and the manifest is schema-valid with the correct two constructor words and no owner, as the brief requires.

Finding 1, medium, merged from all four specialists. The route queue is in finalize-call order, not epoch order. Whenever two or more ended epochs are waiting, any address, even one that never voted, can call finalize on the later epoch first and permanently invert the hamster's route, or append a year-old winner after newer stops. The brief says a winner is added to the queue when its epoch ends. I reproduced it with the exact steps in the report, ran the permissions specialist's proof on this tree (it fails with 20834 != 20833), and confirmed in a copy outside the repository that the proposed fix makes the proof pass. The fix keeps finalize permissionless: record each voted epoch in an ascending array on its first vote and require finalize to consume them from a cursor. I attached that proof to the finding and noted the author must also change the one existing test that pins the old behaviour, plus two README passages.

Dropped or downgraded: nothing was dropped. The write_foundry_tests, math and economics reports of the same root cause were merged into finding 1 at medium, since the broken guarantee is attacker-selectable and permanent, though no funds are at stake.

Informational, both reproduced: one-vote-per-wallet is Sybil-able at gas cost only, which matches the brief and is recorded as the economic trust assumption. A vote included in the first block after 00:00 UTC counts for the next day, which is the concrete shape of the slither timestamp lead and needs only a website warning, since the brief fixes the vote signature.

Own pass: leader tracking and the lowest-id tie rule hold under all orderings I tried, finalized tallies are immutable, the constructor reads no chain state and reverts on zero inputs, and the contract has no external calls, ownership, or forbidden opcodes.

    • mediumRoute queue order is set by whoever calls finalize, so any caller can permanently reorder the hamster's route or append a stale winner after newer stopssrc/RoadTripVotes.sol:157

Merged from four specialists (write_foundry_tests info, audit_math low, audit_permissions medium, audit_economics low): one root cause. finalize(epoch) (src/RoadTripVotes.sol:147-161) accepts any ended, unfinalized epoch with votes, in any order, and appends the winner at routeIndex = _route.length, so a stop's position in the route depends only on when the finalize transaction lands, never on the epoch number.

The approved brief says that when an epoch ends its winner 'is added to the end of the route queue' and the marker 'travels to the first destination in the queue, then the next'.

Whenever two or more ended epochs are waiting (the README's own 'if nobody calls it, the route simply pauses' case: finalization is permissionless, unincentivised, and the site is static with no backend), any address, including one that never voted, chooses the order the community's winners are visited in by calling finalize on the later epoch first, and can hold back an old epoch and append its winner after much newer ones at any later time. _route is append-only with no correction path, so the choice is permanent, and route()/routeAt() publish the inverted order as the queue the website drives the marker from.

README 'After launch' step 1 (call finalize(previousEpoch)) itself skips an older unfinalized day. The README's fallback of sorting by the stop's epoch field does not restore the guarantee: a late-finalized older stop would then sort before stops already travelled and the marker, positioned by cumulative distance along the queue, would jump. No funds are at stake (medium: broken guarantee under an ordinary condition, attacker-selectable and permanent).

The README records out-of-order finalization as a choice the brief left open and test_finalize_outOfOrderBuildsRouteInFinalizationOrder (test/RoadTripVotes.t.sol:385-405) pins it, but the brief's queue semantics are by epoch end, so this is a gap against the brief rather than an open choice.

Minimal fix keeping finalize permissionless: in vote, when tally.totalVotes == 0 push the epoch to a uint256[] _votedEpochs; in finalize, after the existing checks, require _votedEpochs[_cursor] == epoch (dedicated error) and increment _cursor. Empty epochs never enter the array so nothing is stranded, anyone can always finalize the oldest waiting epoch so nobody can block the queue, and the first-vote cost rises by one array push.

Verified in a copy outside the repository: with that patch the attached proof passes and the whole existing suite passes except the test that pins the old choice. The author must also update that test, README step 1 (finalize oldest waiting epoch first) and the README choice row.

A simpler alternative, requiring epoch > the last route stop's epoch, also fixes the ordering but permanently strands any skipped older epoch's votes, contradicting the README's 'votes are never lost', and would not pass the attached proof.

      Deploy new RoadTripVotes(86400, 64) at START = 1799971200 (a multiple of 86400), e0 = START/86400 = 20833.

At START, wallet A calls vote(10).

      At START+86400, wallet B calls vote(20).

At START+172800 both epochs have ended and neither is finalized.

Address 0xBAD, which never voted, calls finalize(e0+1); then anyone calls finalize(e0).

      Expected per brief: routeAt(0) = (e0, 10), routeAt(1) = (e0+1, 20), or the out-of-order call refused.

      Actual: finalize(e0+1) succeeds and routeAt(0) = (20834, 20); finalize(e0) succeeds (also at START+367 days in the stale variant) and routeAt(1) = (20833, 10); route() returns [20, 10]; no function can reorder it.

Run: the attached proof fails on this tree with 'route must start with the epoch that ended first: 20834 != 20833'; a scratch Foundry test asserting the inverted order with these exact steps passed on this tree.

    • infoTrust assumption: one vote per wallet is Sybil-able at gas cost only, so one actor with enough wallets decides every epoch's winner and the Navigator leaderboardsrc/RoadTripVotes.sol:124

From audit_economics, reproduced. The only uniqueness check is per msg.sender per epoch; there is no stake, fee, allowlist or token weight, exactly as the brief asks ('one vote per wallet per epoch', 'no token or payments'). The security of winner selection is therefore the gas cost of fresh wallets, which on Sepolia is faucet ETH.

Any actor with k+1 wallets outvotes k honest voters, and the same wallets then count as matches on the off-chain Navigator leaderboard. The README documents this as out of scope by design and suitable only for a testnet game. Recorded as the trust assumption of the economics, not as a defect; no code change proposed, since Sybil resistance would change the agreed design.

      Deploy (86400, 64).

      In one epoch e, wallets 0x1, 0x2, 0x3 (one actor) each call vote(5); wallets 0x10 and 0x11 each call vote(7). leaderOf(e) returns (5, 3).

Warp past the epoch and call finalize(e): winnerOf(e) = 5.

Run: a scratch Foundry test with these exact steps passed on this tree.

    • infovote() takes no epoch argument, so a vote sent in the last seconds of a day but included after 00:00 UTC is credited to the next daysrc/RoadTripVotes.sol:122

From audit_economics, reproduced; this is also the concrete shape of the slither 'timestamp for comparisons' lead at line 149. The epoch a vote counts for is block.timestamp / epochSeconds at inclusion time (currentEpoch(), line 169), and the voter cannot express which epoch they meant. A transaction signed at the last second of day N and included in the first block of day N+1 counts for N+1, and if it was the only vote of day N, finalize(N) reverts with NoVotes(N).

The finalize comparison itself is consistent with vote within any block, no value depends on it, and on post-merge Sepolia a proposer cannot move the timestamp to engineer this, so it is informational. The brief fixes the signature as vote(destinationId), so the practical mitigation is in the website: warn near the boundary and show the epoch the vote will be counted for after inclusion.

An optional vote(destinationId, expectedEpoch) overload that reverts when expectedEpoch != currentEpoch() would close it on chain if the requester wants it.

      Deploy (86400, 64) at START = 1799971200, e0 = START/86400.

Warp to START+86400 (the first second of e0+1) and have wallet A call vote(3), as if it had been sent at START+86399 and included one block later.

      Expected by the voter: totalVotes(e0) = 1.

      Actual: totalVotes(e0) = 0, totalVotes(e0+1) = 1, votesFor(e0+1, 3) = 1, and finalize(e0) reverts with NoVotes(e0).

Run: a scratch Foundry test with these exact steps passed on this tree.

  9. Build contract projectAgent #15504 files changed

The revision is complete. The medium finding reproduced and is fixed; the two advisory findings are answered in .imd-responses.json.

Finding 243ea9ec (route reorderable by any finalize caller): fixed. The reviewer's proof failed on the starting tree with the reported message and passes on the result. The fix follows the minimal design the finding proposed, keeping finalize permissionless:

    • The first vote of an epoch appends that epoch to an on-chain list of voted epochs.
    • finalize only accepts the oldest unfinalized entry of that list. Any other epoch reverts with a new NotNextInQueue(epoch, pendingEpoch) error, after the existing not-ended, already-finalized and no-votes checks.
    • Empty epochs never enter the list, so they never block the queue. Anyone can always finalize the oldest waiting epoch, so nobody can block or reorder the route, and no votes are stranded.
    • New views pendingEpoch() and votedEpochCount() let the website and operators find the epoch to finalize next.

Tests. The test that pinned finalization-order behaviour was removed. Added tests cover in-order finalization of several waiting days, the reviewer's stranger scenario, the 365-day stale-epoch variant, refusal of later epochs while an older one waits, error precedence, the pending view, and a fuzz test over random voted and empty day patterns asserting the route is always in epoch order.

Documentation. The README's finalization section, trust notes, "After launch" step 1 (read pendingEpoch() and finalize oldest first) and the open-choices row now describe the epoch-order guarantee. The ABI export in docs/abi was regenerated.

Advisory findings. The Sybil finding (b49423a9) is answered as disputed: it reproduces but is the brief's design, is already documented as a trust assumption, and the reviewer proposed no change. The epoch-boundary finding (e6ca821b) is answered as fixed by documentation: the README now explains that a vote counts for the block's epoch and that the site should warn near 00:00 UTC. The brief fixes the vote(destinationId) signature, so no overload was added.

  10. ManifestAgent #521 file changed

The manifest is done and verified. Only launch.json changed, and the repository tree is otherwise untouched.

What I found. The accepted launch.json from the previous round already had the correct structure: kind evm_contracts, one contract named RoadTripVotes, and the two static constructor words the brief and the source require. The build and the full test suite pass with the verifier's fuzz seed.

    CheckResult
    forge buildok, lint warnings only
forge test with pinned seed51 passed, 0 failed
    Manifest keyskind, contracts, notes only
    Notes length1478 of 4000
    Files changedlaunch.json only

What I changed. The notes still described the earlier contract behavior. The builder round before this one added in-order finalization and several views, so I rewrote only the notes string. It now states that finalize accepts only the oldest voted epoch, names the four revert reasons, and lists the current views and events. The constructor arguments and the contract entry are unchanged.

Why no $owner. The approved brief says the contract has no owner, admin, upgrade path, token or payments. The source in src/RoadTripVotes.sol matches that, and the test suite confirms no owner selectors exist. The constructor takes only epochSeconds and destinationCount, so the manifest passes 86400 and 64 with no address arguments.

Nothing is left to do. The constructor is nonpayable, reads no other contract and no block data, so it deploys on the empty rehearsal chain the protected test uses. No scratch files were created and no blocked file is needed.

  11. Write foundry testsAgent #18632 files changed

I've updated my two test files so they match the revised RoadTripVotes, which now only lets epochs be finalized in order. The full suite passes with the verifier's fuzz seed: 76 tests, 0 failed. I found no defects to report, so I didn't write .imd-findings.json.

Why they failed: the implementation now rejects any epoch with votes that isn't the oldest one still waiting, with NotNextInQueue(epoch, pendingEpoch). My earlier tests assumed epochs could be finalized in any order, so two of them failed:

    • test_finalize_routeIndexIncrementsInEvents finalized a newer epoch first.
    • The invariant handler's model didn't expect the new error.

    test/RoadTripVotes.edge.t.sol

    • test_finalize_routeIndexIncrementsInEvents now checks that finalizing the newer epoch first reverts with NotNextInQueue without using up a route slot. It then finalizes both epochs in order (route indexes 0 then 1) and checks that pendingEpoch() reports nothing left.
    • New test_pendingEpoch_skipsEmptyEpochsAndStaysOnCurrent covers the new failure paths:
      • Ten empty epochs in a row don't block the queue.
      • An empty epoch still reverts with NoVotes, not NotNextInQueue.
      • When the waiting epoch is the one still open, finalizing it reverts with EpochNotEnded and the queue doesn't move. It finalizes once the epoch ends.

    test/RoadTripVotes.invariant.t.sol

    • The handler now tracks the epochs that received votes, in order, plus a position marking the oldest one not yet finalized. It predicts NotNextInQueue with the exact arguments.
    • A quarter of finalize calls now target the waiting epoch, so successful finalizations happen regularly instead of mostly being rejected.
    • The route check now requires stops in strictly increasing epoch order, replacing the old "no epoch twice" check.
    • New invariant_pendingEpochIsOldestUnfinalized checks four things:
      • votedEpochCount() and pendingEpoch() match the model.
      • Epochs with votes are listed in increasing order.
      • The finalized epochs are always the oldest ones, so no ended epoch with votes is ever skipped.
      • The route lines up one-to-one with that list.

All six invariants passed: 256 runs × 64 calls, with no unexpected reverts. Nothing outside test/ was changed, and I left the changes uncommitted.

  12. Audit judgeAgent #1161found nothing

The review is settled with no open defects. The findings file is written and valid, and the working tree is unchanged apart from it.

Medium finding (route order set by finalize caller): fixed and confirmed. Both attached proofs, copied under test/scratch, pass on this tree. The contract now enrols each epoch on its first vote and refuses any finalize that is not the oldest voted, unfinalized epoch with a dedicated error. I traced the new path and found the cursor index is always in bounds, the pending epoch is always finalizable by anyone or still running, and empty days never block the queue. The author removed the test that pinned the old behaviour, added the ordering tests and a fuzz over voted and empty day patterns, and updated the README's step 1, finalization section and choice row. The ABI export in docs matches the compiled ABI exactly.

Two advisories: stand as documented trust notes, not restated. The Sybil note is the design the brief asks for and the README records it. The boundary-vote note is now documented with the website guidance, and the signature stays as the brief fixes it.

Fresh pass over the revised code: nothing new. The full suite of 76 tests, including the invariant suite, passes. Runtime bytecode is 2,714 bytes, the constructor reads no other contract, and the manifest's two arguments match the constructor in order. Both slither timestamp leads are the designed epoch comparison and a cursor read, not defects.

Output is in .imd-findings.json: zero findings, both entry points marked as holding, plus rows recording how each prior finding was settled.

    • mediumbug: failed initial contract reads are presented as an empty Navigator historyweb/src/App.tsx:772

Now: When the initial contract snapshot fails, the Navigator query is disabled because route is undefined, but the final rendering branch says “No winning votes recorded yet.” The trip log also presents the starting postcard despite having no route history.

Change to: Gate these empty-history branches on a successful contract snapshot and successful history query. While the snapshot is unavailable, show “Trip history is unavailable. Retry contract reads.”; keep the existing empty-state copy only for verified empty results.

Why: The read-only game must distinguish an unknown chain history from a verified empty history; an RPC failure does not establish that nobody has earned points or reached a stop.

At 390×844 in Chromium and WebKit, fresh-load the production export with no wallet and successful wheel responses.

Intercept each configured Sepolia RPC so eth_getCode returns result "0x" (the existing browser fixture uses contractFailure:true); let other mocked reads behave normally.

      Wait for “Retry contract reads”.

The route correctly says “Waiting for the route from Sepolia”, but #leaderboard contains “No winning votes recorded yet.

Your next choice could put you on the board.” and #trip-log says “The first postcard is waiting to happen.” No snapshot or event result has been obtained.

Expected: an unavailable/waiting history state, with no asserted empty ranking or arrival history.

Now: Great-circle legs intentionally keep longitudes continuous across the dateline, so journey replay can return a longitude above 180°. The marker wraps that longitude, but center() passes the unwrapped position to easeTo on a map with renderWorldCopies:false. The camera is clamped at the eastern edge and the hamster stays outside the viewport.

Change to: Set the easeTo center to maplibregl.LngLat.convert(position).wrap(), keeping continuous route geometry unchanged.

Why: The “Find the hamster” control must reveal the current marker for the worldwide destinations, including the Queenstown-to-Honolulu crossing.

At 390×844 in Chromium, use the existing browser fixture with route=[{epoch:currentEpoch-3,destinationId:62},{epoch:currentEpoch-2,destinationId:63}], successful OSRM responses {code:"NoRoute"} for both legs, core cumulativeWork="100", stats acceptedWorkUnits="100" and observedDistanceMm="189042875" (SCALE=100).

The wheel strip reads “Next: Honolulu · 65% of this leg”; map coordinates are -2.24°, 192.01°.

Scroll to the map and click “Find the hamster”.

Actual camera center is 176.088867°, zoom 5, and marker x=887..951 while the map occupies x=17..373: the marker is invisible.

Expected: center on wrapped longitude approximately -167.99°, showing the hamster.

Calling the same easeTo with center=[-167.99,-2.24] places the marker at x=163..227 inside the map.
