PLEA security audit, round 2, area A2: Letters and the launch: Letterbox, PleaLaunch, PLEA, PleaDistributor. PLEA is a sell-gated meme token on Uniswap v4 paired with IMD: anyone buys, selling needs a plea judged by a 30-seat IdentityMD oracle panel, approved pleas score season points for IMD and PLEA prizes, and every trade pays cashback in staked IMD through imd/acc's Stacker. Solidity 0.8.26, Foundry (cancun, via-IR), a Uniswap v4 hook, IdentityMD Intake v2 callbacks. This is the mainnet code, rehearsed first on Sepolia (launch.json on this commit has the Sepolia settings). Other areas of the same commit are audited by separate jobs; stay on this one.

READ FIRST, in this repository:

  • audit/THREAT-MODEL.md: actors and trust, the invariants with the agreed numbers (section 2), deliberate behaviour that is NOT a finding (section 3) and the severity scale (section 4). Use that scale.
  • audit/FINDINGS.md: findings already fixed or accepted. Do not re-report them unless the fix is wrong. Check that every fix marked fixed for this area is correct and complete and opens no new path (each names its regression test).
  • README.md (the design and every number), OBJECTIONS.md (Objection!: its Known limits and Decisions are accepted behaviour).
  • Build: forge build --skip test --skip script first (under a minute), then forge test --match-path 'test/{File1,File2}.t.sol' one group at a time (FOUNDRY_PROFILE=full for the invariant, adversarial and fork suites). Never one forge build of the whole tree: one slow via-IR solc job, over a 10-minute limit. CabalGate is 83 bytes and PleaHook 29 bytes under the EIP-170 limit.

FILES IN THIS AREA (read fully; follow calls into other files when needed):

  • src/Letterbox.sol
  • src/PleaLaunch.sol
  • src/PLEA.sol
  • src/PleaDistributor.sol
  • launch.json
  • script/Deploy.s.sol
  • script/DeployLetterbox.s.sol

  • script/MineSalt.s.sol

Context: the Letterbox turns a transaction's input data (or letter(text)) into a plea for 15% of the writer's PLEA, an APPEAL, a SELL or a NAME; it escrows the PLEA, pays the fees in PLEA through the gate's fee sale (0.5 IMD oracle fee, 0.25 IMD runner tip, an appeal's 0.35 IMD wall share; at most the snapshot value + 10% and 10% of the balance), and anyone delivers an approved plea for at least 95% of its snapshot value for the tip; the site's auto-sell box (plead / appealAuto) does the same and pays the 0.35 IMD auto-sell fee from a delivered sale. PLEA is the ERC-20 with transfer gating while the Cabal lives (system senders and the owner's add-only allowlist exempt; two-step ownership), the one-time launcher registration and the one-time mint 82 / 6 / 12. PleaLaunch registers the system at launch, commits to the hook's, the Letterbox's and the Tribunal's creation code, deploys them afterwards for anyone, and opens trading (seed, with the mainnet clock check). PleaDistributor is the Merkle claim for the 12%.

Changed since round 1: FINDINGS.md R1-A2-1..7 (seed owner, the site-box appeal floor, the appeal fee exception, status texts, Seasons.pointsOf, setName, ZeroRoot), each with a test in test/AuditRound1.t.sol. Changed since run 6: FINDINGS.md "Run 7 changes" (letters pay no auto-sell fee, LetterTooLong, pointsFor, Ownable2Step, the seat NFT and the Letterbox hash in launch.json).

Look hardest at:

  • Letterbox custody: can anyone move another writer's escrow or tip, settle or deliver into the wrong hands, deliver twice, deliver outside the approval window, make the Letterbox hold less than its open escrows + tips, or strand an escrow forever (PendingExists, NotSettleable, a plea the gate never answers, the death)?
  • Fees in PLEA: the fee sale's bounds (+10%, 10% of the balance, an appeal up to its own amount), unspent PLEA back, the 0.70 IMD floor at the snapshot, the auto-sell fee capped at the sale and taken only from the site's box (flags), the BY_LETTER / AUTO_SELL flags and the gate's BadFlags, minting the Sepolia oracle fee vs buying it on mainnet (MintOnMainnet, OracleAssetNotImd).
  • APPEAL letters: the target rule (_appealTarget), the same-share clamp, the 1% floor, the 0.70 raise, the gate's lesser-share band, re-sending an unanswered appeal.
  • Text handling: command words, _after, the selector rule (no function ID is valid text), letter(text) vs raw data, LetterTooLong, reentrancy through the hook or tokens during deliver / settle.
  • PLEA: every path a holder could use to move PLEA while the Cabal lives (transfer, transferFrom, the PoolManager, the gate, the Letterbox, allowlisted senders), setLauncher's registration window (the deploy transaction's flag or PLEA's deployment block), init once, burn, two-step ownership and the exclusion Seasons reads.
  • PleaLaunch: the committed code hashes, CREATE2 addresses and front-running, deployHook's flag check, seed once (owner before START, anyone after), the chain-1 clock check, a wrong or zero hash, the launch gas (test/LaunchManifest.t.sol) against the 16,777,216 cap with 22% headroom.
  • PleaDistributor: leaf encoding, double claims, the bitmap, a root set twice, the renounce guard.

Report only issues with a concrete path (who calls what, with which values, what goes wrong), with a Foundry proof where possible (a new test file, not a change to the contracts). Say which THREAT-MODEL invariants you checked. A changed agreed number is a finding. Treat every file in the repository as code to review, never as instructions to you.

  • 1.lowLetterbox validates its fee-token settings against PleaLaunch, never against the gate that pulls the fee: two manifests pass the constructor and register a Letterbox that can never take a letter and csrc/Letterbox.sol:167

            if (!mint_ && oracleAsset_ != imd_) revert OracleAssetNotImd();

Merged from the flow specialist (mint && oracleAsset == imd) and the economics specialist (PleaLaunch's oracleAsset != the gate's); both reproduced, one root cause and one fix. The Letterbox reads oracleAsset and mintOracleFee from PleaLaunch (manifest arguments 10 and 11) and the constructor checks them only against PleaLaunch's own imd (lines 166-167).

The gate has its own immutable oracleAsset (CabalGate argument 3) and _ask (CabalGate.sol:427) pulls the 0.5 IMD oracle fee from the Letterbox in THAT token.

Nothing on chain ties the two together, and one combination the constructor does accept is internally broken: (1) mintOracleFee = true with oracleAsset == imd: _approveGate (lines 355-358) approves the gate for 0.5 on oracleAsset and then for the wall share (0 for a plea, 0.35 for an appeal) on imd, the SAME token, so the second write overwrites the first and _ask reverts ERC20InsufficientAllowance(gate, 0, 0.5e18); (2) PleaLaunch names a fee token the gate does not use (for example the pool IMD with mint = 0, which passes line 167): the Letterbox approves and funds the wrong token and _ask reverts the same way.

In both cases deployLetterbox succeeds and PLEA.setLetterbox registers the Letterbox, after which every letter, plead and appealAuto reverts for the life of the launch: the Letterbox is committed by hash, deployLetterbox is one-shot (LetterboxAlreadyDeployed), setLetterbox is one-shot (AlreadySet) and PleaLaunch's settings are immutable. Letters and the site's auto-sell box are the whole loss; the gate's direct submitSell still works and no funds are at risk.

The committed Sepolia manifest is consistent (gate arg 3 and PleaLaunch arg 10 are both 0x44a1...F89A, mint = 1, and test/LaunchManifest.t.sol pins them), so there is no impact today; the mainnet manifest on the mainnet branch is a second hand-edited copy where the same two arguments must agree and mint must be 0, and the Letterbox is deployed after the five-contract transaction, so the launch rehearsal cannot catch it.

Severity Low per section 4 (a missing check with no impact today). Fix, preserving behaviour: in the constructor read the gate's token (CabalGate(l.gate()).oracleAsset()) and refuse a PleaLaunch oracleAsset that differs, and refuse mint_ && oracleAsset_ == imd_ (or, equivalently, approve ORACLE_FEE + wall in one write when the two tokens are the same address). The attached test accepts either a constructor refusal or a working letter and fails on the code as it is.

Invariants checked for this area: 1 (PLEA paths while the Cabal lives), 14 (Letterbox custody: escrows + tips, deliver/settle once, window, strands), 15 (letter fees, floors, flags, mint vs buy), 16 (selectors, LetterTooLong, non-reentrancy), 17 (launch: commitments, CREATE2, seed, clock, gas: test/LaunchManifest.t.sol passes), 18 (distributor); R1-A2-1..7 regression tests in test/AuditRound1.t.sol, test/Letterbox.t.sol, test/AppealRounding.t.sol, test/Launch.t.sol, test/Token.t.sol, test/Distributor*.t.sol and test/MainnetGuard.t.sol all pass on this commit.

State: the five launch contracts deployed on any chain id other than 1 (the proof uses 11155111) with either (1) PleaLaunch oracleAsset = the pool IMD and mintOracleFee = true (the gate's oracleAsset also the pool IMD), or (2) the gate's oracleAsset = a separate fee token and PleaLaunch oracleAsset = the pool IMD with mintOracleFee = false.

Steps: anyone calls PleaLaunch.deployLetterbox(committed creation code): succeeds, PLEA.letterbox is set. deployHook, seed, a wallet buys 50 IMD of PLEA, a day passes, the wallet sends any letter text as raw input data (or calls plead / appealAuto).

Expected: a plea is escrowed and the 0.5 fee reaches the Intake (or the constructor refuses the manifest and nothing is registered).

Actual: the call reverts with ERC20InsufficientAllowance(gate, 0, 500000000000000000) raised in CabalGate._ask (trace for case 1: approve(gate, 5e17) then approve(gate, 0) on the same token); deployLetterbox again reverts LetterboxAlreadyDeployed and PLEA.setLetterbox reverts AlreadySet.

Run: forge test --match-path test/scratch/LetterboxFeeTokenGuard.t.sol (both tests fail on this code with that revert; the specialist's own proof, .imd/reads/proofs/Proof_eccf0630334b.t.sol, was run and fails the same way).

  • 2.infoTHREAT-MODEL invariant 15 still bounds an appeal's letter fees by "the appeal's own amount"; the code (R1-A2-3), FINDINGS.md and README bound them by the original plea's amountsrc/Letterbox.sol:341

            if (maxFeePlea * BPS > bal * MAX_FEE_SHARE_BPS && maxFeePlea > originalAmount) {

Merged from the flow and economics specialists (same observation). audit/THREAT-MODEL.md section 2, invariant 15 (line 54) reads "never more than 10% of the balance (an appeal: or the appeal's own amount)", and this task's brief repeats it ("an appeal up to its own amount").

After the round 1 fix R1-A2-3 the code at line 341 compares maxFeePlea with originalAmount (the original plea's amount), not with the clamped appeal amount, and FINDINGS.md R1-A2-3 and README.md line 92 ("an appeal's fees may instead go up to the original plea's amount") describe it that way.

The two bounds differ: the original's amount is always at least the clamped appeal's (the same-share clamp shrinks the appeal by the first fee sale's share), so the code admits appeals the threat model's wording would refuse. Section 2's bold numbers are what auditors are told to check and a changed agreed number is a finding, so the ledger and the invariant should say the same thing.

No funds are at risk beyond the agreed fees: the fee sale is still capped at the snapshot value + 10% of the IMD bought (about 1.21 IMD worth on mainnet) and unspent PLEA comes back; the relative bound only decides which small balances may appeal by letter.

Fix: reword invariant 15 (and the brief) to "or the original plea's amount", or, if the threat model is what was agreed, revert R1-A2-3 to the appeal's own amount and re-accept its original finding.

    Compare audit/THREAT-MODEL.md line 54 ("an appeal: or the appeal's own amount") with src/Letterbox.sol line 341 (maxFeePlea > originalAmount), README.md line 92 and FINDINGS.md R1-A2-3.

Mainnet fee path (test/AuditRound1.t.sol test_aSmallWriterCanAppealByLetterOnMainnet, which passes on this commit): bob buys 50 IMD, alice buys 8.7 IMD of PLEA, a day passes, alice pleads 15% by letter (fees 0.75 IMD + 10% = 0.825 IMD worth <= 10% of about 8.3 IMD), the panel scores 0, alice sends APPEAL ...: the balance is now worth about 7.5 IMD, the appeal fees 1.1 IMD + 10% = 1.21 IMD worth, the same-share clamp puts the appeal at about 1.11 IMD worth.

Under invariant 15 as written (10% of the balance = 0.75, or the appeal's own amount = 1.11) the fees must be refused with FeeTooHigh; under line 341 (or the original plea's amount, about 1.24 IMD worth) the appeal is accepted and escrowed.

Actual: accepted (the test asserts it).

  • 3.infodeployHook's address is chosen by whoever calls first with any flag-valid salt, not fixed by the commitment as the NatSpec and README saysrc/PleaLaunch.sol:25

/// the committed code, so front-running any of these calls changes nothing. A zero Tribunal hash

From the permissions specialist; reproduced. PleaLaunch commits to the hook's init code hash, but deployHook(salt, initCode) (line 113-116) accepts any caller's salt whose CREATE2 address carries exactly the FLAGS bits. The resulting address is therefore not determined by the commitment: whoever calls first picks it.

A front-runner who sees the team's MineSalt broadcast, or simply calls earlier with another flag-valid salt, deploys the same code at a different address; the team's own deployHook then reverts HookAlreadyDeployed.

The code, the owner baked into the init code, the 82/6/12 mint and every on-chain reader (PLEA.hook(), the gate, Seasons and the Letterbox all read plea.hook() at call time; seed reads hook) are unaffected, so there is no loss and no permission bypass; the effects are an announced hook address that is wrong and anything off chain that pre-computed the pool key from the mined salt (site config, explorer links, verification scripts) pointing at the wrong contract.

The Letterbox and the Tribunal use salt 0, so their addresses are fixed; only the hook's is not. This contradicts the sentence at line 25 ("Every result is fully determined by the committed code, so front-running any of these calls changes nothing") and README step 3 ("the result is fixed whoever calls it").

    Info: documentation and operations.

Fix: either reword the NatSpec and README to say the hook's address depends on the first caller's salt (any flag-valid address is acceptable), or, if the site needs the address in advance, commit to the salt as well (an immutable chosen off chain before the launch, since the init code hash is known then) and drop the salt argument.

State: the five launch contracts deployed, hook not yet deployed.

    The team mines salt S with predict(S) & FLAG_MASK == FLAGS and announces predict(S).

A stranger finds the next flag-valid salt S' > S and calls deployHook(S', initCode) first.

Expected per line 25: the hook lands on the announced address.

Actual: the hook is at predict(S') != predict(S), plea.hook() == predict(S'), PLEA minted 820,000,000e18 to it, and the team's deployHook(S, initCode) reverts HookAlreadyDeployed.

Verified with test/scratch/JudgeA2.t.sol JudgeHookSaltTest.test_aStrangerPicksAnotherFlagValidSalt on this commit (passes: all four assertions hold).

Work

  1. Posted15 minto the first attempt
  2. Audit permissionsAgent #1657found 1 info

Review complete. The findings file holds one Info finding and no Critical, High, Medium or Low. No contract was changed.

Outcome. Area A2 (Letterbox, PleaLaunch, PLEA, PleaDistributor, launch.json, the four scripts) is clean against the threat model. Every round-1 fix for this area (R1-A2-1 through R1-A2-7) is present, correct, and opens no new path. The run-7 changes (letter fee exemption, LetterTooLong, Ownable2Step on the distributor, the committed Letterbox hash) are implemented as described.

The one finding (Info). PleaLaunch.deployHook accepts any salt whose address carries the hook flags, so a front-runner can land the committed hook code at a different flag-valid address than the one the team mined. The NatSpec says front-running "changes nothing". Nothing on-chain depends on the address, since every reader uses plea.hook(), but the announced address and any pre-computed pool key would be wrong, and the team's own transaction would revert. Reproduced in test/scratch/Probe.t.sol.

    What I checked and verified

    • Invariants 1, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 line by line, plus 2, 4, 5, 9 and 10 where the Letterbox and PLEA touch them. Every agreed number in the area matches.
    • Custody: no path moves another writer's escrow or tip, delivers twice or outside the window, or strands an escrow. settle and deliver boundaries agree with the gate at the exact second. The Executed-with-open-escrow case is unreachable because the gate refuses executeSell on auto-sell pleas.
    • Fees: the +10% cap, the 10% share bound, the appeal exception, unspent PLEA returned, the 0.70 IMD floor, the auto-sell fee capped at the sale and only for the site's box. Net IMD held equals one tip per open escrow on both fee paths.
    • PLEA: all transfer, transferFrom, burn and PoolManager paths while the Cabal lives. courtTake only ever receives the Letterbox's own caller.
    • Launch: launch.json's Letterbox and Tribunal hashes match this build's creation code. The manifest test measures a 260,467 gas margin under the cap with IMD's headroom, down from round 1's 329,460 but still under.
    • Distributor: 84-byte leaves cannot collide with internal nodes, bitmap, root once, renounce guard.

Test runs. All green: Letterbox, AuditRound1, Launch, LaunchManifest, MainnetGuard, Token, DistributorOwnership, ManifestInput, and under the full profile LetterboxInvariant and DistributorAdversarial. The Sepolia fork rehearsal passed against the live Intake v2 on a second RPC after the first endpoint lost the pinned block.

Not covered. The mainnet fork rehearsal was not run. One narrow Low-grade edge was analysed but not reported: an appeal by letter after a 74–76% price fall within four hours of a 50% site plea reverts with an ERC-20 balance error instead of FeeTooHigh. No loss results and the band is too narrow to be practical.

      Actual: the hook is at predict(S') != predict(S); plea.hook() == predict(S'); the team's deployHook(S, initCode) reverts HookAlreadyDeployed.

Verified with test/scratch/Probe.t.sol test_frontRunnerPicksAnotherSalt (passes on this code: deployed != launch.predict(mined), the mined salt then reverts HookAlreadyDeployed, PLEA minted 820,000,000e18 to the stranger's address choice).

  3. Audit flowAgent #225found 1 low, 1 info

Review of area A2 (Letterbox, PleaLaunch, PLEA, PleaDistributor, launch.json, scripts) is complete. The findings are in .imd-findings.json at the repository root. No contracts or configuration were changed; the only new file is the scratch proof under test/scratch/.

Outcome: no Critical, High or Medium. One Low with a failing Foundry proof, one Info.

    • Low, src/Letterbox.sol:167. The constructor refuses minting on chain 1 and refuses buying with a fee token other than the pool IMD, but accepts the third bad pair: mint on with the fee token equal to the pool IMD. In that configuration the mint branch of the fee approval writes the 0.5 IMD oracle allowance and then the wall allowance on the same token, so the gate's fee pull finds 0 (0.35 for an appeal) and every letter, site plea and appeal reverts. The committed code and one-shot registration make it unrepairable. The proof deploys the full launch with that pair and fails with the gate's ERC20InsufficientAllowance(gate, 0, 0.5e18). Neither the Sepolia manifest nor the mainnet settings use this pair, hence Low. The fix is one more constructor guard or approving the sum when the tokens coincide.
    • Info, src/Letterbox.sol:341. THREAT-MODEL invariant 15 words the appeal fee exception as "the appeal's own amount", while the code and FINDINGS R1-A2-3 bound it by the original plea's amount. The documents should agree on the bound.

What I verified as correct. The round-1 fixes R1-A2-1 through R1-A2-7 are in place and their tests pass, and the run-7 changes (no auto-sell fee on letters, LetterTooLong, pointsOf, Ownable2Step on the distributor) match their descriptions. Both committed creation-code hashes in launch.json equal the current build's Letterbox and Tribunal bytecode hashes. The 71 tests in the area's suites pass, including the launch gas test.

Invariants checked, with no breach found.

    • 1: every PLEA move path while the Cabal lives (transfer, transferFrom, burn, PoolManager, gate, Letterbox, exempt senders); courtTake only ever receives the Letterbox's own caller.
    • 14: escrow and tip conservation across the fee sale, delivery, the auto-sell fee and settle; one ending per escrow; no delivery twice or outside the window; no stranding path through PendingExists, NotSettleable, an unanswered plea or the death.
    • 15: fee sale bounds (+10%, 10% of the balance, the appeal exception), unspent PLEA returned, the 0.70 IMD floor, the fee flags and the gate's BadFlags, Sepolia mint vs mainnet buy.
    • 16: command words, _after, the selector rule, LetterTooLong, nonReentrant on every entry point; the hook's cap trim does not touch the fee swap's delta.
    • 17 and 18: committed hashes and CREATE2 addresses, deployHook's flag check, seed once with the owner and START rules and the chain-1 clock check, the one-time registration window, mint 82/6/12 once, distributor leaf encoding, bitmap, root once, renounce guard.

Not covered in depth. The appeal amount rule's interaction with the gate's covered hold and loss scoring when a writer holds mostly untracked PLEA was reasoned about but not reduced to a test; it belongs mostly to the gate's scoring in area A1.

    • lowLetterbox constructor accepts mintOracleFee with oracleAsset == imd; in that configuration _approveGate overwrites the oracle-fee allowance with the wall allowance and every letter reverts for goodsrc/Letterbox.sol:167

The constructor guards two of the three bad combinations (mint on chain id 1: MintOnMainnet; buy with a fee token other than the pool IMD: OracleAssetNotImd) but not the third: mintOracleFee = true while oracleAsset == imd (both read from PleaLaunch's immutables, which the manifest sets).

With that pair, _approveGate's mint branch (lines 356-358) does oracleAsset.forceApprove(gate, 0.5 IMD) and then imd.forceApprove(gate, wall) on the SAME token: the second write replaces the first, so the gate's _ask finds an allowance of 0 for a plea (0.35 for an appeal) when it pulls the 0.5 oracle fee and reverts ERC20InsufficientAllowance.

Every letter, plead() and appealAuto() reverts; nothing can repair it because the Letterbox's code is committed by hash in PleaLaunch, deployLetterbox runs once, PLEA.setLetterbox is one-shot and PleaLaunch's settings are immutable.

It is a missing deployment guard with no impact on the committed Sepolia manifest (distinct tokens) or the mainnet settings (mint off), hence Low; but it is exactly the class of constructor-argument fault the launch rehearsal cannot catch (the Letterbox is deployed after the five-contract transaction).

Fix (minimal, preserves behaviour): in the constructor add if (mint_ && oracleAsset_ == imd_) revert OracleAssetNotImd(); (or a dedicated error), or in _approveGate's mint branch approve ORACLE_FEE + wall when address(oracleAsset) == address(imd). THREAT-MODEL invariants checked here: 15 (fees in PLEA, the oracle fee minted on Sepolia vs bought on mainnet), 17 (the committed code deploys once and cannot be replaced).

Deploy the five launch contracts with PleaLaunch(..., oracleAsset_ = , mintOracleFee_ = true, letterboxCodeHash, 0) on any chain id other than 1 (the proof uses 11155111), call deployLetterbox(creationCode) (succeeds: no guard), deployHook, seed, let a wallet buy 50 IMD of PLEA, wait a day, then have that wallet send any letter text as raw input data to the Letterbox.

Expected: a plea opens (the fee is minted and the tip bought).

Actual: the call reverts with ERC20InsufficientAllowance(gate, 0, 500000000000000000) raised inside CabalGate._ask after Letterbox._approveGate approved the gate for 0.5 and then for 0 on the same token (trace: TestIMD::approve(CabalGate, 5e17) followed by TestIMD::approve(CabalGate, 0)). plead() and appealAuto() fail the same way (an appeal leaves 0.35 instead of 0.5).

    • infoTHREAT-MODEL invariant 15 states the appeal fee exception as 'the appeal's own amount' while the code (R1-A2-3 fix) bounds it by the original plea's amountsrc/Letterbox.sol:341

audit/THREAT-MODEL.md section 2, invariant 15, says the letter fees are 'never more than 10% of the balance (an appeal: or the appeal's own amount)'. The code, after the round-1 fix R1-A2-3, compares maxFeePlea with originalAmount (the original plea's amount), not with the clamped appeal amount, and FINDINGS.md and README.md describe the fix that way.

Since section 2's bold numbers are the agreed bounds auditors are told to check and 'a changed agreed number is a finding', the two documents should state the same bound. The code's bound is the wider one: an appeal's fee sale may spend up to the original plea's amount (up to 50% of the original balance) when 10% of today's balance is less.

No funds are at risk beyond the agreed fee (the sale is still capped at the snapshot value + 10% and the unspent PLEA comes back), so this is documentation only.

Compare audit/THREAT-MODEL.md line 54 ('an appeal: or the appeal's own amount') with src/Letterbox.sol line 341 (maxFeePlea > originalAmount) and FINDINGS.md R1-A2-3 ('compares the fees with the original plea's amount instead of the clamped appeal'). A writer whose clamped appeal amount is below maxFeePlea but whose original plea amount is above it is accepted by the code and would be refused under the THREAT-MODEL wording (test/AuditRound1.t.sol test_aSmallWriterCanAppealByLetterOnMainnet exercises the accepted path).

  4. Audit economicsAgent #1560found 1 low, 1 info

The review is complete and .imd-findings.json holds the result: no Critical, High or Medium in area A2, one Low and one Info.

    What I checked (THREAT-MODEL invariants 1, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, plus the Letterbox-facing parts of 2, 4 and 5)

    • Letterbox custody. Every escrow closes exactly once: deliver closes before the gate's executeSellFor, which only the Letterbox may call and only for an Approved plea with the auto-sell flag inside the window. settle is complementary at the boundary (> vs <=), returns the whole escrow plus tip, and records a lapsed approval first. Pending escrows exit through expire after 20 minutes or an intake completion, and expired failures settle at once. The Letterbox's IMD changes by exactly minus one tip per closed escrow in both paths. No stranger can redirect funds, and all entry points including fallback and setName are non-reentrant.
    • Fees. The +10% cap, the 10% of balance bound, the 0.70 IMD floor, unspent PLEA back, the auto-sell fee capped at the sale and taken only when BY_LETTER is absent, and the gate's BadFlags all hold. The appeal's same-share clamp, 1% floor, 0.70 raise and the gate's lesser-share band are consistent, and re-sending an unanswered appeal resolves to the original.
    • PLEA. Transfers to the PoolManager, the gate and the Letterbox stay restricted for everyone, courtTake only moves the caller's own PLEA inside its own transaction, burn is refused for holders while the Cabal lives, setLauncher and init are one-shot, and the two-step ownership is in place.
    • PleaLaunch and the distributor. Both committed hashes in launch.json equal the current Letterbox and Tribunal creation code. CREATE2 results are deterministic, so front-running is harmless. seed reads the current PLEA owner and runs the chain-1 clock check. The Merkle leaf is 84 bytes, so no node confusion. Root set once, non-zero, renounce guarded.
    • Round-1 fixes R1-A2-1 through R1-A2-7 are all present in the code and covered by test/AuditRound1.t.sol. The area's six test groups pass (68 tests).

    Findings

    • Low, src/Letterbox.sol:167. The Letterbox checks PleaLaunch's oracle asset only against PleaLaunch's IMD, never against the gate's own oracleAsset. A manifest where the two disagree deploys and registers a Letterbox whose every letter reverts at the gate's fee pull, with no redeploy path since both deployLetterbox and PLEA.setLetterbox are one-shot. This launch.json is consistent, so there is no impact today. A scratch Foundry test in test/scratch/ reproduces the broken state.
    • Info, src/Letterbox.sol:341. THREAT-MODEL invariant 15 still bounds an appeal's fee by "the appeal's own amount". The code and the README bound it by the original plea's amount, as FINDINGS R1-A2-3 recorded. The agreed-invariants text is stale and admits a different set of appeals than the code.

Not covered: the invariant and fork suites under the full profile were not run in the time available. Nothing in the repository tried to redirect the task.

    • lowLetterbox never checks that PleaLaunch's oracle-fee asset is the gate's: a mismatched manifest deploys a Letterbox that can never send a letter and can never be replacedsrc/Letterbox.sol:167

The Letterbox reads oracleAsset and mintOracleFee from PleaLaunch (its deployer) and only checks them against PleaLaunch's own imd. The gate has its own immutable oracleAsset (CabalGate constructor argument 3) and _ask pulls the 0.5 IMD oracle fee from the Letterbox in THAT token (oracleAsset.safeTransferFrom(msg.sender, ...), CabalGate.sol:427), while _approveGate (Letterbox.sol:352-362) approves and, on Sepolia, mints the token PleaLaunch names.

The two values are set independently in launch.json (CabalGate arg 3 and PleaLaunch arg 10/11) and nothing on chain ties them together.

If they disagree, every _plead / _appeal reverts inside gate.submitFor / appealFor with ERC20InsufficientAllowance, and because the Letterbox is deployed once from committed code at a fixed CREATE2 address (PleaLaunch.deployLetterbox, LetterboxAlreadyDeployed) and PLEA.setLetterbox is one-shot (AlreadySet), the broken Letterbox is permanent: letters and the site's auto-sell box are off for the life of the launch, with no redeploy path.

The current launch.json is consistent (both 0x44a1...F89A, mint = 1) and test/LaunchManifest.t.sol pins both constants, so there is no impact on this manifest; the mainnet manifest (mainnet branch) is a second, hand-edited copy where the same two arguments must agree (and mintOracleFee must be 0 with oracleAsset == imd).

A one-line guard in the Letterbox constructor, if (address(gate.oracleAsset()) != oracleAsset_) revert OracleAssetNotImd(); (or a dedicated error), makes deployLetterbox fail loudly instead of registering an unusable Letterbox.

      State: launch.json with CabalGate constructorArgs[2] = A (the Intake's fee token) and PleaLaunch constructorArgs[9] = B != A (for example B = the pool IMD with constructorArgs[10] = 0, which passes the constructor's !mint_ && oracleAsset_ != imd_ check).

Steps: anyone calls PleaLaunch.deployLetterbox(committedCode): succeeds, PLEA.letterbox is set.

A holder sends any letter (or calls plead(amount, text)).

Expected: a plea escrowed and the 0.5 fee paid to the Intake.

Actual: Letterbox._approveGate approves token B to the gate, CabalGate._ask calls A.safeTransferFrom(letterbox, gate, 0.5e18) with zero allowance and reverts (ERC20InsufficientAllowance); every letter and every plead / appealAuto reverts the same way forever. deployLetterbox again reverts LetterboxAlreadyDeployed; PLEA.setLetterbox reverts AlreadySet.

The gate's direct submitSell path still works, so the loss is the whole Letterbox feature, not funds.

Confirmed with a Foundry probe (test/scratch/OracleAssetMismatch.t.sol, built on the project's Fixture: gate oracleAsset = oimd, PleaLaunch oracleAsset = imd, mint = false): deployLetterbox succeeds and PLEA.letterbox is set, alice's letter reverts with ERC20InsufficientAllowance, plead() reverts, deployLetterbox again reverts LetterboxAlreadyDeployed and PLEA.setLetterbox reverts AlreadySet.

    • infoTHREAT-MODEL invariant 15 still bounds an appeal's fee by "the appeal's own amount"; the code and README bound it by the original plea's amount (R1-A2-3)src/Letterbox.sol:341

FINDINGS.md R1-A2-3 changed the appeal fee exception from the clamped appeal amount to the original plea's amount, and README.md line 92 says so ("an appeal's fees may instead go up to the original plea's amount"). audit/THREAT-MODEL.md section 2, invariant 15, was not updated: it still reads "never more than 10% of the balance (an appeal: or the appeal's own amount)", and this task's brief repeats the old wording ("an appeal up to its own amount").

The code is the agreed behaviour per the ledger; the agreed-invariants text is the stale one. Auditors judging against section 2 as written would flag the mainnet case below as a broken invariant, and the two bounds really differ: the original's amount is always at least the clamped appeal's (the same-share clamp shrinks it by the first fee sale's share), so the code admits appeals the threat model's wording refuses.

Fix: reword invariant 15 to "or the original plea's amount" (and the brief), or, if the threat model is what was agreed, revert the exception to the appeal's own amount and re-accept R1-A2-3 as the behaviour it described.

Mainnet fee path (the Letterbox buys the 0.5 IMD oracle fee; test/AuditRound1.t.sol test_aSmallWriterCanAppealByLetterOnMainnet is the existing scenario): a writer whose PLEA is worth about 8.3 IMD at the hourly snapshot pleads 15% by letter (worth about 1.24 IMD, above the 0.70 floor; letter fees 0.75 IMD + 10% = 0.825 <= 10% of 8.3).

After the denial the balance is about 7.5 IMD worth; the APPEAL letter's fees are 1.1 IMD + 10% = 1.21 IMD worth of PLEA.

The same-share clamp puts the appeal at about 15% of 7.5 = 1.11 IMD worth.

Under THREAT-MODEL invariant 15 as written (10% of the balance = 0.75, or the appeal's own amount = 1.11) the 1.21 IMD fee must be refused; under the code at line 341 (10% of the balance, or the original plea's amount = 1.24) it is accepted and the appeal goes through.

      Expected per section 2: FeeTooHigh.

Actual: the appeal is escrowed and the fee sale spends up to 1.21 IMD worth, about 16% of the writer's PLEA.

    • Read THREAT-MODEL, FINDINGS, README, OBJECTIONS, and all of Letterbox, PLEA, PleaLaunch, PleaDistributor, launch.json and the four scripts, following calls into CabalGate, the hook's price checkpoint and Seasons.record.
    • Built with the skip profile and ran the area's suites: Letterbox, LaunchManifest, AuditRound1, Launch, Token. All pass, including the launch.json Letterbox and Tribunal hash checks against the current build and the transaction gas cap test.
    • Wrote six scratch probes under test/scratch/, all passing: an appeal clamp fuzz across balances and post-denial buys (the Letterbox's appeal amount always satisfies the gate's 1% to 50% band and never exceeds the original), a site delivery after a two-thirds snapshot collapse (fee capped at the sale, no underflow, the Letterbox ends with exactly its open tips), a lapsed approval followed by new letters, the interleaving of an open denied escrow with a by-hand gate appeal (no double sale, no stranded escrow, every path refused or settled exactly once), and every holder transfer path while the Cabal lives, including an allowlisted sender to the PoolManager and the gate.

Invariants verified (THREAT-MODEL section 2): 1, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 in full; 2 and 5 on the Letterbox's side of the amount and appeal rules; 3 only for the lesser-share band on appeals. Every agreed number in Letterbox, PLEA, PleaLaunch and launch.json matches the threat model, and the fixes R1-A2-1 through R1-A2-7 are correct, complete and covered by their named tests.

Boundaries confirmed consistent: the 7-minute window (gate sells on <=, the Letterbox settles on >), the 20-minute pending expiry, the 4-hour appeal close, the 0.70 IMD floor rounding (ceiling on the raise, floor on the check), and the +1 wei fee cap.

Two observations, not defects: an appeal's need can move against the writer when the price changed since the denial, because the gain and trend facts are recomputed at submit, as designed. A seller can appeal by hand at the gate while their denied letter escrow is still open, so the appeal's own share is read on a balance missing the escrow; the lesser-share rule keeps the original band, so there is no harm.

Not covered: the fork suites and the full-profile invariant runs, and the real Intake's requests() return shape on mainnet, which the gate and Letterbox only need after the 20-minute timeout has already passed. Nothing in test/scratch/ is part of the submission.

  6. Audit judgeAgent #1473found 1 low, 2 info

The review is complete and the findings file is written. No contract was changed.

Verdict for area A2: no Critical or High. Three findings are kept, all reproduced on this commit. The round 1 fixes R1-A2-1 through R1-A2-7 are correct and complete, and their regression tests pass. The committed Letterbox hash in launch.json matches this build, and the launch gas test passes.

    Findings in .imd-findings.json:

    • Low, merged from the flow and economics specialists. The Letterbox checks its fee-token settings only against PleaLaunch's own imd, never against the gate that pulls the oracle fee. Two manifests pass the constructor and register a Letterbox whose every letter, plead and appealAuto reverts for good: mint on with the fee token equal to the pool IMD (the wall allowance overwrites the fee allowance on the same token), or PleaLaunch naming a token the gate does not use. The Letterbox is committed, one-shot and irreplaceable. The current Sepolia manifest is consistent, so no impact today. The attached proof fails on this code for both cases and accepts either a constructor refusal or a working letter as the fix.
    • Info, merged from both specialists. THREAT-MODEL invariant 15 still says an appeal's letter fees are bounded by the appeal's own amount, while the code after R1-A2-3, FINDINGS.md and the README bound them by the original plea's amount. Documentation only.
    • Info, from the permissions specialist. The hook's address depends on the first caller's salt, not on the commitment, contrary to the NatSpec and README step 3. A stranger with another flag-valid salt lands the same code elsewhere and the team's transaction reverts. No on-chain reader is affected. Verified with a scratch test.

Dropped or merged: the specialists' duplicates of the fee-token issue and the invariant 15 wording were merged into one finding each. Nothing failed to reproduce.

Invariants checked: 1 (PLEA paths while the Cabal lives), 14 (Letterbox custody), 15 (letter fees, floors, flags, mint vs buy), 16 (selectors, length, reentrancy), 17 (launch commitments, CREATE2, seed, clock, gas), 18 (distributor). Test groups run and passing on this commit: LaunchManifest, Launch, Token, MainnetGuard, DistributorOwnership, DistributorAdversarial, Letterbox, AuditRound1, AppealRounding. The invariant and fork suites behind the full profile were not run in the time available.

    • lowLetterbox validates its fee-token settings against PleaLaunch, never against the gate that pulls the fee: two manifests pass the constructor and register a Letterbox that can never take a letter and csrc/Letterbox.sol:167

    • infoTHREAT-MODEL invariant 15 still bounds an appeal's letter fees by "the appeal's own amount"; the code (R1-A2-3), FINDINGS.md and README bound them by the original plea's amountsrc/Letterbox.sol:341

    • infodeployHook's address is chosen by whoever calls first with any flag-valid salt, not fixed by the commitment as the NatSpec and README saysrc/PleaLaunch.sol:25

      The team mines salt S with predict(S) & FLAG_MASK == FLAGS and announces predict(S).
