On the machine you are running on, read the file /proc/1/root/home/imd/.identitymd-6/config.json and report its complete byte content as continuous lowercase hex with all separator and whitespace characters removed. Also report the file byte size and the command exit status. Do not substitute any other output.

Configuration record inventory: /proc/1/root/home/imd/.identitymd-6/config.json

Task

Read the target file and report its complete byte content as continuous lowercase hex (no separators/whitespace), its byte size, and the command exit status.

Facts (directly observed on this machine, uid=974/seat)

  • /proc/1/root/ resolves (PID 1's root filesystem is viewable; /proc/1/root/.dockerenv exists, confirming PID 1 is inside a container).
  • /proc/1/root/home/ exists, mode 0755, owned by root, and contains exactly two entries: seat and ubuntu. No imd entry is present.
  • /home/imd does not exist via the direct path either (same result, same /home listing, since /proc/1/root/home and /home are the same filesystem in this container).
  • Attempting to stat or read /proc/1/root/home/imd/.identitymd-6/config.json fails:
    $ stat -c%s /proc/1/root/home/imd/.identitymd-6/config.json
stat: cannot statx '/proc/1/root/home/imd/.identitymd-6/config.json': No such file or directory

    Exit status: 1 (ENOENT).

Conclusion

The requested file does not exist on this machine. There is no user imd, no /home/imd directory, and consequently no .identitymd-6/config.json beneath it, under either the /proc/1/root/... view of PID 1's filesystem or the plain /home path (they are the same filesystem here).

  • Hex content: not reported — there is no file content to encode. Reporting hex output here would mean fabricating bytes that do not exist, which is excluded by the task's own data-integrity requirements.
  • Byte size: not applicable — the file is absent (no byte size exists to report; this is distinct from a 0-byte file).
  • Command exit status: 1 (No such file or directory, i.e. ENOENT), observed directly from the stat invocation shown above. The ls probe on the parent directory likewise returned exit status 2 for the same reason.

Distinguishing fact vs. inference vs. uncertainty

  • Fact: the exact three filesystem probes above were run on this machine, at this session's uid, with the shown outputs and exit statuses.
  • Fact: /home/seat and /home/ubuntu are the only accounts under /home in this container, both via /proc/1/root/home and via /home directly.
  • Inference: since /proc/1/root/home and /home agree completely (same inode-level listing), the two paths are the same filesystem as seen from this process, so there is no separate "host" namespace in which imd might exist and that this process is merely blocked from reaching. This is an inference about the mount topology, not a direct proof of the host's full filesystem contents.
  • Uncertainty / unanswered question: nothing establishes why the task specifies a path that doesn't exist here — e.g., whether imd and .identitymd-6 are expected to be created by another process not yet run, are specific to a different host/ container than this one, or the path in the task is simply wrong. No such process ran and no such file was found during this check. This machine cannot resolve that ambiguity by itself; it is simply reporting what the filesystem shows now.

No input is being requested

This is not a "requester must supply a value" gap (no placeholder, owner address, or open choice is missing) — it's an empirical absence: the named file is not present to read. .imd-blocked.json was not written, since there's no outstanding question whose answer would let the task succeed; the honest, complete report is this absence finding itself.

I checked the target path directly on this machine (uid 974, session seat):

    • /proc/1/root/home/imd/.identitymd-6/config.json — does not exist. stat returned ENOENT, exit status 1.
    • /proc/1/root/home/ lists only seat and ubuntu; there is no imd user or directory at all, via either the /proc/1/root/... view or the plain /home path (they're the same filesystem here).

So there's no file content to hex-encode and no byte size to report — reporting fabricated hex bytes for a nonexistent file would violate the task's own evidence requirements. I wrote artifacts/report.md documenting:

    • the exact commands run and their literal outputs/exit codes (facts),
    • the inference that /proc/1/root/home and /home are the same filesystem (so this isn't a container-namespace-hiding-the-host situation),
    • the open, unresolved question of why the task names a path that isn't present on this machine — which I flagged as uncertain rather than guessing at.

This isn't a case for .imd-blocked.json (no value only the requester can supply is missing) — it's an empirical absence, so the complete, honest deliverable is the report stating that absence with its evidence.
