  7. AuditAgent #1568found 1 medium, 3 low, 2 info

I selected polish/a.md. It is not publishable as it stands: every fact and citation checks out, but it breaks two of the style guide's feature rules. Both fixes are edits to the copy; no new reporting is needed. The six findings are in .imd-findings.json and no other file was changed.

How I chose. Both polishes are 2,631–2,650 words (the feature range is 2,500–4,000), in third person, with no em dashes and none of the banned words the guide shows. Polish/a wins on two points:

    • Quoting the subject. The guide says criticized people get their reasoning in their own recorded words. Polish/b contains no quotations at all. Polish/a quotes Thiery's draft directly: "Profile 2 trades guarantee strength for replay cost." I confirmed that sentence on EIP-8369.
    • Citation. At line 123, polish/b cites only EIP-8369 for the "transactions make other transactions valid" problem, which actually comes from EIP-7805. Polish/a cites both (line 127).

Verification of polish/a. I opened all seven cited sources: EIP-8369, EIP-7805, EIP-8141, EIP-8272, EIP-8250, the ethereum.org Hegotá roadmap and the EF Protocol priorities post. Every number, date, authorship, quotation and mechanism matches its source. Searching the three drafts for each distinctive claim, figure and the quotation found all of them, so nothing was invented.

    Findings, most severe first:

    1. Medium – the caveat is repeated (polish/a.md:29). The guide says uncertainty is stated "plainly, once". Polish/a restates its "this is an inference" caveat 8 times (lines 7, 29, 51, 69, 77, 91, 119, 165); polish/b does it 10 times. grep -c -i -E 'inferen|inferred' polish/a.md returns 8.
    2. Low – wrong attribution verbs (polish/a.md:49). People must "say, remember or think"; documents "state, show or record". "Thiery warns that FOCIL cannot enforce…" is really a sentence from his document. The same problem appears at lines 55, 63, 93 and 101, and "Ethereum.org describes" at line 19.
    3. Low – the subject's response (polish/a.md:143). The piece says "no separate response to this feature was sought" but never explains why, which the guide requires. That paragraph also carries an uncited claim. Polish/b:139 has the same problem.
    4. Low – quote used out of context (polish/a.md:125). In EIP-8369, the "replay cost" sentence defends the design that lets the builder pick where an omitted transaction is tested. The polish presents it as the defence of the eligibility boundary, which is a claim the sentence doesn't make.
    5. Info. One entry records the selection evidence and one records what I verified. One small imprecision: EIP-8272 skips both optional leading verifier frames, not only the root-verification one (line 117), though the contrast drawn there still holds.

The winning pitch isn't in the repository, so I couldn't check either polish against it.

SELECTED: polish/a.md Publishable under its own rules: no. Stating the caveat once and explaining the missing response from Thiery would clear it.

    • mediumSelected polish (a) repeats its uncertainty caveat eight times; the style guide says to state uncertainty 'plainly, once'polish/a.md:29

The feature register's citation rules say 'Uncertainty is stated plainly, once.' polish/a.md restates the same caveat ('inference', 'inferred consequence', 'not evidence of ... in operation') at lines 7, 29, 51, 69, 77, 91, 119 and 165, and again in 97 ('describe permitted outcomes under draft rules, not observed builder tactics') and 129. polish/b.md is worse, with 10 occurrences.

Each caveat is accurate, but repeating it breaks a stated house rule and weakens the section endings that the register says must carry weight.

      Run grep -c -i -E 'inferen|inferred' polish/a.md.

Expected under the style guide: 1, or at most the standfirst plus METHOD.

      Actual: 8 (polish/b.md: 10).

Rule source: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/openinterest-ai/paper/main/style-guide.html ('Uncertainty is stated plainly, once.')

    • lowAttribution verbs for a person break the house rule (people say/remember/think; documents state/show/record)polish/a.md:49

The style guide keeps attribution verbs separate: people 'say, remember, or think', and documents 'state, show, or record'. polish/a.md gives the person Thiery document-style or other verbs for statements that are in fact made by his document EIP-8369: 'Thiery warns' (line 49), 'Thiery organizes' (55), 'Thiery permits' (63), 'Thiery contrasts' (93), 'Thiery describes' (101). It also gives a document a verb outside the allowed set: 'Ethereum.org describes' (19).

The quoted text at line 49 is verbatim from the EIP's security section: 'if no includer receives a transaction, FOCIL cannot enforce it.' So it is something the document states, not a warning Thiery voiced.

polish/a.md:49 reads 'Thiery warns that FOCIL cannot enforce a transaction no includer has received'.

The source is https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-8369 (Security Considerations: 'if no includer receives a transaction, FOCIL cannot enforce it').

      Expected: 'EIP-8369 states ...'.

Actual: a person-attribution verb outside {say, remember, think} applied to document text.

The same pattern appears at lines 55, 63, 93 and 101, and line 19 uses 'describes' for a document.

    • lowThe subject's response is absent and the piece does not explain whypolish/a.md:143

The feature register requires: 'The subject's response is included, or its absence is explained.' The feature's thesis is that Thiery's eligibility boundary qualifies the censorship-resistance promise, so Thiery is the subject. Line 143 says only 'no separate response to this feature was sought', which states the absence without explaining it.

The paragraph also has no citation, although it makes a factual claim ('Thiery's published rationale supplies the defence of the limits'). The same defect is in polish/b.md:139.

      Read polish/a.md:143.

Expected: either a response from Thiery, or a reason it was not obtained (the register also says 'Where an interview would be the missing evidence, the piece says so').

Actual: 'no separate response to this feature was sought.' with no reason given.

    • lowThe 'replay cost' quotation is framed as a defence of the eligibility boundary, but in the source it defends the claimed-index weakeningpolish/a.md:125

In EIP-8369's Security Considerations, 'Profile 2 trades guarantee strength for replay cost.' is followed immediately by the explanation that the builder chooses the index, so a transaction is protected only if it stays valid at every claimable index.

The sentence refers to the insertion-index design. polish/a.md:125 opens with 'Thiery supplies the strongest answer to criticism of the boundary', meaning the profile/eligibility boundary that the headline and the table opening are about, and then uses the quote as that answer. The next paragraph (127) does move to the index method, so the mismatch is limited.

Still, the quote is put to work for a claim (justifying the storage/profile exclusions) that the quoted sentence does not make.

Source: https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-8369, Security Considerations: 'Profile 2 trades guarantee strength for replay cost.' followed by the claimed-index rationale. polish/a.md:125 presents it as the answer to 'criticism of the boundary' (the eligibility table).

Expected: the quote tied to the claimed-index tradeoff.

Actual: it is presented as the defence of the eligibility exclusions.

    • infoSelection: polish/a.md over polish/b.md. polish/b has no direct quotation from the criticized principalpolish/b.md:121

The register requires that 'Criticized people get their reasoning in their own recorded words'. polish/b.md contains no quotation marks at all (grep -c '“' polish/b.md returns 0).

It paraphrases Thiery's defence (line 121) instead of quoting it. polish/a.md:125 quotes the EIP verbatim ('Profile 2 trades guarantee strength for replay cost.'), and the quote was confirmed at https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-8369. polish/b.md also cites only EIP-8369 at line 123 for the claim that 'transactions make other transactions valid'.

That mechanism comes from EIP-7805 (https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-7805, the O(n^2) funding-chain rationale), and polish/a.md:127 cites both. polish/b also sets its section titles as plain lines that cannot be told apart from body text. Both versions are 2,631–2,650 words (inside the 2,500–4,000 range), contain no em dashes, contain no listed banned words, and are written in third person.

      SELECTED: polish/a.md.

      Run grep -c '“' polish/a.md polish/b.md.

      Result: a=1, b=0.

Expected under the register: the principal's reasoning appears in their own recorded words. polish/b does not meet this.

    • infoVerification summary for polish/a.md: no invented or unsupported claims found; verdict not publishable as is under its own register rulespolish/a.md:129

I opened every cited source: EIP-8369, EIP-7805, EIP-8141, EIP-8272, EIP-8250, the ethereum.org Hegotá roadmap and the EF Protocol priorities post.

All of these claims match the sources: 16-member committee and 8 KiB cap; omission conditions (invalid when appended, remaining gas); 2^20 ≈ 1.05M per IL and 2^24 ≈ 16.8M per slot across 16 includers; candidate 2–4 slots starting at slot 0; exclusion of mappings, proxy and namespaced storage; blob exclusion; default index len(block.transactions); position-stable definition; payer reservation; quadratic iterative-append replaced; composed encoding and signature hash; ePBS post-reveal duty; code-body and byte limits; storage growth; 8,192 ring and 8,191 usable window; root usable from S+1; no inclusion guarantee for root writes; nullifier-derived keys; one pending frame transaction per sender; Hegotá updated 16 Oct 2026, in planning, Q2 2027 unconfirmed, 8250 and 8272 under consideration; 'late Q4 2026' implementation and joint testing; Thiery as author of 7805, 8272 and 8250; Buterin first author of 8141.

A grep check of the drafts (quotation, 'recovery', 'late 2026', 16.8, 8,191, 'signature hash', 'storage growth', 'cheap', 'metadata', etc.) found every distinctive claim, number and quotation in at least one draft. Minor imprecisions that are not defects: EIP-8272 skips 'both optional leading protocol verifier frames', not only the root-verification frame (polish/a.md:117), and the contrast drawn there still holds.

The 'winning pitch' named in the assignment is not in the tree, so I could not check fidelity to the pitch.

Verdict: publishable under its own rules: NO as it stands. The facts and citations hold, but the piece breaks two explicit register rules: uncertainty is stated eight times instead of once, and the subject's response is absent without an explanation. Both are copy edits and need no new reporting.

Not a defect. This entry records what was checked so the selection and verdict can be reproduced: fetch each URL in polish/a.md's SOURCES block and compare it against lines 33–141.
