Compile a research directory of 300–500 high-signal voices in crypto/web3

technical and economic discourse, as structured data files.

SCOPE — open platforms only (no X/Twitter scraping; an X handle may be

listed as a known identifier, but all evidence must come from open sources):

Farcaster, personal/research blogs, Mirror, Substack/Ghost newsletters,

governance forums (e.g. Ethereum Magicians, protocol forums), GitHub

(discussions/research repos), published podcast transcripts, academic preprints.

INCLUSION BAR — signal density, not follower count:

  • Produces ORIGINAL analysis, research, engineering, or argument (not aggregation, not news rewrites, not engagement bait).
  • Active within the last 90 days on at least one open platform.
  • Cited or built upon by other credible voices (give evidence). EXCLUDE: news outlets and aggregator brands, accounts whose output is primarily

paid promotion or token-shilling, dead/dormant voices, official project

marketing accounts (individual founders/researchers are fine).

FOR EACH VOICE provide:

  • name_or_handle; identifiers per platform (farcaster handle, blog URL, forum username, github, known X handle if any — identifier only)

  • primary_platform and its URL

  • category, exactly one of: protocol-research | security | mev-markets | governance-policy | macro-economics | infra-engineering | defi-design |

    data-analysis | legal-regulatory | culture-essays

  • rationale: 1–2 sentences naming a SPECIFIC piece of work from the last 6 months, with a working link to it

  • cited_by: 1+ concrete example of another credible voice citing/building on them (link)

  • cadence: rough posting frequency (daily/weekly/monthly)

  • flags: empty, or any of [undisclosed-promotion-history, anon, project-affiliated:]

DELIVERABLES (files):

  1. voices.csv — one row per voice, columns exactly as the fields above (identifiers as a JSON object in one column; links pipe-separated)

  2. voices.json — same data as a JSON array

  3. README.md — method note (sources swept, how cited_by evidence was gathered), per-category counts table, and a shortlist of the 20 voices with the

    strongest cited_by evidence

ACCEPTANCE (checkable from delivered files alone): ≥ 300 rows; every row has a

rationale link and ≥ 1 cited_by link; every category from the list is non-empty;

CSV parses with consistent columns; README counts match the CSV.

I couldn’t complete the requested directory. No files were created: this session permits filesystem reads only and provides no file-export tool. I also haven’t verified 300 distinct voices against both the recent-activity and independent-citation requirements, so I can’t honestly report that the acceptance criteria pass.

For an October 25, 2026 snapshot, the required windows are:

    • Recent activity: July 27–October 25, 2026.
    • Original work supporting the rationale: April 25–October 25, 2026.

The research completed establishes the following source map. These are discovery sources, not qualified directory entries; forum activity dates alone do not establish an individual’s eligibility.

    Open source inspectedEvidence available
Ethereum ResearchOriginal technical discussions covering cryptography, networking, execution, and economics.
Ethereum MagiciansEIP and rollup proposal discussions.
Flashbots CollectiveMEV research, research proposals, and engineering discussions.
Lido GovernanceGovernance proposals and staking engineering discussions.
Uniswap GovernanceProtocol design and governance discussions.
Aave GovernanceRisk assessments and protocol proposals.
Arbitrum GovernanceTechnical discussions, proposals, and delegate rationales.
Ethereum research repositoryPublic research code suitable for tracing engineering contributions.
Lido PERCH evaluation threadA concrete engineering evaluation with an October 23, 2026 update.
Weintraub et al., A Flash(bot) in the PanNamed academic authors and original MEV analysis; this 2022 paper does not establish current activity.

The outstanding work is substantial: author identification and deduplication, dated original-work verification, independent cited_by evidence for every person, exclusion screening, category assignment, and generation and validation of the three matching files. No category counts or top-20 ranking have been established.

I couldn’t create the deliverables because the assigned workspace is inaccessible: entering it returned Permission denied, and writing .imd-blocked.json was rejected by the filesystem policy.

Please restore read/write access to the assigned workspace. No directory files were created, and I haven’t verified 300 qualifying voices.

I couldn't produce the deliverable you asked for, and it doesn't pass your acceptance checks. Two limits stopped it:

    1. I can't create files in this session. I only have read and web tools here, so voices.csv, voices.json and README.md don't exist. All I can do is show their contents in this reply.
    2. 300 rows won't fit in 20,000 bytes. Each row needs identifiers, a rationale link and at least one cited_by link, which comes to about 300–500 bytes. So 300 rows is roughly 90–150 KB.

I didn't pad the list with voices I hadn't checked. Below is a checked starter set (19 rows), the file layout, and the method for building it out to 300+.

    Schema (the voices.csv header)

    name_or_handle,identifiers,primary_platform,primary_url,category,rationale,rationale_link,cited_by,cadence,flags

    • identifiers is a JSON object in one column; cited_by links are separated by |.
    • voices.json holds the same fields as an array of objects.

Status: 19 rows. Only 6 have checked cited_by evidence (#1–4, #12, plus #5's thin link). Three categories are still empty: legal-regulatory, culture-essays and governance-policy. Barnabé's old Substack is dormant (last post 2024), so his entry has to rest on forum work.

    Draft README method note

Sources swept so far: the ethresear.ch latest feed, the Ethereum Magicians latest feed, vitalik.eth.limo, lynalden.com and the Trail of Bits blog. paradigm.xyz/writing had no bylines and was mostly AI topics, so it wasn't usable. a16zcrypto.com/posts now redirects to a16zfrontier.com, which I didn't fetch.

How cited_by evidence is gathered: a reply counts only if it engages the substance (it extends, critiques or adopts the work), not if it just says thanks. Other kinds that count:

    • a later EIP or ERC that names the earlier one;
    • a post that explicitly links the earlier work;
    • a reference in a paper.

    Follower counts are never used.

Exclusions: forum automation accounts such as system are excluded. So are template-spam ERC authors: one account had five or more "ERC-TBA agent" drafts in a single week, which looks like volume rather than signal.

    Scaling to 300–500:

    1. Every author with original posts in the last 90 days on ethresear.ch and Magicians: about 150 names.
    2. Protocol governance forums: Uniswap, Aave, Arbitrum, Optimism, Lido, Maker/Sky.
    3. Security write-ups: SEAL, Spearbit, OpenZeppelin and Cantina blogs, plus individual GitHub advisories.
    4. arXiv cs.CR and q-fin, plus IACR eprint, for authors with a Web3 focus.
    5. Substack and Mirror for macro, legal and essay writers. This is where legal-regulatory and culture-essays come from.
    6. Farcaster channels: /ethresearch, /mev, /defi.

For each candidate, cited_by is checked by searching the candidate's handle or work title inside other credible authors' posts.

    Category counts (current): protocol-research 5, mev-markets 3, data-analysis 2, defi-design 1, infra-engineering 5, security 3, macro-economics 1, governance-policy 0, legal-regulatory 0, culture-essays 0. That makes 20 voice-slots across 19 rows, because #7 is two co-authors.

Top-20 shortlist: not possible yet. Only about 5 voices have strong cited_by evidence, and they lead the list: Neuder, Bahrani, DanGuo, matt (EIP-8141) and Atis Elsts.

To get the full files, run this somewhere I can write files and split the output across several turns of about 60 rows each.
