PAPER DESK v3: research Papertrade (papertrade.xyz) in depth and invent a NEW, original trading indicator for entering and exiting BTC and ETH trades at 100x leverage on Papertrade, then build it into the PAPER DESK site.

Context. Papertrade is a synthetic perps exchange on HyperEVM: positions are priced at Hyperliquid's BBO mid, up to 1000x leverage, with asymmetric price impact, a mint curve that pays PAPER token emissions on trades, staking dividends, an LP/solvency queue and liquidations. Docs: https://docs.papertrade.xyz (read every page: how/architecture, how/asymmetric-impact, how/pricing-bbo, how/mint-curve, how/risk, how/solvency-queue, learn/trades-pricing, learn/wins-losses, learn/liquidations, learn/paper-emissions, learn/staking-dividends, learn/lp-queue, paper/overview, intro/faq). At 100x a 1% adverse move is a full loss of margin, so the indicator is about timing and invalidation inside sub-1% moves, and about whether Papertrade's own mechanics (fees on wins, PAPER minted on losses or wins, impact, bust rules) change the edge.

Data our backend serves (same-origin, GET only; the existing client in src/api.ts already covers markets, candles, accounts). Add typed client methods and mock-mode data for these two new routes:

GET /api/markets/:symbol/liquidation-map?range=1|2|5|10|25 -> {symbol, rangePct, from, to, asOf, buckets:[150 x {lo, hi, longUsd, shortUsd, longCount, shortCount}], below:{longUsd, shortUsd, longCount, shortCount}, above:{...}} : Papertrade's live resting liquidation levels (notional USD) across +/- rangePct of the current price. Live snapshot only; no history.

GET /api/protocol/summary -> {asOf, tvlUsd, marginUsd, lpUsd, queueUsd, openPositions, lifetimeVolumeUsd}

Candles: GET /api/candles?symbol=BTC|ETH&tf=1m|5m|15m|1h|4h|1d&limit<=1000 returns {t,o,h,l,c,v}, t in unix seconds, from a liquid perp feed that tracks Hyperliquid closely.

Hard requirements for the indicator: genuinely new (not a renamed RSI/MACD/BB/SuperTrend/Ichimoku/TD/Stoch/volume MA or a trivial combination); give it a name; computed only from bar-closed data with no lookahead or repainting (state which bar a signal confirms on); deterministic pure TypeScript functions in their own module folder src/signal/ with exhaustive vitest tests; a candle-only core that works on history, plus an optional live layer that uses the Papertrade liquidation map (only on the latest bar, clearly marked live-only because there is no liquidation history).

Saved nine verified findings—4 high, 5 medium—in .imd-findings.json. Website files are unchanged.

The high findings concern unresolved positions permitting another entry, actionable signals surviving live vetoes, historical entry markers repainting, and missing payout-scenario/builder-fee sensitivity.

All 158 tests, TypeScript checks and the production build pass. Chromium and WebKit interactions pass at 320, 390 and 1440px. The taste failure is monospace prose, retained for the requested Bloomberg style. External documentation could not be re-fetched; research coverage was checked against the supplied artifact.

    • highbug: an unresolved data gap releases the one-position locksrc/signal/backtest.ts:121

Now: simulate() marks a holding interrupted by missing candles UNRESOLVED_GAP and sets exitIndex, but runBacktest() treats that non-closed trade as an exit and permits another candidate after cooldown. signalState() can consequently advertise a fresh LONG while the earlier position has no observed exit.

Change to: retain the position lock for every status other than CLOSED, keep gap risk explicitly unresolved in the current state, and do not start cooldown until an actual exit is established.

Why: the required exact research implementation (§4.2 and §4.7) permits one position per symbol and explicitly says missing observations cannot resolve existing trade risk.

1440px (also pure-function reproduction, independent of width): use the existing fixtures: first=extend(longSetup(), [[100.06,100.1,100.04,100.08]]); second=longSetup().map(b=>({...b,t:b.t+40*60})); candles=[...first,...second].

Evaluate computeErl with symbol BTC, timeframeSec 60, nowSec=candles.at(-1).t+60, then runBacktest with papertradeProfile("BTC").

Actual: candidates at indices 26 and 54, first trade UNRESOLVED_GAP with exitIndex 27 and exitTime null, pending.index 54, and signalState(...).state LONG/phase pending.

Expected: unresolved first position blocks the second entry; no new pending plan until its exit is known.

Append {t:second.at(-1).t+60,o:100.06,h:100.1,l:100.04,c:100.08,v:10} and evaluate after its close: actual trades become [UNRESOLVED_GAP at fillIndex 27, OPEN at fillIndex 55], proving that two unresolved positions are permitted.

    • highfidelity: live vetoes never remove the actionable LONG or SHORT entry statesrc/components/SignalPanel.tsx:20

Now: the headline state and fill-window instruction come directly from the candle-only simulation, even when liveAssessment is VETO, UNKNOWN, RANGE INSUFFICIENT or PAYOUT RISK. A failed protocol-summary request leaves a green LONG, confidence and next-bar fill instructions; only the smaller Live veto row changes. No explicit candle-only mode or core-only label explains the contradiction.

Change to: keep the historical core candidate, but separate it from current entry eligibility. For any blocking or unknown live result, show "Core LONG · NO NEW ENTRY" (or SHORT), replace the fill instruction with the specific veto/unknown reason, and label any explicit candle-only research choice.

Why: research §5 explicitly requires that missing/stale/invalid live data preserve the core candidate but do not present an actionable entry in the live-enabled view, and that the live veto actually blocks new entries.

1440×900 Chromium, F1: fix Date.now to 1800000030 seconds; serve longSetup(60) shifted so its final bar opens at 1799999940 (confirmed at 1800000000, expires 1800000060).

Return a valid fresh 150-bucket ±1% map centered at 100.06; put $50,000 of long mass per bucket immediately below entry; use summary {asOf:1800000030,tvlUsd:2000000,marginUsd:500000,lpUsd:1000000,queueUsd:0,openPositions:10,lifetimeVolumeUsd:10000000}.

      Paste 0x1111111111111111111111111111111111111111.

Actual BTC headline LONG, "Confirmed at bar close · fill window is the next bar", MEDIUM score 1.55 and stop 99.9300 remain beside Live veto VETO.

Repeat with /api/protocol/summary returning HTTP 503: same entry presentation remains and row merely reads UNKNOWN, with no summary-error reason.

Expected: clearly blocked/non-actionable live entry in both cases while retaining a separately labeled historical core candidate.

    • highfidelity: historical entry markers repaint when the next bar fails fill checkssrc/components/Chart.tsx:389

Now: ERL entry arrows are drawn from backtest trades and the currently pending fill, rather than immutable core candidates. A confirmed arrow is visible while pending, then disappears from its historical bar when a future next-open fill is skipped for drift. The underlying candidate, score and stop have not changed.

Change to: draw confirmed core candidates directly from erl.candidates on supported timeframes; represent fill acceptance/skips separately without removing or relocating those historical arrows. Keep execution-only exits attached to the simulated trades.

Why: the brief explicitly requires no lookahead or repainting, and research §4.8 separates immutable candidate signals from later execution results.

1440×900 Chromium, F1 BTC/1m Signal on: return the existing longSetup(60), with its final bar shifted to t=1799999940 and page clock 1800000030.

Observed markers().filter(m=>m.text==="ERL") contains one arrow at 1799999940.

Now append the following closed bar {t:1800000000,o:100.09,h:100.15,l:100.04,c:100.1,v:10}, advance clock to 1800000061 and reload/reselect 1m.

      Actual zero ERL arrows.

Pure recomputation confirms the original candidate remains at index 26 with identical score 1.5535980774434677 and stop 99.929988; only runBacktest changes pending 26 to skipped reason FILL_DRIFT.

Expected the confirmed historical arrow to remain; the rejected future fill must be separate context.

    • highfidelity: the required payout-scenario disclosure and builder-fee sensitivity are missingsrc/components/Backtest.tsx:103

Now: the UI always runs papertradeProfile(symbol) with the default zero builder fee and displays one set of results. The profile's papertrade.xyz scenario label and verified:false flag never reach F1 or F3, and there is no 0.5% builder-fee sensitivity despite support for that profile in the pure module.

Change to: display "papertrade.xyz documented defaults · economics unverified · builder 0%" beside the results and the required comparison using papertradeProfile(symbol, 0.005), recalculating fees and entry gates rather than applying an arbitrary haircut to the final total.

Why: the exact research specification §4.6 permits the zero-builder assumption only for a clearly labeled papertrade.xyz scenario and explicitly requires the 0.5% builder sensitivity alongside it; these are deliverable UI disclosures, not information the requester must supply.

1440×900 Chromium: open ?mock=1&address=0x1111111111111111111111111111111111111111, select F3 ANALYSIS and inspect the ERL backtest and explainer, then F1 signal panel.

Actual one set of performance numbers; neither surface contains "builder", an economics-unverified label, or a 0.5% comparison.

Backtest calls analyseErl once, which calls papertradeProfile(symbol) at useErl.ts:35, and never evaluates the existing 0.005 option.

For the repository longSetup BTC target, the zero-builder payout is 0.32611212988057475 of margin, while the 0.5% scenario is that value ×0.975/0.98; the required sensitivity is therefore not a zero or unavailable value that could justify omitting it.

    • mediumbug: an opening gap past target is incorrectly settled as a stop losssrc/signal/backtest.ts:183

Now: the simulator processes only adverse opening gaps before applying its stop-first high/low rule. When a holding bar opens beyond the standing target and subsequently trades below the stop, it records a losing STOP even though the opening observation already reached the target.

Change to: after opening bust/stop checks, handle a favorable open at or beyond the target by settling at the frozen target price before checking the intrabar low/high; do not improve the fill to the favorable open without an explicit execution model. Mirror the rule for shorts.

Why: research §8 requires opening gaps to be processed first, and §4.7 freezes a standing target. Stop-first resolves unknown intrabar ordering, not an already-observed opening target touch.

      1440px / F3, or run the pure functions with the existing fixture: candles=extend(longSetup(), [[100.06,100.1,100.04,100.08],[100.6,100.7,99.9,100.6]]). computeErl({symbol:"BTC",timeframeSec:60,nowSec:candles.at(-1).t+60}), then runBacktest(...,60,papertradeProfile("BTC")).

Actual trade: fill 100.06, target 100.450036, second holding open 100.6, reason STOP, exit 99.929988, pnl -0.129934 of margin.

Expected: TARGET at 100.450036, a profitable result, before considering that bar's later low. mirror(candles) reproduces the error for a short (gap open 99.4 below target 99.550036, but STOP at 100.069988).

    • mediumbug: rejected candle data is presented as a valid FLAT signal and zero-result backtestsrc/useErl.ts:35

Now: analyseErl passes an INVALID core result directly into runBacktest and signalState. The panel renders FLAT / No active plan, while F3 shows 0 trades, +0.0% net and 0.0% drawdown, even though the whole series was rejected. The core diagnostic is never surfaced by either view.

Change to: propagate INVALID and its first diagnostic to the existing signal and backtest error surfaces, suppress numeric results for a rejected dataset, and provide the existing refresh/retry affordance. Keep a genuine valid zero-trade run distinct.

Why: research §4.2 and §6 require invalid series rejection, unavailable numerical values and explicit status codes, rather than zero-filled success; the visitor must be able to distinguish no signal from no usable data.

1440×900 Chromium: intercept /api/candles and return longSetup(step), shifted to the appropriate regular grid immediately before now, but set candles[3].v=-1.

The negative volume is finite, so the existing chart still renders; computeErl returns {status:"INVALID",diagnostics:[{code:"INVALID_ROW",index:3,...}]}.

Load a valid public address and inspect F1, then F3.

Actual F1: both markets FLAT, "No active plan"; F3: Trades 0, Net +0.0%, Max drawdown 0.0%, "No ERL-100 trades in the loaded candles."

      No invalid-data explanation appears.

Expected: invalid candle row 3 displayed and results unavailable, never a successful zero-return backtest.

    • mediumbug: failed candle refreshes leave an unqualified active signal with no visible errorsrc/components/SignalPanel.tsx:38

Now: useErl retains the last candles and stores an error after a failed poll, but MarketCard hides m.error whenever a prior state exists. An HTTP 503 therefore leaves LONG / Signal plan active and confidence unchanged, with no failed-refresh or stale-data message and no signal retry. The header can continue to say LIVE because it tracks account endpoints separately.

Change to: always render the existing candle error alongside retained values, mark their last successful candle time and stale status, and expose a retry for the signal candles. Preserve the old data only as explicitly stale context.

Why: the review requires failure/retry states to say only what the app knows, and the brief asks for the current per-market signal, not an undated cached plan disguised as current.

1440×900 Chromium: load a valid account with /api/candles returning extend(longSetup(), [[100.06,100.1,100.04,100.08]]) shifted so its last bar has just closed.

F1 reads LONG / Signal plan active / holding 1/6.

Keep market/account/live routes successful but change only /api/candles to HTTP 503; wait over 15 seconds for useErl's next candle poll (observed at 15.5 s).

Actual signal-panel text before and after is identical and contains neither HTTP 503 nor an error/stale/retry notice; header remains LIVE.

Source stores "HTTP 503" in m.error at useErl.ts:112 but the quoted rendering branch never shows it once st exists.

Expected: retained plan is visibly stale with the failed candle refresh and a recovery action.

    • mediumbug: expired liquidation snapshots are still displayed as live cluster contextsrc/useErl.ts:173

Now: freshness is checked only inside assessErlLive, which is called only for a pending candidate. nearestClusters runs on every structurally valid map regardless of its age; with no new candidate, a two-minute-old snapshot still renders dollar clusters under the "live only" footer and "No candidate on the latest bar". The protocol-summary error and age are likewise hidden in this state.

Change to: apply the existing freshness checks independently of candidate existence before exposing live cluster context; show UNKNOWN / STALE with the snapshot time and reason, or explicitly label retained clusters as stale. Do not present expired data as current live context.

Why: research §5 rejects maps older than 15 seconds and requires missing, stale or invalid routes to produce UNKNOWN; the required always-visible panel promises live liquidation-map context.

1440×900 Chromium: freeze the page clock at 1800000030 seconds.

Return valid closed candles with a finished signal (longSetup plus a target bar and one later bar, shifted to end immediately before now).

Return a structurally valid 150-bucket ±1% map centered at 100.06 with asOf=1799999910, i.e. 120 seconds old, and $50,000 long mass in each bucket 55 through 74.

      Load a valid address.

Actual both cards FLAT, Long liq.

99.7998 / $1.00M, Live veto "No candidate on the latest bar"; footer "live only" and snapshot 07:58 while current clock is 08:00:30; no STALE/UNKNOWN message.

      Existing freshness(1799999910,1800000030) returns STALE.

Expected: stale/unknown live context regardless of whether a core candidate exists.

    • mediumbug: the chart closes sampled quote candles instead of reconciling the candle feedsrc/components/Chart.tsx:532

Now: Chart loads candle history only on mount or selection changes, then permanently derives new bars and closed OHLC from five-second market-mark samples. ERL on the chart runs on that synthetic history, while the signal panel refreshes real feed candles every 15 seconds. The same BTC 1m selection can therefore say LONG in the panel and FLAT on the chart with no corresponding marker or stop line.

Change to: feed the ERL chart layer the same validated closed candle snapshots as the panel, or reconcile the chart history from /api/candles when a bar closes; keep quote sampling confined to the forming-price display.

Why: the brief requires the research indicator on the F1 chart and consistent bar-closed signals from the provided candle feed. Sparse quote samples cannot reconstruct completed OHLC or its wick ledger.

1440×900 Chromium, same BTC/1m in panel and chart: freeze time at 1800000030.

Return longSetup(60) with final confirmation bar opening at 1800000000 (still forming, final feed close 100.06); return market mark 100.04.

      Select chart 1m.

Advance time to 1800000061, return the unchanged completed feed bar {t:1800000000,o:100.04,h:100.07,l:100.03,c:100.06,v:10} plus the new forming bar, and wait 16 s for normal polls.

Actual panel LONG / score 1.55 / stop 99.9300, but chart legend "ERL-100 · 0 signals in loaded 1m candles · current FLAT" and zero ERL markers.

Inspecting the chart data shows its supposedly closed bar instead has c=100.04,l=100.03, followed by a manufactured v=0 bar; no post-roll candle request belongs to Chart.

Expected the same confirmed LONG marker and stop from the completed feed bar on both surfaces.

    Previous findingResult and evidence
Unresolved gap releases position lockFixed. Candidates 26 and 54 produce one unresolved trade, no pending entry, and retain the lock after appending another bar.
Live veto leaves actionable entryFixed. VETO, summary HTTP 503 and payout risk show “Core LONG · NO NEW ENTRY” with the reason.
Historical entry markers repaintFixed. The ERL arrow remains at 1799999940 after the next fill is rejected for drift.
Economics disclosure and builder sensitivity absentFixed. F1/F3 disclose unverified documented defaults; F3 recomputes both scenarios. Fixture results show +32.6% versus +32.4%.
Opening gap through target becomes stop lossFixed. Long and mirrored short settle at their frozen targets.
Invalid candles become FLAT/zero resultsFixed. Negative volume at row 3 produces INVALID DATA and withholds F3 results.
Failed refresh hides errorFixed. HTTP 503 displays STALE, the last good candle time and a working retry.
Expired map appears liveFixed. A 120-second-old snapshot shows STALE/UNKNOWN and withholds cluster values.
Chart uses sampled quotes for closed signalsFixed. After the bar closes, chart and panel both report LONG with the feed-derived signal.
