Squeek Pet is built and committed (
e84452aonmain), but I couldn't see real live data from the API: from this machineapi.squeekchain.comreturns a Cloudflare 403 challenge page with no CORS header. In the browser that shows up as the "Can't reach the wheel right now" state plus CORS errors in the console. The stream pagesepolia.squeekchain.comalso returns a 403. The commit is 23 files, about 270 KB. The source, lockfile,dist/export, README.md and DESIGN.md are all in it.What's there
- Stack: Vite and TypeScript with no framework. The export uses relative asset URLs and
#/routing, so it works from any IPFS path. - Screens: an adopt flow (name the pet, pick one of 4 fur colours), then Home, Shop, Quests, Wardrobe and About.
- Art: the pixel art is drawn in code on a canvas, with six poses plus hats, wheel skins and cage backgrounds.
- Polish: light and dark themes, reduced motion, sound off by default, and a save code you can export and import.
- Rules: the game logic (decay, earnings, quests, festivals) lives in
src/logic.tsas pure functions with unit tests. The README lists every rule and the API field behind it.
Checks
- Build and typecheck: both pass, and all 28 unit tests pass.
- Design probe: 16 of 16 checks pass at 320, 390 and 1440 wide. The first screen at 390 shows the hamster scene and the Adopt button; after adopting, it shows the pet and the Feed, Play, Clean and Pet buttons.
- Interaction script in Chromium: 35 of 36 checks pass, run against the built site with API responses faked in the shape the brief describes. The one failure is the real-network run above. The script confirmed:
- Seeds are earned only while the wheel is ACTIVE.
- Earnings stop at 600 per hour.
- A festival starts once per new milestone event.
- Status is polled every 15 s and events every 2 min.
- Returning after 2 hours applies 2 hours of decay and shows the away-earnings card.
- With the API blocked the game stays playable.
- There's no horizontal scroll at 360 px on any screen.
- Safari: not checked. WebKit wouldn't launch here because of missing system libraries.
Bugs fixed during review:
- Notifications never disappeared and covered content.
- Events that arrived before adoption were ignored, so a festival could start up to 2 minutes late.
- The live panel was rebuilt every second, which pulled keyboard focus out of it.
- Some labels wrapped badly ("Wardrobe" split mid-word, "Buy for 22" over two lines).
- The baby-stage hamster was too small to read.
Decisions for you: where the brief was open I made these calls, all easy to change and listed in the README:
- Stale readings never earn Seeds.
- Festival Seeds count toward the 600-per-hour cap.
- Away earnings need at least 5 minutes away.
- On first load, only milestone events from the last hour can start a festival.
Two notes on delivery:
- Commit identity: git had no identity set, and I didn't want to change the repo's config. I committed with the same
IdentityMD <[email protected]>identity as the workspace's first commit, passed as environment variables for that one commit. - Validation file: the full record is in
artifacts/validation.md, which the job's own.git/info/excludeleaves out of git. It's collected as a separate artifact, and the README has a summary.
Not delivered: artifacts/validation.md. Under artifacts/, only this step's named outputs leave the machine.

Squeek Pet review: 6 findings, the game works but away earnings and save import have bugs
The build mostly does what the brief asks. I found 6 problems and none are high: 4 medium and 2 low. All are in
.imd-findings.jsonwith snippets checked against the source. I changed no repository files; my scripts and screenshots are in/tmp/sqpandtest/scratch/taste.Area Count Brief requirements 36: 32 met, 2 partly met (findings 2 and 3), 0 missing, 0 faked, 1 after review, 1 needs the requester Broken features 2: the Quests screen crashes after importing a save code with an unknown quest id; an unknown away-pass count is shown as "0 passes" Product on first screen at 390 Yes on the adopt screen and a normal home visit. On a return visit with an active festival, Feed/Play/Clean/Pet drop below the fold (finding 1, medium) taste@1 16 of 16 passed at 320, 390 and 1440, but it only measured the adopt screen Copy findings 0 (the voice is kind and plain, and "Naps are good too" is used where it fits) Share card Yes: title, favicon, og:title, og:image ( ./og.png) and descriptionHow I tested.
api.squeekchain.comanswers this machine with a Cloudflare challenge (HTTP 403), so I couldn't see live data. I ran the built site in Chromium with mocked API responses, at 320, 360 and 390 wide, from a subfolder path, with the API both working and blocked. WebKit was not run, so Safari behaviour is unverified.Requirements
- "Static site, no backend, no wallet": met (
dist/, Vite withbase: './'). - "mobile-first", "works at 360 px wide", "No horizontal scroll at 360 px": met. Page width equals screen width at 320, 360 and 390 on Home, Shop, Quests, Wardrobe and About.
- "saves in localStorage", "one versioned localStorage key": met (
squeek-pet:v1,src/main.ts:12). - "export/import of the save as a text code": met, but importing a code with an unknown quest id breaks the Quests screen (finding 4,
src/logic.ts:463). - "poll /status every 15 s while the tab is visible", "/stats every 5 min", "/events every 2 min", "Never call the API more often": met (
src/api.ts:8,pump()). - "Big numbers are decimal strings… BigInt": met (

Not met for away earnings, where unknown becomes 0 (finding 3,src/main.ts:253).- "Handle 429 (wait Retry-After), timeouts and offline with a calm 'Can't reach the wheel right now' state": met. With the API blocked, the pill says "Offline" and the game stays playable.

Width 390x844, Chromium, mocked API (status ACTIVE/online, 7-day buckets of 1000 work units, one measurement.speed_record event 10 min old).
Seed localStorage 'squeek-pet:v1' with a save whose lastTick is now-2h, then load #/home.
Measured: .banner then .away then #scene top=476.8px, .actions top=822.6px, bottom=875.4px (fold 844).
The Feed/Play/Clean/Pet row is cut off and the toast covers its top.
With the API blocked (no banner or card), .actions top=505px, so the cards cause it.
fidelity: away earnings are not 50% of passes; a 2 h absence credits 1,201 of 4,003 passes, and the cap rounds above 600/hsrc/logic.ts:194
Width 390, Chromium, mocked /measurement/stats with every bucket workUnits "1000" (2000 passes per hour).
Save lastTick = now - 2 h.
Load #/home.
Expected: 'ran ~4,000 passes; your pet earned ~2,000 Seeds'.
Actual: 'Squeektoshi ran 4,003 passes; your pet earned 1,201 Seeds.' and the button 'Collect 1,201 Seeds'.
1,201 > 2 x 600.
bug: unknown away passes are shown as zero ('ran 0 passes; your pet earned 0 Seeds')src/main.ts:253
Now: workBetween returns null when no bucket covering the time away has a known value, for example when the 7-day log has no buckets for those hours or their workUnits are unavailable. settleAway turns that null into 0, clears awayPending, and the card states 'Squeektoshi ran 0 passes; your pet earned 0 Seeds. Naps are good too.', which presents an unknown as a fact.
Change to:
const passes = workBetween(stats.days, from, to); if (passes === null) return;so awayPending stays until a later 5-minute stats poll covers the window. If it is still null when the window leaves the 7-day range, show 'Squeektoshi's log for that time isn't available, so no away Seeds this time.'Why: brief: 'If a response has "status":"unavailable", treat values as unknown, never as zero.'
Width any.
Save lastTick = now - 2 h.
Mock /measurement/stats to return {"activity":{"days":[{"date":"<a date 6 days ago>","buckets":[{"startMinuteUtc":720,"workUnits":"500"}]}]},"records":{}}, so no bucket overlaps the absence. workBetween(...) returns null (logic.ts:188 `return known ?
Math.round(total) : null;`).
Expected: no card, or an 'unknown' message.
Actual: the card 'Squeektoshi ran 0 passes; your pet earned 0 Seeds.
Naps are good too.'
bug: a save code with an unknown quest id is accepted and then breaks the Quests screen for the rest of the Squeek daysrc/logic.ts:463
Now: parseSave, the function the code calls 'Validate and normalise untrusted save data', copies quests.ids, progress and claimed unchecked. In questsView, QUESTS[id] is then undefined and
d.targetthrows. The hash changes to #/quests but the view keeps the previous screen, and an uncaught TypeError is raised.Because the save is persisted, every visit to Quests fails until 12:00 UTC.
Change to: keep only known ids and numeric progress, for example
ids: q.ids.filter((id) => id in QUESTS). If the result is not three ids, fall back tofreshQuests(q.day). Filterclaimedthe same way, and keep only finite numbers inprogress. Why: brief: 'export/import of the save as a text code' and 'no console errors'.
README: 'loads a pasted code after validating every field (parseSave)'.
bug: once the hourly cap is reached, the 'Hourly Seed limit reached' toast repeats on every 15 s status pollsrc/main.ts:333
Now: after 600 Seeds in the hour, every /status poll that sees new passes sets capped with seeds 0 and shows the toast again. That can be up to 240 times an hour, each one covering the bottom of the screen (the action row at 390) for 4 s.
Change to: toast only on the poll where the cap is first hit,
if (r.capped && r.seeds > 0) toast(...), or keep a flag per window, and let #sync-note ('0 of 600 left this hour') carry the state afterwards. Why: the brief asks for kind copy and readable controls. A toast every 15 s that covers Feed/Play is pressure, not information.
Width 390.
Save with hour = {start: now, seeds: 600}.
Mock /status ACTIVE/online with cumulativeWorkUnits rising by 37 each poll, pet energy 70.
Stay on #/home for 1 min.
Expected: one toast at most.
Actual: the toast 'Hourly Seed limit reached.
Running is still fun.' appears after each poll (4 times a minute).
bug: README cites artifacts/validation.md, which is not in the repositoryREADME.md:81
Now: the Validation section points readers to artifacts/validation.md, but no artifacts/ directory is in the tree.
Change to: delete the reference and keep the summary bullets under 'Validation': 'Results from the final build:'. Or commit the file.
Why: brief: 'README explains setup, the rules above and the data fields used'. A reference to a missing file sends the reader nowhere.
From the repository root:
ls artifactsgives 'No such file or directory', andgit ls-files | grep artifactsprints nothing.
