Audit IMDEX5 (src/Imdex5.sol), an index of the five largest IMD-paired tokens on Ethereum. Read THREAT_MODEL.md first: it lists the actors, the six invariants, the accepted behaviour that is not a

finding, and the severity scale. The code is launch 1668's deployed and audited contract with one change: mint(shares, maxImdIn, minShares) reverts TooFewShares when fewer than minShares shares would be

issued, and every buy rolls back. Check that change and its interaction with short fills, taxed coins (SwarmCity takes 2% on transfer), hooks that revert, burn gas or re-enter, and the refund of unspent IMD.

Check that no path issues shares for nothing, dilutes holders, leaves IMD unaccounted, or lets a caller keep value that belongs to holders. Report every finding with its severity, a reproduction, and the line.

135 unit tests and 8 mainnet fork tests are in test/ (fork tests need --fork-url).

Four agents audited the code as it is at d376aca, each in one area, and a judge reproduced, merged and ranked what they found, then read the code once more itself. Nothing in the code was changed or deployed.

  • 1.mediumA residual coin whose pool is dead or thin blocks mint across every later rebalance, not until the next onesrc/Imdex5.sol:399

                (uint256 amountIn, uint256 out) = _swap(coin.token, coin.hook, true, need, true, false);

    THREAT_MODEL.md accepts that 'a coin whose pool dies blocks mint until the next rebalance'.

    The code has no such recovery. _mintMore (lines 394-406) iterates every entry of _coins, including the residuals kept beyond listCount, and buys each with an unguarded exact-output _swap at line 399 (no try/catch, no gas cap, no price limit). _rebalance step (1) only _trySells a leaver with a 2% stop and step (2) keeps it as a residual whenever held > 0 (line 466); a dead pool fails every _trySell, so the residual survives every rebalance and every mint for the life of the index reverts in that coin's swap (or BuyFailed when the pool returns nothing, or out-of-gas when its hook burns gas).

    A thin pool is the realistic variant, since coins leave the top five precisely when liquidity leaves: the buy delivers a sliver, minted collapses to shares*out/need, a mint with the 97% floor reverts TooFewShares and one without a floor pays the four list coins in full for a sliver of shares. Only liquidity returning to the abandoned pool or every holder redeeming to zero supply restores mint; redeem and redeemToImd keep working.

    Who can cause it: the hook or the LPs of any coin that was ever in the list (hooks and pools are trusted for nothing). Medium under the brief's scale: a core function blocked by someone else, with the documented recovery path absent. The author's own test test_residualsAreRedeemedAndBlockMintWhileTheirPoolIsDead pins the blocking and the recovery when the pool comes back, never the recovery by rebalance the threat model promises.

    Fix needs a design decision: have _mintMore skip (try/catch) residual entries i >= listCount whose buy fails or short-fills, charging the minter that residual's spot value into idleImd so holders stay undiluted; or let a rebalance write off a residual whose sell has failed repeatedly by distributing it via owed; or correct THREAT_MODEL.md to say the block lasts while the abandoned pool stays dead.

    Merged from audit_flow (medium) and audit_permissions (low): same root cause, same line.

    Mocks of test/Imdex5Base.sol. alice mintFirst(1000e18); oracle delivers a four-coin list dropping tokens[4]; pm.setDead(key(tokens[4]), true); rebalance() -> coins().length == 5, listCount == 4, held[tokens[4]] > 0. bob mint(1e18, 100e18, 0) reverts 'dead pool'.

    Then two further full cycles (warp +7d, fund, ask, deliver the same four-coin list, submit, rebalance): coins().length stays 5 and mint(1e18, 100e18, 0) still reverts 'dead pool'; alice redeem(1e18) succeeds.

    Thin variant: pm.setMaxIn(key(tokens[4]), 1e12) instead of setDead; after rebalance mint(100e18, 2000e18, 97e18) reverts TooFewShares(4902441415605); mint(100e18, 2000e18, 0) issues 4,902,441,415,605 wei of shares for 82.16 IMD paid; after another cycle and rebalance the residual is still held and the floored mint still reverts.

    Expected per THREAT_MODEL.md: mint usable after the next rebalance.

    Verified by test/scratch/Judge.t.sol (test_deadResidualBlocksMintAcrossRebalances, test_thinResidualPoolStarvesMintAcrossRebalances, both pass on this code) and the attached proof, which fails with 'dead pool'.

  • 2.lowsubmit() never checks the attestation's expiry or issuedAt window although invariant 6 requires 'unexpired'src/Imdex5.sol:312

            if (!SignatureChecker.isValidSignatureNowCalldata(oracleSigner, attestationDigest(a), signature)) {

    Invariant 6 of THREAT_MODEL.md says only an answer that is signed, for this contract, unexpired and not replayed can change the list. submit verifies answerHash and calls SignatureChecker directly; it never reads a.expiresAt or a.issuedAt and bypasses the inherited OracleAttestationConsumer._verifyAttestation (src/OracleAttestation.sol:157-165) that performs exactly those checks.

    The request body asks for validForSeconds 86400, so the panel signs a one-day window, but the contract honours the delivered answer until the next ask() clears answerHash, at least 7 days later. Replay is prevented by clearing answerHash, so the impact is timing only: a submitter can hold the panel's answer and adopt a list computed for a window up to a week old.

    Low: the list is still the panel's, no value moves.

    Fix: in submit, replace the bare SignatureChecker call with _verifyAttestation(a, signature), or add 'if (block.timestamp > a.expiresAt) revert AttestationExpired(a.expiresAt);'. Merged from audit_flow and audit_permissions (identical finding).

    Mocks of test/Imdex5Base.sol. fund(2e18); ask(); the Intake delivers attestation a with issuedAt = START, expiresAt = START + 86400, agreed = 5 through onOracleResult (answerHash set). vm.warp(a.expiresAt + 5 days). bob calls submit(a, validSignature).

    Expected (invariant 6): revert AttestationExpired.

    Actual: submit succeeds, nextList().length == 3 and bob receives the 0.25 IMD reward. test/scratch/Judge.t.sol test_submitAcceptsExpiredAttestation passes on this code.

  • 3.lowQuorum is enforced only on the unsigned struct the Intake delivers; submit() adopts a signed attestation with any agreedsrc/Imdex5.sol:311

            if (answerHash == 0 || keccak256(a.answer) != answerHash) revert WrongAnswer();

    a.agreed >= MIN_AGREED is checked only in onOracleResult (line 279) on calldata the Intake supplies without any signature check. submit then verifies a signature over a separately supplied struct and binds it to the delivery only by keccak256(a.answer) == answerHash (line 311); it does not re-check a.agreed, a.quorum, a.panelSize or a.requestId == openRequest on the signed struct.

    The attestation format explicitly allows the signer to issue attestations with agreed < quorum 'for chain evidence' (src/OracleAttestation.sol:48-51). So the guarantee 'four members agreed' rests entirely on the Intake's unsigned delivery: an Intake (hard-coded, not among the threat model's actors) that delivers agreed = 5 with the answer bytes of a low-agreement signed attestation gets that list adopted, and the signed evidence on chain says 0-3 agreed.

    Low: needs a misbehaving Intake plus a low-agreement signed attestation with the exact answer.

    Fix: in submit add 'if (a.agreed < MIN_AGREED) revert BadList();' (and optionally a.requestId == openRequest) so the quorum is read from the signed struct. From audit_permissions.

    Mocks of test/Imdex5Base.sol. fund(2e18); ask().

    Step 1 as INTAKE: onOracleResult(openRequest, delivered, '') with delivered.agreed = 5 and delivered.answer = abi.encode([1282,1283,737]) -> answerHash stored.

    Step 2 as bob: submit(signed, sig) where signed has the same answer bytes, signed.agreed = 0, a different requestId and panelJobId, and sig is the oracle signer's valid signature over signed.

    Expected: revert (the signed evidence shows no quorum).

    Actual: submit succeeds and nextList().length == 3. test/scratch/Judge.t.sol test_submitAcceptsSignedAttestationWithZeroAgreed passes on this code.

  • 4.lowredeemToImd charges the 0.50% fee to the last holder, whom redeem() and invariant 4 pay in fullsrc/Imdex5.sol:442

            uint256 fee = Math.mulDiv(proceeds, FEE_BPS, BPS, Math.Rounding.Ceil);

    Invariant 4 of THREAT_MODEL.md: 'the last holder is paid in full'. _redeemToImd applies that rule only to the in-kind branch (line 422, keepBps = supply == shares ?

    BPS : BPS - FEE_BPS, used by _payInKind) and not to the IMD it pays: line 442 takes FEE_BPS of the whole of proceeds, which includes the sold coins and the last holder's entire idleImd, even when supply == shares and the supply reaches zero. redeem() (lines 205-215) pays 100% of every coin and of idleImd in the same situation.

    The 0.50% goes to feeImd, which can only ever pay the oracle price and caller rewards, so the value is not taken by anyone but is not paid to the last holder either. The natspec on lines 224-226 describes the fee on the IMD path without a last-holder exception, so this is a seam between the two redeem paths and the stated invariant rather than a loss to others. No existing test asserts feeImd at supply zero on the IMD path.

    Fix: 'uint256 fee = supply == shares ? 0 : Math.mulDiv(proceeds, FEE_BPS, BPS, Math.Rounding.Ceil);', or restrict invariant 4's last-holder clause to redeem(). From audit_math.

    Mocks of test/Imdex5Base.sol (five pools at 1,000,000 coin / 10,000 IMD). alice mintFirst(1000e18, zeros) -> supply 995e18, feeImd 5e18. alice, the only holder, redeemToImd(995e18, 0).

    Expected under invariant 4: feeImd unchanged.

    Actual: alice receives 990024999999999999995 wei IMD and feeImd rises by 4975000000000000000 wei (4.975 IMD); totalSupply, held and idleImd are 0.

    The same alice calling redeem(995e18) instead leaves feeImd unchanged and every coin and idle balance at 0. test/scratch/Judge.t.sol test_lastHolderRedeemToImdStillPaysFee and test_lastHolderRedeemInKindPaysAll pass on this code.

  • 5.infomint's 0.50% fee is charged on the buys' cost only, not on the idle IMD part; mintFirst and redeemToImd charge the whole amountsrc/Imdex5.sol:410

            uint256 fee = Math.mulDiv(cost, FEE_BPS, BPS, Math.Rounding.Ceil);

    The three fee sites use different bases. _mintFirst (line 370) takes FEE_BPS of all IMD paid in; _redeemToImd (lines 441-442) takes it of proceeds after adding idlePart; _mintMore (line 410) takes it of cost alone, so the idlePart the minter pays at line 408 carries no fee. In an index that is mostly idle (pools that could take only part of the first mint, or rebalance buys skipped) a mint pays almost no fee, and in a fully idle index none.

    The natspec at line 187 documents 'plus 0.50% of the buys' cost as fee', while launch.json speaks of 'the 0.50% fee on mints' without the qualification, and feeImd funds the weekly oracle round. No holder loses value (the idle IMD is paid at the rounded-up pro-rata amount). If a uniform fee is intended, use Math.mulDiv(cost + idlePart, FEE_BPS, BPS, Math.Rounding.Ceil); otherwise align the launch notes with the natspec.

    Merged from audit_permissions and audit_math (identical finding).

    Mocks of test/Imdex5Base.sol. setMaxIn(100e18) on all five pools; alice mintFirst(1000e18) -> supply 995e18, idleImd 495e18; clear maxIn. bob mint(100e18, 2000e18, 0).

    Actual: bob pays 100807596837305238472 wei IMD and feeImd rises by 254024144869215292 wei (0.25 IMD, 0.50% of the buys only).

    0.50% of everything bob paid would be 504037984186526192 wei. test/scratch/Judge.t.sol test_mintFeeExcludesIdlePart passes on this code and logs these values.

  • 6.infominShares above shares is rejected only after every buy has runsrc/Imdex5.sol:407

            if (minted < minShares) revert TooFewShares(minted);

    minted starts at shares and only decreases, so any call with minShares > shares is certain to end in TooFewShares, but the check sits after the loop at lines 395-406: the caller first pays for the transferFrom of maxImdIn (line 194), the unlock and up to five exact-output swaps, each running the pool's hook, before the revert. Nothing is lost and no holder is affected; it is a gas and clarity note and a sharp edge for integrators.

    Fix: in mint(), next to the shares == 0 guard at line 193, add 'if (minShares > shares) revert TooFewShares(shares);'. Merged from audit_flow and audit_math (identical finding).

    Mocks of test/Imdex5Base.sol after alice mintFirst(1000e18). bob mint(100e18, 2000e18, 100e18 + 1) reverts TooFewShares(100e18), which is only reachable after the loop.

    With pool 0 set dead the same call reverts 'dead pool' instead, showing the swaps run before the check.

    Expected: an immediate revert before the IMD pull and the swaps. test/scratch/Judge.t.sol test_minSharesAboveSharesRevertsLate passes on this code.

  • 7.infoTrust assumption: a hard-coded oracle price means an Intake price above 0.5 IMD stops ask() for good (list freezes, funds unaffected)src/Imdex5.sol:32

        uint256 public constant ORACLE_PRICE = 0.5e18;

    ask() pays the Intake exactly ORACLE_PRICE = 0.5 IMD (lines 257-266) and the index has no way to pay more or to read the Intake's price. The audit_economics specialist reports that the deployed Intake at 0xa43e6F75ee006411F79Ac1C84120606C2330DE82 has an owner-only setPrice(action, asset, amount) and reverts PriceNotMet(price, amount) when amount < price; this reviewer did not verify the Intake's source on chain, so that half is the specialist's claim.

    If it holds, raising the price of oracle.request@oracle-1 above 0.5 IMD makes every ask() revert; no new list can be delivered and the index stays on its current coins until the price is lowered. mint, redeem, redeemToImd and claim keep working, the revert rolls back the feeImd deduction, and no IMD is stranded.

    THREAT_MODEL.md lists only 'an oracle that never answers' and does not name the Intake's owner among the actors, so this is a dependency trust assumption to document, not a code defect; a fix (reading and bounding the Intake's price at ask time) would be a design decision.

    Index side, mocks of test/Imdex5Base.sol with an Intake mock that reverts PriceNotMet(price, amount) when amount < price (the behaviour the specialist attributes to the deployed Intake): etch it at INTAKE, setPrice(0.6e18), fund(2e18), bob ask().

    Expected by the threat model's reading: a request opens and bob receives 0.25 IMD.

    Actual: ask() reverts PriceNotMet(0.6e18, 0.5e18) and feeImd stays 2e18; after setPrice(0.5e18) the same ask() succeeds and feeImd becomes 1.25e18. test/scratch/Judge.t.sol test_intakePriceAboveConstantStopsAsk passes on this code.

    Not reproducible against the repository's MockIntake, which has no price.

Work

  1. Posted12 minto the first attempt
  2. Audit flowAgent #11found 1 medium, 1 low, 1 info

    The review is complete and the findings file is written. Only ignored paths changed (.imd-findings.json and test/scratch/), so git shows a clean tree.

    Outcome. The minimum-shares floor itself is correct. The check at src/Imdex5.sol:407 runs after all buys, minted only ever decreases from shares, shares issued equal minted, and a revert inside the unlock callback rolls back the IMD pull, every swap and the refund. I traced short fills, the SwarmCity 2% tax on take, hooks that revert, burn gas, leave deltas unsettled or re-enter, and the unspent-IMD refund. Invariants 1 to 5 hold on every mint, redeem and redeemToImd path I could construct. All 135 unit tests pass locally. Fork tests were not run, since no fork URL was available.

    Findings written to .imd-findings.json:

    • Medium, src/Imdex5.sol:399. A coin that leaves the list while its pool is dead becomes a residual that every later rebalance keeps, because its sell keeps failing. The mint loop buys every entry in the coin array with an unguarded swap, so mint reverts in every future cycle, not "until the next rebalance" as the threat model accepts. Redeem still works, but no new capital can enter until supply is wound down to zero. A hook author in the top five, or ordinary LP withdrawal from a dead coin, triggers it. Proof test under test/scratch/ResidualBlocksMintForever.t.sol fails on this code after two further rebalances.
    • Low, src/Imdex5.sol:312. The submit function checks the answer hash and signature only. It never reads the attestation's expiry or issued-at fields, although invariant 6 requires an unexpired answer. Verified with a scratch test: an attestation submitted five days past its expiry is adopted and rewarded.
    • Info, src/Imdex5.sol:407. A call with a floor above the requested shares can never succeed, yet it pulls IMD and runs all five swaps before reverting.

    Not findings, checked and rejected. Dilution through short fills (the per-coin minimum fraction bound holds, including the ceil on need and floor on minted), taxed coins reducing shares by the tax, idle IMD charged for issued shares only, re-entry through hooks and tokens (every state-changing entry point is guarded, the unlock callback and self-swap check their callers), IMD conservation after refund, and the last redeemer being paid in full.

    • mediumA residual coin a rebalance cannot sell blocks mint permanently, not until the next rebalancesrc/Imdex5.sol:399

      THREAT_MODEL.md accepts that 'a coin whose pool dies blocks mint until the next rebalance'. The code does not unblock it. _mintMore iterates every entry of _coins (line 394-395), including residuals beyond listCount, and buys each one with an unguarded _swap (line 399).

      A coin that left the list while its pool was dead (hook reverts for the index, or liquidity withdrawn so the swap delivers nothing) is kept as a residual by _rebalance step (2) (line 466: held > 0 after _trySell failed), and every later rebalance keeps it again because _trySell keeps failing.

      So every mint for the life of the index reverts in that coin's swap (or with BuyFailed when the pool returns zero), redeem keeps working, and new capital can never enter until every holder has redeemed to zero supply and the index is restarted with mintFirst.

      Who can trigger it: the launcher of any coin that reaches the top five (the brief says hooks are trusted for nothing; a hook can revert only for sender == Imdex5 after the index has bought it), or simply the LPs of a dead meme coin leaving its pool, which is exactly why a coin drops out of the top five. Also, each such coin grows _coins forever, which raises redeem/redeemToImd gas by up to PAY_GAS/SWAP_GAS per entry.

      Fix needs a design decision: e.g. have _mintMore skip (or try/catch and skip) residual entries i >= listCount so a dead residual cannot block the list buys (the residual's value is then not charged to the minter, which slightly favours new minters over holders in that one unsellable coin), or let a rebalance write off a residual whose sell has failed N times by distributing it pro rata via owed. Document whichever is chosen in THREAT_MODEL.

      State: mintFirst(1000e18) by alice; oracle delivers a four-coin list without coin 4; coin 4's pool is dead (mock: setDead, i.e. swap reverts; on mainnet: hook reverts or liquidity gone). rebalance() keeps coin 4 as a residual (coins().length == 5, listCount == 4).

      Expected per THREAT_MODEL: mint blocked only until the next rebalance.

      Actual: after two further cycles (ask, deliver the same four-coin list, rebalance) coins().length is still 5 and bob's mint(1e18, 100e18, 0) still reverts in coin 4's swap ('dead pool'); alice's redeem(1e18) works.

      Test test/scratch/ResidualBlocksMintForever.t.sol fails with [FAIL: dead pool] on this code.

    • lowsubmit does not check the attestation's expiry or issuedAt window although invariant 6 requires 'unexpired'src/Imdex5.sol:312

      submit verifies answerHash and the signature only; it never calls _verifyAttestation and never reads a.expiresAt or a.issuedAt. Invariant 6 in THREAT_MODEL.md says only an 'unexpired' answer can change the list.

      Replay is prevented by clearing answerHash, so the impact is limited to timing: an answer the Intake delivered can be submitted at any later time while answerHash is set, which is until the next ask (at least 7 days after the previous one), i.e. well past the attestation's 24-hour validForSeconds. The list adopted is then the one the panel computed for a window that may be a week old.

      Fix: in submit, revert when block.timestamp > a.expiresAt (and optionally apply the ISSUED_AT_TOLERANCE check), or call _verifyAttestation(a, signature) instead of the bare SignatureChecker call.

      State: fund(2e18), ask(); Intake delivers attestation a with expiresAt = issuedAt + 86400 and agreed >= 4 via onOracleResult (answerHash set). vm.warp(block.timestamp + 6 days) so block.timestamp > a.expiresAt.

      Call submit(a, validSignature).

      Expected: revert AttestationExpired (invariant 6).

      Actual: submit succeeds, _nextList is set and the caller is paid REWARD.

    • infomint performs every buy before rejecting minShares > shares, which can never passsrc/Imdex5.sol:407

      minted starts at shares and only decreases, so a call with minShares > shares always ends in TooFewShares, but only after pulling maxImdIn and executing up to five swaps against live pools. Harmless to holders (everything rolls back) but wastes the caller's gas and is a sharp edge for integrators.

      Fix: in mint(), if (minShares > shares) revert TooFewShares(shares) before the transferFrom.

      After mintFirst(1000e18): mint(100e18, 2000e18, 101e18).

      Expected: cheap early revert.

      Actual: IMD pulled, five exact-output swaps executed, then revert TooFewShares(100e18).

  3. Audit economicsAgent #293found 1 info

    The review is complete. .imd-findings.json is valid and holds one info-level note; no defect in the economic paths survived verification, so no proof tests were needed and no scratch files were created. The working tree is clean apart from ignored build output.

    What I found

    • No exploitable defect in mint, mintFirst, redeem, redeemToImd, rebalance or the refund path. The one entry in the findings file is a dependency trust assumption, not a code bug.
    • Info: the Intake's owner can freeze the list. ask() pays a hard-coded 0.5 IMD, and the deployed Intake (source verified on Sourcify) reverts PriceNotMet if its owner raises the price above that. Every later ask() then reverts, so the list can never change. Mint, redeem and fees are unaffected, and no IMD is stranded, because the Intake forwards every payment immediately and refunds nothing on failure. Anchored at src/Imdex5.sol:32.

    What I checked in depth (the assigned area)

    • The floor change. TooFewShares fires after all buys and before idle, fee and refund are computed, so a revert rolls back every buy and the pulled maxImdIn. minShares = 0 leaves behaviour unchanged. Combined with maxImdIn it bounds price per share as the README states.
    • Short fills and the taxed coin. minted is the least delivered fraction with floor rounding, need is rounded up, and held records the measured receipt. Coins bought beyond the issued fraction stay with holders, so Invariant 3 holds; the 2% tax yields about 98% of shares and a 97% floor passes.
    • Refund of unspent IMD. Balance change equals idlePart + fee exactly, so Invariant 1 holds on every mint path, including a short fill and a floor revert.
    • Hooks that revert, burn gas or re-enter. Direct _swap in mint makes those a whole-mint revert, which the threat model accepts. Re-entry into every state-changing function is blocked by the guard, swapSelf is self-only, and unlockCallback requires the manager plus an entered guard. Unsettled hook deltas are caught by the transient count check.
    • Dilution and value capture. Donated tokens never enter held, so there is no inflation attack via a dust first mint. Spot manipulation before rebalance works against the manipulator because the 2% stop is tighter than the 2.5% round-trip pool fee. Redeem rounding always favours remaining holders, and balance = held + owed is preserved on every payment path.

    Leads I closed as accepted or non-issues

    • An unsellable leftover coin blocks mint until it sells, which the README explicitly accepts. submit skipping expiresAt is likewise documented as intended.
    • The int256(amount) cast in _swap can wrap for absurd shares, but on the real PoolManager the delta cast reverts and the caller's own maxImdIn rejects the cost, so holders are never harmed.
    • Hook fees taking swap output are bounded by the caller's minImdOut or maxImdIn and are accepted by the brief.

    Coverage limits

    • Unit and fuzz suite: all 135 pass. The 8 fork tests were not run because no RPC URL was supplied.
    • Behaviour of the real SwarmCity token and real v4 partial fills was checked by reading, not by fork execution.

      The index has no way to pay more, so if the Intake owner ever raises the price of oracle.request@oracle-1 in IMD above 0.5e18, every ask() reverts, no new list can be delivered and the index stays on its current five coins forever. mint, redeem, redeemToImd and claim keep working, feeImd is untouched (the revert rolls the deduction back), and no IMD is lost or stranded: the Intake forwards every payment to payTo in the same call and refunds nothing on failure, so onOracleFailure never leaves unaccounted IMD in the index.

      This is a dependency trust assumption rather than a code defect in the index, documented here because THREAT_MODEL.md lists only 'an oracle that never answers' and the Intake's owner is not among the actors. Fixing it would mean reading priceOf from the Intake at ask time and bounding it (a design decision), not a change this review proposes.

      State: Intake owner calls setPrice(bytes32('oracle.request@oracle-1'), IMD, 0.6e18).

      Then with feeImd >= 0.75e18, 7 days since lastAsk and no open request, anyone calls Imdex5.ask().

      Expected (by the threat model's reading): a request opens and the caller receives 0.25 IMD.

      Actual: the call reverts inside IIntake.requestWithFailure with PriceNotMet(0.6e18, 0.5e18); the revert repeats on every later ask() until the Intake price is lowered again, so submit()/rebalance() can never run and the list cannot change.

      Not reproducible against the repository's MockIntake (it has no price); it follows from the Intake source lines if (amount < price) revert PriceNotMet(price, amount); and _collect(asset, amount).

  4. Audit permissionsAgent #730found 3 low, 1 info

    The review is complete and .imd-findings.json holds four substantiated findings, each with a scratch test that passes on the current code (it demonstrates the behaviour) in test/scratch/Probe.t.sol. Nothing critical or high was found, so no finding carries a proof file.

    What I checked

    • The minShares floor and its rollback: TooFewShares fires after every buy, and because _mintMore runs inside the PoolManager's unlock, the revert unwinds every swap, the IMD pull and the share mint. Short fills, the SwarmCity 2% tax, hooks that revert, burn gas, leave deltas or re-enter, and the refund of unspent IMD all behave as the threat model states. I could not find a path that issues shares for nothing, dilutes holders, or leaves IMD unaccounted.
    • Access control: every state-changing entry point was inventoried. The only guarded ones are the two Intake callbacks, unlockCallback (PoolManager plus guard-entered) and swapSelf (self only). None can be reached out of context.
    • Sandwiching rebalance is unprofitable at this pool fee: the 2% stop caps the index's volume at about 1% of reserves, below the attacker's manipulation cost at 1.25% per side.

    Findings

    1. Low, submit at line 312. The expiry the panel signed is never checked. submit calls SignatureChecker directly instead of the inherited _verifyAttestation, so an attestation can be adopted days after expiresAt. Invariant 6 says "unexpired".
    2. Low, onOracleResult at line 279. The quorum check runs only on the unsigned struct the Intake delivers. submit adopts a signed attestation with agreed = 0 as long as the answer bytes match. The four-member guarantee rests on the Intake, not the signature.
    3. Low, _mintMore at line 399. A delisted residual coin whose pool is dead or thin keeps mint blocked (with a floor) or sliver-filled (without one) across every later rebalance. The threat model says "until the next rebalance", but rebalance keeps the coin whenever it cannot sell it. The probe shows 82 IMD paid for 4.9e-6 shares without a floor.
    4. Info, line 410. mint charges 0.50% on buy cost only, while mintFirst and redeemToImd charge on the whole including idle IMD. In an idle-heavy index a mint is almost fee-free. Documented in the natspec, no holder loses.

    Not reported because the brief accepts them: dead-pool mint blocking while a coin is listed, holders keeping coins bought beyond the issued fraction, and the 2% tax costing a minter about 2% of shares.

    Limits. Review was against the mocks and the unit suite (135 passing). Fork tests were not run since no fork URL is available here. Slither was not run as instructed.

    • lowsubmit() does not check the signed attestation's expiry: an expired panel answer still changes the list (invariant 6 says 'unexpired')src/Imdex5.sol:312

      Invariant 6 in THREAT_MODEL.md states that only an answer that is signed, for this contract, unexpired and not replayed can change the list. submit verifies the signature and the answer hash but never compares a.expiresAt / a.issuedAt with block.timestamp. The inherited OracleAttestationConsumer._verifyAttestation (src/OracleAttestation.sol:157-165) does exactly that check, but submit calls SignatureChecker directly and bypasses it.

      The request body asks for validForSeconds: 86400, so the panel signs a one-day window; the contract honours the answer for up to 7 days (until the next ask() clears answerHash).

      Trust gap: the validity window the panel put under its signature is not enforced by the consumer. Impact is limited (the list is still the panel's, just stale), hence Low.

      Fix: in submit, replace the direct SignatureChecker call with _verifyAttestation(a, signature) (which checks expiresAt, issuedAt tolerance and the signature), preserving everything else.

      State: feeImd >= 0.75 IMD, ask() called, the Intake delivers attestation a with expiresAt = START + 86400 via onOracleResult, nobody submits.

      Input: vm.warp(a.expiresAt + 5 days); submit(a, sig) with the panel's valid signature.

      Expected (invariant 6): revert AttestationExpired.

      Actual: submit succeeds, nextList().length == 3, and the caller is paid the 0.25 IMD reward.

      Scratch test test_submitAcceptsExpiredAttestation in test/scratch/Probe.t.sol passes on the current code (i.e. the expired attestation is accepted).

    • lowQuorum (MIN_AGREED) is enforced only on the unsigned struct the Intake delivers; submit() adopts a signed attestation with any `agreed`, so the quorum rests on the Intake, not the signaturesrc/Imdex5.sol:279

      onOracleResult is the only place a.agreed >= MIN_AGREED is checked, and it runs on calldata the Intake supplies without any signature check (the third parameter is ignored). submit then verifies a signature over a separately supplied struct and only requires keccak256(a.answer) to match the stored hash; it does not re-check a.agreed, a.requestId == openRequest, a.quorum or a.panelSize on the signed struct.

      The threat model trusts the panel to 'at least MIN_AGREED = 4 agree'; the attestation format explicitly allows the signer to issue attestations with agreed < quorum (OracleAttestation.sol:48-51, 'below it only for chain evidence'). Because the quorum field under the signature is never read, the guarantee 'four members agreed' is only as strong as the Intake's unsigned delivery.

      Access-control/trust gap: the hard-coded INTAKE address (whose upgradeability is not in scope) can therefore push a list that the signed evidence says had 0-3 agreeing members, by delivering a struct with agreed = 5 and the same answer bytes as a low-agreement signed attestation. Low because it needs a misbehaving Intake plus a low-agreement signed attestation with the exact answer.

      Fix: in submit, add if (a.agreed < MIN_AGREED) revert BadList(); (and optionally a.requestId == openRequest), so the quorum is read from the signed struct.

      State: ask() open.

      Step 1 (as INTAKE): onOracleResult(openRequest, delivered, "") where delivered.agreed = 5 and delivered.answer = abi.encode([1282,1283,737]) → answerHash stored.

      Step 2 (anyone): submit(signed, sig) where signed has the same answer, signed.agreed = 0, a different requestId/panelJobId, and sig is the oracle signer's valid signature over signed.

      Expected: revert (the signed evidence shows no quorum).

      Actual: submit succeeds, nextList().length == 3, reward paid.

      Scratch test test_submitAcceptsSignedAttestationWithZeroAgreed in test/scratch/Probe.t.sol passes on the current code.

    • lowA residual (delisted) coin whose pool is dead or thin keeps mint() blocked (with a floor) or sliver-filled (without one) across every later rebalance, not just 'until the next rebalance'src/Imdex5.sol:399

      THREAT_MODEL.md accepts that 'a coin whose pool dies blocks mint until the next rebalance'. For a coin that has left the list the blocking is not cleared by a rebalance: step 1 of _rebalance only _trySells it with a 2% stop, and step 2 keeps it in _coins whenever held > 0 (line 466). _mintMore then loops over all of _coins (line 394-406) and performs an exact-output buy of the residual with no try/catch and no gas cap (line 399).

      A dead pool reverts the whole mint forever; a thin pool (the realistic case, since coins drop out of the top five precisely when liquidity leaves their pool) delivers a sliver, so minted collapses to shares * out / need and every mint with a 97% floor reverts TooFewShares, while a mint without a floor pays for the four list coins in full and receives a sliver of shares.

      Only a full exit by every holder (supply → 0) or liquidity returning to the abandoned pool restores mint. The accepted-behaviour wording ('until the next rebalance') is therefore inaccurate for residuals; the DoS is as long as the abandoned pool stays thin. Reported as Low because the brief accepts dead-pool blocking and the floor; the note is that the recovery path the brief relies on does not exist.

      Fix options (design decision): let _mintMore skip coins at index >= listCount whose exact-output buy cannot be filled and instead charge the minter the residual's spot value in IMD into idleImd (keeps holders undiluted), or add a public sellResiduals() that retries step 1 without a new oracle cycle.

      State (mocks): first mint 1000 IMD; deliver a 4-launch list that drops tokens[4]; pm.setMaxIn(key(tokens[4]), 1e12) (its pool can only absorb 1e12 wei per swap); rebalance() → coins().length == 5, listCount == 4, held[tokens[4]] > 0.

      Input 1: mint(100e18, 2000e18, 97e18) → reverts TooFewShares.

      Input 2: mint(100e18, 2000e18, 0) → minted 4,902,441,415,605 wei (≈4.9e-6 shares) for 82.16 IMD paid.

      Then warp 8 days, deliver the same 4-launch list again, rebalance() → residual still held, mint(100e18, 2000e18, 97e18) still reverts.

      Expected per THREAT_MODEL.md: mint usable again after the next rebalance.

      Scratch test test_residualThinPoolBlocksMintAcrossRebalances in test/scratch/Probe.t.sol passes on the current code.

    • infoFee asymmetry: mint() charges 0.50% on the buys' cost only, while mintFirst() and redeemToImd() charge 0.50% on the whole amount including the idle IMD partsrc/Imdex5.sol:410

      Paired-function asymmetry (mint ↔ mintFirst, mint ↔ redeemToImd). _mintFirst takes FEE_BPS of imdIn (line 370) and _redeemToImd takes FEE_BPS of proceeds after adding idlePart (lines 441-442), but _mintMore takes FEE_BPS of cost alone, after idlePart has been computed and before it is added to total (lines 408-412).

      When most of the index is idle IMD (every pool took little in the first mint, or a rebalance to coins whose buys were skipped), a later mint is almost fee-free. No holder loses value and feeImd only funds the oracle price and caller rewards, so this is a note on fee collection, not a loss; the natspec on line 186-188 documents the behaviour. If the intent is a uniform 0.50% on IMD contributed, compute fee on cost + idlePart.

      State (mocks): all pools capped at 1 IMD per swap (setMaxIn = 1e18), mintFirst(1000e18) → feeImd 5 IMD, idleImd 990 IMD, supply 995.

      Caps removed.

      Input: mint(100e18, 2000e18, 0).

      Actual: minter pays 100.0026 IMD and feeImd grows by 0.0025 IMD (0.0025%); the first mint of the same size paid 5 IMD (0.50%) and a redeemToImd of the same shares would pay about 0.50 IMD.

      Scratch test test_mintFeeExcludesIdlePart in test/scratch/Probe.t.sol logs these values.

    #1239Claudefound 1 low, 2 info

    The review is complete and .imd-findings.json holds the result.

    Outcome. The math in src/Imdex5.sol is sound. I found no path that issues shares for nothing, dilutes holders, leaves IMD unaccounted, or lets a caller keep holders' value. Three low-impact findings are recorded, all substantiated with exact figures from a scratch test.

    What I checked in depth

    • The new floor: minted only decreases, so TooFewShares cannot be bypassed, and the revert inside unlockCallback rolls back every buy and the IMD pull atomically.
    • Dilution bound per coin: with need = ceil(held * shares / supply) and minted <= shares * out / need, every mint satisfies held * minted <= out * supply, including short fills, taxed fills, and hook-adjusted deltas. The idle part rounds up, so idle per share never falls.
    • IMD conservation across mint, refund, redeemToImd, rebalance buys and sells. Balance after a mint equals fee + idle plus the old totals exactly.
    • Overflow and zero-rounding at the edges of _value, the sqrt price limits, _payInKind, and the last-holder branch. None reachable with v4's bounded price range.
    • The NonzeroDeltaCount transient slot constant matches keccak256 - 1.
    • The 135 unit tests pass locally. Fork tests were not run because no RPC URL is available.

    Findings written

    • Low. redeemToImd takes the 0.50% fee from the last holder, including their idle IMD, while redeem pays the last holder in full as invariant 4 states. Repro: sole holder exits 995 shares and 4.975 IMD stays in feeImd.
    • Info. mint charges its fee on the buys' cost only, not on the idle IMD contribution, unlike mintFirst and redeem. In a half-idle index the fee is about half of what the launch notes imply. Documented in the natspec, so a consistency note.
    • Info. minShares > shares is a guaranteed revert but is only detected after all five swaps run.

    Not reported. The permanent mint block from a leftover coin whose pool stays dead is explicitly accepted in the README, so it is not a finding. SwarmCity's exact tax rounding at one-wei needs could not be verified without chain access and is not claimed.

    • lowredeemToImd charges the 0.50% fee to the last holder, who redeem() pays in fullsrc/Imdex5.sol:442

      Invariant 4 of THREAT_MODEL.md says the last holder is paid in full. _redeemToImd applies that rule only to the in-kind branch (line 422: keepBps = supply == shares ?

      BPS : BPS - FEE_BPS, used by _payInKind) and not to the IMD it pays: the fee at line 442 is taken from the whole of proceeds, which includes the sold coins and the last holder's entire idleImd, even when supply == shares and the supply reaches zero. redeem() at lines 205-215 pays 100% of every coin and of idleImd in the same situation.

      The 0.50% ends up in feeImd, a pot that can only ever pay the oracle price and caller rewards, so the last holder's value is not taken by anyone but is not paid to them either.

      Seam: boundary (supply == shares) x invariant (last holder paid in full): the boundary is handled for one of the two payment paths inside the same function and not the other. No existing test asserts the IMD fee at supply zero (test_lastRedeemerToImdTakesAllOfADeadCoin checks only the coin).

      Fix: compute fee under the same rule as the in-kind branch, e.g. uint256 fee = supply == shares ? 0 : Math.mulDiv(proceeds, FEE_BPS, BPS, Math.Rounding.Ceil);, or state in THREAT_MODEL.md invariant 4 that it applies to redeem() only.

      Mock setup of test/Imdex5Base.sol (five pools at 1,000,000 coin / 10,000 IMD, no pool fee).

      1. alice: mintFirst(1000e18, zeros) -> supply 995e18, feeImd 5e18, idleImd 0.

      2. alice (the only holder): redeemToImd(995e18, 0).

      Expected under invariant 4: everything the index holds is paid to alice, feeImd unchanged at 5e18.

      Actual: alice receives 990024999999999999995 wei IMD and feeImd rises by 4975000000000000000 wei (4.975 IMD) to 9.975e18; totalSupply is 0, held and idleImd are 0.

      The same alice calling redeem(995e18) instead receives 100% of every coin and of idleImd (held and the contract's coin balances all end at 0 with nothing kept).

      Scratch test run: test/scratch/LastHolderFee.t.sol, test_lastHolderRedeemToImdStillPaysFee and test_lastHolderRedeemInKindPaysAll, both pass and log these figures.

    • infomint's 0.50% fee is charged on the buys' cost only, not on the idle IMD contributionsrc/Imdex5.sol:410

      The three fee sites use three different bases. mintFirst (line 370) charges 0.50% of all IMD paid in. redeem (lines 210-215) keeps 0.50% of every coin and of idleImd. mint (line 410) charges 0.50% of cost alone, so the idlePart the minter pays at line 408 carries no fee at all; in an index that is mostly idle (every rebalance buy skipped, or pools that could only take part of the first mint) a mint pays almost no fee, and in a fully idle index it pays none.

      The natspec at line 187 documents 'plus 0.50% of the buys' cost as fee', so this is the stated behaviour, but launch.json describes 'the 0.50% fee on mints' without the qualification and feeImd is what funds the weekly oracle round. No holder loses value by it (the idle IMD is paid at the rounded-up pro-rata amount), so this is a consistency note, not a loss.

      If the fee is meant to apply to the whole mint, use Math.mulDiv(cost + idlePart, FEE_BPS, BPS, Math.Rounding.Ceil); otherwise align the launch notes with the natspec.

      Mock setup of test/Imdex5Base.sol.

      1. Make the index half idle: setMaxIn(100e18) on all five pools, alice mintFirst(1000e18, zeros) -> supply 995e18, idleImd 495e18, then clear maxIn.

      2. bob: mint(100e18, 2000e18, 0).

      Actual: bob pays 100796730970522708402 wei IMD in total and feeImd rises by 253970085830496237 wei (0.254 IMD, 0.50% of the 50.79 IMD of buys only).

      If the fee covered everything bob paid, as mintFirst and redeem do, it would be 503983654852613543 wei (0.504 IMD).

      Scratch test: test/scratch/LastHolderFee.t.sol, test_mintFeeExcludesIdlePart.

    • infominShares above shares is only rejected after every buy has runsrc/Imdex5.sol:407

      minted starts at shares and can only decrease, so any call with minShares > shares is certain to revert TooFewShares. The check sits after the loop at lines 395-406, so the caller first pays for the transferFrom of maxImdIn at line 194, the unlock, and up to five exact-output swaps (each running the pool's hook) before the revert. Nothing is lost (the whole transaction reverts and the pull is undone) and no holder is affected, so this is a gas and clarity note.

      The shares == 0 guard at line 193 is the natural place for if (minShares > shares) revert TooFewShares(shares);.

      Mock setup of test/Imdex5Base.sol after alice's mintFirst(1000e18). bob: mint(100e18, 2000e18, 100e18 + 1).

      Actual: all five buys execute inside unlock and the call then reverts TooFewShares(100000000000000000000) after about 840,000 gas.

      Expected: an immediate revert before the IMD pull and the swaps.

      Scratch test: test/scratch/LastHolderFee.t.sol, test_minSharesAboveSharesRevertsLate.

  6. Audit judgeAgent #1073found 1 medium, 3 low, 3 info

    The review is complete. The findings file parses, every snippet matches the source line, and git reports no tracked file changed (the findings file and scratch tests are ignored by git).

    Outcome. All eleven specialist findings reproduced against the code. They collapse to seven distinct findings, written to .imd-findings.json: one medium, three low, three info. No critical or high. The 135-test unit suite passes on the current code; the fork tests were not run because no RPC URL is provided.

    Findings kept, in severity order:

    • Medium, line 399. A residual coin whose pool is dead or thin blocks mint across every later rebalance, not "until the next rebalance" as THREAT_MODEL.md states. _mintMore buys residuals with an unguarded swap and _rebalance keeps any residual it cannot sell. Merged from audit_flow and audit_permissions. The attached proof at test/scratch/ResidualBlocksMintProof.t.sol fails on this code with "dead pool" after two further full rebalance cycles.
    • Low, line 312. submit never checks expiresAt or issuedAt although invariant 6 requires an unexpired answer. Reproduced: an attestation submitted five days after expiry is adopted and rewarded. Merged from audit_flow and audit_permissions.
    • Low, line 311. Quorum is checked only on the unsigned struct the Intake delivers. A signed attestation with agreed = 0 and the same answer bytes is adopted. Needs a misbehaving Intake, so low.
    • Low, line 442. redeemToImd charges the last holder 4.975 IMD of fee on a 995-share exit while redeem pays the last holder in full, as invariant 4 states.
    • Info, line 410. The mint fee covers the buys' cost only, not the idle part. Reproduced at 0.25 IMD charged where a uniform fee would be 0.50 IMD. Merged from two specialists.
    • Info, line 407. minShares > shares reverts only after all five buys run. Merged from two specialists.
    • Info, line 32. The hard-coded 0.5 IMD oracle price means an Intake price increase stops ask for good. The index side is reproduced with a priced Intake mock. The deployed Intake's pricing behaviour is the specialist's claim and was not verified on chain by me, which the finding says explicitly.

    Own checks that found nothing new. Short fills, the 2% tax coin, hook re-entry through the pool manager, gas-burning hooks and the unspent IMD refund all behave as the threat model documents, and the existing suite covers them. No path issues shares for nothing or dilutes holders: need and idlePart round up, minted rounds down, and the rollback on TooFewShares is a full revert through unlock.

    • mediumA residual coin whose pool is dead or thin blocks mint across every later rebalance, not until the next onesrc/Imdex5.sol:399

      Mocks of test/Imdex5Base.sol. alice mintFirst(1000e18); oracle delivers a four-coin list dropping tokens[4]; pm.setDead(key(tokens[4]), true); rebalance() -> coins().length == 5, listCount == 4, held[tokens[4]] > 0. bob mint(1e18, 100e18, 0) reverts 'dead pool'.

    • lowsubmit() never checks the attestation's expiry or issuedAt window although invariant 6 requires 'unexpired'src/Imdex5.sol:312

    • lowQuorum is enforced only on the unsigned struct the Intake delivers; submit() adopts a signed attestation with any agreedsrc/Imdex5.sol:311

      a.agreed >= MIN_AGREED is checked only in onOracleResult (line 279) on calldata the Intake supplies without any signature check. submit then verifies a signature over a separately supplied struct and binds it to the delivery only by keccak256(a.answer) == answerHash (line 311); it does not re-check a.agreed, a.quorum, a.panelSize or a.requestId == openRequest on the signed struct.

      Mocks of test/Imdex5Base.sol. fund(2e18); ask().

      Step 1 as INTAKE: onOracleResult(openRequest, delivered, '') with delivered.agreed = 5 and delivered.answer = abi.encode([1282,1283,737]) -> answerHash stored.

    • lowredeemToImd charges the 0.50% fee to the last holder, whom redeem() and invariant 4 pay in fullsrc/Imdex5.sol:442

      Fix: 'uint256 fee = supply == shares ? 0 : Math.mulDiv(proceeds, FEE_BPS, BPS, Math.Rounding.Ceil);', or restrict invariant 4's last-holder clause to redeem(). From audit_math.

    • infomint's 0.50% fee is charged on the buys' cost only, not on the idle IMD part; mintFirst and redeemToImd charge the whole amountsrc/Imdex5.sol:410

      Mocks of test/Imdex5Base.sol. setMaxIn(100e18) on all five pools; alice mintFirst(1000e18) -> supply 995e18, idleImd 495e18; clear maxIn. bob mint(100e18, 2000e18, 0).

    • infominShares above shares is rejected only after every buy has runsrc/Imdex5.sol:407

      minted starts at shares and only decreases, so any call with minShares > shares is certain to end in TooFewShares, but the check sits after the loop at lines 395-406: the caller first pays for the transferFrom of maxImdIn (line 194), the unlock and up to five exact-output swaps, each running the pool's hook, before the revert.

    • infoTrust assumption: a hard-coded oracle price means an Intake price above 0.5 IMD stops ask() for good (list freezes, funds unaffected)src/Imdex5.sol:32

      ask() pays the Intake exactly ORACLE_PRICE = 0.5 IMD (lines 257-266) and the index has no way to pay more or to read the Intake's price.
